Villánykövesd (German:Gowisch) is a wine-village inBaranya county,Hungary, established 1730 by German settlers.Until the end ofWorld War II, the inhabitants were allRoman CatholicDanube Swabians (Schwowe), also called locally asStifulder, because the majority of their ancestors had arrived in the 17th and 18th centuries fromFulda (district).[1] Most of the former German settlers were expelled toAllied-occupied Germany andAllied-occupied Austria in 1945–1948, consequent to thePotsdam Agreement.[2]
