Modern recreations of Viking Age ships
TheViking at theWorld's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893 Viking ship replicas are one of the more common types ofship replica .Viking , the first Viking ship replica, was built by theRødsverven shipyard inSandefjord, Norway . In 1893 it sailed across theAtlantic Ocean toChicago in theUnited States for theWorld's Columbian Exposition . Formerly located inLincoln Park ,Chicago, Illinois , theViking is currently undergoing conservation inGeneva, Illinois ,United States .[ 1]
There are a considerable number of modern reconstructions ofViking Age ships in service aroundNorthern Europe andNorth America . TheViking Ship Museum inRoskilde , Denmark, has been particularly prolific in building accurate reconstructions of archaeological finds in its collection.
