Victor Loche (1806–1863) was a French soldier andnaturalist.
In 1856–1857, he participated in an expedition to theAlgerian part of theSahara, and described themammals and birds of Algeria in the bookCatalogue des mammifères et des oiseaux published in 1858.[1]He first described thesand catFelis margarita from a specimen found in the area ofNégonça in the Sahara, and proposed to name the cat in recognition ofJean Auguste Margueritte who headed the expedition.[2]
