TheVia Brixiana, orVia Cremonensis,[1][2] was aRoman road created during theRoman-Gallic wars in theRoman province ofCisalpine Gaul. It connectedCremona toBrescia, from which Roman roads passed and then branched out towards the entireNorthern Italy.
TheVia Brixiana started in Cremona, an importantinland port long thePo and ended in Brixia (Brescia),[3] traversed byVia Gallica, connecting the city to the other roman consular roads. Due toCremona fedelissima et nobilissima colonia de Romani (1585), the road, leftCremona (Cremona), intersectingVia Postumia,[4]Via Regina, and traversed theBassa Cremonese, continuing throughPlaxanum (Pozzaglio ed Uniti),Brazzuoli, aPlaxanum'sfrazione, andRubeccum (Robecco d'Oglio). Then, the road traversed theOllius (Oglio) inPontis Vicus (Pontevico) by a bridge who gave the name to the town,[2] traversingBassa Bresciana throughBassianum (Bassano Bresciano),Minervium (Manerbio),Balneolum (Bagnolo Mella) andBrixia (Brescia).[5]
