Vergato (Medial Mountain Bolognese:Vargà orVarghè) is acomune (municipality) in theMetropolitan City of Bologna in theItalian regionEmilia-Romagna, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) southwest ofBologna.

Vergato borders the following municipalities:Castel d'Aiano,Gaggio Montano,Grizzana Morandi,Marzabotto,Valsamoggia,Zocca.

The town was almost entirely destroyed during theGothic Line phase of theItalian Campaign inWorld War II. It is connected to Bologna by thePorrettana railway and by the Porrettana State Road.
