
Veliki Bukovec is a castle located in themunicipality of the same name withinVaraždin County,Croatia. The castle was built between 1745 and 1755 and has historically belonged to theHouse of Drašković.[1][2]
During the course ofWorld War II, castle owners Pavao and Eliza Drašković moved toAustria.[3] The castle was nationalized in 1945 with the arrival of a communist regime inYugoslavia. Karlo Drašković returned (together with his son Nikola) to the newly independentCroatia in the 1990s from his previous home inGüssing and had the castle ownership returned to him.[3]
