Vejle Municipality (Danish:Vejle Kommune) is akommune in theRegion of Southern Denmark on theJutland peninsula in southeastDenmark. The municipality covers an area of 1,058.43 km2 (408.66 sq mi) (2013),[2] and has a population of 121,696 (1. January 2024). Its mayor is Jens Ejner Christensen, a member of the agrarianliberalpartyVenstre. Vejle Municipality's offices are located in its largest population center, the city ofVejle.
In its current configuration, Vejle Municipality was formed under theMunicipal Reform of 2007 (Kommunalreformen) by merging the previously existingVejle Municipality with the neighboring municipalities ofBørkop,Egtved,Give (except for properties in two parishes Lindeballe and Ringive occupied byBillund Airport, which became part ofBillund Municipality),Jelling, as well as theparish of Grejs, which formerly belonged to the municipality ofTørring-Uldum.
The municipality is part ofTriangle Region and of theEast Jutland metropolitan area, which had a total population of 1.378 million in 2016.[3][4]
The central administration of the Region of Southern Denmark is in Vejle, located in the formerVejle County offices at Damhaven 12.
