Medication for conditions affecting blood vessels
Avasoprotective is a medication which acts to alleviate or prevent conditions or diseases which affect theblood vessels. The term is used in theWorld Health Organization'sAnatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System to encompass therapeutic agents used in the treatment ofhemorrhoids orvaricose veins.[1] The term may also be used to describe drugs which lower the risk of developinghypercholesterolemia orhypertension.[2]
Examples of vasoprotectives include1-methylnicotinamide,[3]estrogen,[4]tribenoside,[5] andvalsartan.[6]More specifically, arterial vasoprotectors are called angioprotectors.
