Varanodon is an extinct genus ofamniotes from the familyVaranopidae. It has been found in theChickasha Formation ofOklahoma, which dates to theRoadian stage of theMiddle Permian.[1] The largest varanopid known at the time of its description, with a skull length of 17.5 centimetres (6.9 in),[2] it was closely related to and lived alongside its much larger relativeWatongia.[3] The two may represent growth stages of a single animal.[4]
