The book represents the oldest preserved text inCyrillic from the territory of today's Croatia.[1] It contains theActs of the Apostles and theNew Testament epistles, and is kept today in theMuseum of Serbian Orthodox Church inBelgrade,Serbia.[1] TheVaraždin Apostol was made by three transcribers of CountessKantakuzina Katarina Branković, daughter of the Serbian despotĐurađ Branković and his wifeIrene Kantakouzene, and the wife ofUlrich II, Count of Celje.[1] The text is written in theResava orthography (Manasija monastery) with elements of theRaška orthography and theMount Athos redaction, too.[2] The language is the Serbian dialect ofOld Church Slavonic.[3] On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of theApostol, theSerbian Orthodox Church issued a limited edition of 300 copies.[2] As a gift from theMetropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana, copies went to, among others,Serbian Patriarch Pavle, Croatian presidentStjepan Mesić, theLepavina Monastery, and theCelje city archive.[3][4][5]
