Amlodipine/valsartan, sold under the brand nameExforge among others, is ablood pressure loweringcombination drug. It containsamlodipine, as the besilate, adihydropyridine-typecalcium channel blocker, andvalsartan, anangiotensin II receptor antagonist.[6] This combination is usually well tolerated and effective for the reduction of blood pressure.[7]

The combination was approved for medical use in the European Union in January 2007,[3] and in the United States in June 2007.[8]

The combination is also available withhydrochlorothiazide.[9][10] It was approved for medical use in the United States in April 2009,[11] and in the European Union in November 2009.[12][13][14] The combination of amlodipine/valsartan with hydrochlorothiazide is on theWorld Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.[15]
