Valentine Louis Telegdi (Hungarian :Telegdi Bálint ; 11 January 1922 – April 8, 2006) was aHungarian -Americanphysicist .[ 1] [ 2] [ 3] [ 4] [ 5] [ 6] [ 7] [ 8] Enrico Fermi Distinguished Service Professor of Physics at theUniversity of Chicago [ 9] ETH Zürich .
After retiring from ETH he divided his time betweenCERN and theCalifornia Institute of Technology . Telegdi chaired CERN's scientific policy committee from 1981 to 1983.[ 10] International Union of Pure and Applied Physics , from 1983 to 1986.[ 11]
According toGyörgy Marx he was one ofThe Martians .[ 12]
In 1991 he shared theWolf Prize in Physics withMaurice Goldhaber .[ 13] Foreign Member of the Royal Society (ForMemRS) in 2003 .[ 1] [ 14]
