TheVale of Towy Railway (VoTR) was a Welshrailway that provided an 11.25 mile-long extension of theLlanelly Railway fromLlandeilo toLlandovery. It was incorporated byact of Parliament (UK), theVale of Towy Railway Act 1854 (17 & 18 Vict. c. cl), of 10 July 1854 and opened on 1 April 1858.[1][clarification needed]

Overview

The VoTR was astandard gauge route that provided an alternative to theGreat Western Railway and Llandovery became a potential endpoint for other rail companies inNorth Wales and theWest of England.

Stations

Intermediate stations were built at (from north to south)Llanwrda,Llangadog,Glanrhyd Halt (closed) andTalley Road Halt (closed).

The route today

The route remains in use as part of theHeart of Wales Line.
