Vaila Marie Barsley (born 15 September 1987) is a Scottishfootball defender.

Club career

Barsley playedcollege soccer forSt. John's Red Storm while attendingSt. John's University on a five-year accountancy degree. After graduating she began working forErnst & Young inNew York City, but negotiated a leave of absence when Swedish clubEskilstuna United offered her aprofessional soccer contract in 2013.[1] Barsley's nine goals from defence helped Eskilstuna winpromotion to theDamallsvenskan in her first season.[2] In the2015 Damallsvenskan season, Eskilstuna finished runners-up toFC Rosengård and Barsley was awarded a new two-year contract.[3]

In March 2022 shetransferred to Damallsvenskan newcomersIF Brommapojkarna, following nine seasons with Eskilstuna.[4]

International career

Barsley's mother is fromShetland, which qualifies her to play forScotland.[5] She made her full international debut on 11 April 2017, in a 5–0 defeat againstBelgium.[6]

Personal life

In December 2018 shemarried her former Eskilstuna team-mateAnnica Svensson.[7]
