Víctor Rodríguez Romero (born 23 July 1989) is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played as awinger.
Born inBarberà del Vallès,Barcelona,Catalonia, Rodríguez played four years withFC Barcelona as a youth, sharing teams with futureValencia CF, Barcelona andSpain starJordi Alba. Both were released for being deemed too small.[2]
Rodríguez then signed for neighboursCF Badalona in theSegunda División B, going on to spend three full seasons at that level with the club. In 2012 he joinedReal Zaragoza ofLa Liga, but initially as a member of thereserve team also in the third tier.[3][4] He was introduced in the main squad setup by managerManolo Jiménez shortly after, however,[5] making his league debut on 25 August in a 2–1 away win againstRCD Espanyol.[6]
On 21 October 2012, in another 2–1 away victory, now overGranada CF, Rodríguez scored once and also provided theassist inHélder Postiga's opener.[7] As he had played in the number of first-team games required, he was immediately handed a professional contract, running until June 2015.[8]
Rodríguez returned to the top flight on 7 August 2014, after agreeing to a three-year deal atElche CF.[9] On 2 August of the following year, he was loaned toGetafe CF of the same league for one year.[10]
On 10 June 2016, after Getafe'srelegation, Rodríguez signed a four-year contract withSporting de Gijón also in the top tier.[11] He met the same fate at the end ofthe season, then agreed to terminate his contract in order to join aMajor League Soccer team,[12] which turned out to beSeattle Sounders FC.[13]
On 10 November 2019, Rodríguez was named theMVP of theMLS Cup final, scoring the Sounders' second goal in a 3–1 home win overToronto FC.[14] The following 30 January, he returned to his former club Elche.[15]
Rodríguez signed withOdisha FC in theIndian Super League in July 2022.[16] He scored his first league goal on 17 February 2023, in the 3–1 away defeat ofNorthEast United FC.[17] He also wonthat year'sSuper Cup with the side.[18]
On 20 July 2023, Rodríguez joinedFC Goa on a one-year deal.[19] In August 2024, he announced his retirement aged 35.[20]
Rodríguez featured for theCatalonia unofficial team.[21]
