Vänge is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[3] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Vänge District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]
Vänge is the name of the socken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding themedievalVänge Church,[5] sometimes referred to asVänge kyrkby. Vänge is situated in the central part of Gotland.[6]
As of 2019[update], Vänge Church belongs to Vängeparish in Romaklosterspastorat, along with the churches inButtle,Guldrupe,Sjonhem,Viklau andHalla.[7][8]
One of theasteroids in theasteroid belt,10794 Vänge, isnamed after this place.[9]
With the establishing of railways on Gotland in 1878, one of the stations resulted in the settlementBjärges in Vänge. Other settlements are Bringes andNickarve.[10]
With severalequestrian establishments, Vänge is horse country. The Western Riders Arena is used forwestern riding androdeo events. A number of the members of the Gotland Western Riders also perform asjousting knights in the Tournamentum team at the annualMedieval Week on Gotland and national jousting tournaments.[11][12][13]
