Utiaritichthys is a genus ofserrasalmid fish found in theAmazon andOrinoco basins in tropicalSouth America.[1][2] The adults are typically found in rapidly flowing water where they feed on aquatic plants in the familyPodostemaceae and filamentous algae.[3] They reach up to 32.2 cm (1.06 ft) instandard length.[1]
Themonophyly andtaxonomic position of the genus is not fully resolved. The only clear difference fromMyloplus is the comparatively longer body ofUtiaritichthys.[3]
