Uszka,ushka (Polish:[ˈuʂka]ⓘ) orvushka (Ukrainian:вушка[ˈwuʃkɐ];Belarusian:вушкі[ˈvuʂkʲi];lit. 'little ears') are smalldumplings[1] (a very small and twisted version ofpierogi) usually filled with flavourful wild forestmushrooms and/or minced meat. They are usually served withborscht, though they can be eaten simply with melted butter and herbs (usuallychives) sprinkled over. When vegetarian (filled only with mushrooms or onion) they are a part of traditionalChristmas Eve dishes inPoland,[1]Belarus,[2] andUkraine,[citation needed] and are either added to the soup or eaten as a side dish.[3]
