Tito-Stalin split

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the articleTito-Stalin split has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I noticed that the article uses an en dash rather than a hyphen in every instance of "Tito-Stalin". En dashes are generally used for a range of dates, times or numbers. You might want to consider whether these instances should be changed.Congratulations on bringing the article to GA status.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk)14:16, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your time and effort. I had a look at the changes you made last night and I am confident that the article is greatly improved now. I'll have a look at the en dash issue, but I'm quite certain the matter will be discussed at the ACR soon.--Tomobe03 (talk)14:20, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Paškal Buconjić

Greetings there,

I noticed that you included the article in the WikiProject Croatia. Should we do the same for similar articles, such as:Alojzije Mišić,Petar Čule,Ratko Perić? I intend to make all these articles GA. I would appreciate any help from your project and am aware of the connection that exists between the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Sometimes it's really hard to distinguish them into separate categories since there's much interdependence between the two (Perić headed the Saint Jerome college in Rome, which regards itself as a Croatian college; Buconjić maintained close relations with Zagreb and so forth). --Governor Sheng (talk)18:44, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi there. Yes, I added the WPCro template as the scope of theWP:CRO includes articles related to Croatia or Croats - regardless where they live(d). It is quite alright to have one article tagged with multiple WikiProjects since their interests are likely to overlap. I would suggest you to add other articles as well if they meet this requirement too. A potential benefit for the article from such inclusion is that this might lead to attention from other contributors/reviewers. Of course, this applies to all relevant wiki projects, depending on how their scope is defined. Cheers --Tomobe03 (talk)22:23, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Many of my improvements were done as requested, with a focus on improving the quality of prose and grammar. While I corrected any typos that I may have made in the editing process, it would be worth taking another look to make sure that the article is written in accordance with British English, as I and my spellcheck are American, and to double-check all dates mentioned, as I have a learning disability known asdyscalculia that sometimes causes me to switch numbers around. Best of luck with the nomination process!Kncny11 (talk)17:21, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Missing cites in1990 Croatian parliamentary election

The article cites "Hayden 2011" and "Ramet 2003" but no such sources are listed in the bibliography. Can you please add? Or are these typos in years? Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and pasteimportScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js');// Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] toyour common.js page. Thanks,Renata (talk)04:41, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Renata3 thanks for pointing these out. Yes, they appear to be typos. I checked the Ramet reference, and it is found in Ramet's Three Yugoslavias (2006) on the indicated page. Hayden was likewise a typo, but I also changed the ref in the bibliography section a bit. Namely, the Google books seems to indicate that the book was published in 2012, but the book itself (I have access to a copy) says 2013, and the two cites check out fine - so I changed it to 2013. Cheers.--Tomobe03 (talk)07:32, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

1 HGZ in afterwar period

Hello,

I would like to discuss your removal of Afterwar paragraph in article1st Croatian Guards Corps, for saying that the source is unreliable. I would like to point out that I disagree with your statement that the source is unreliable, since it contains direct words of a man (Anri Targuš) who was a member of this unit, and took part in the events and can therefore give a first hand account of what was happening. I think that it is, therefore, unrightfully removed. It also gives an insight to lesser known episode of this unit and it is therefore a worthy contribution to the overall article.

Franjo Tahy (talk)20:16, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Franjo Tahy, the source is reliable if it meetsWP:RS policy which means, among other things, that it is a published source requiring "editorial oversight". Portals such as braniteljski.hr may well report accurately, but portals (usually) fail the oversight criterion. I don't mean to belittle the source of information - it just fails WP:RS. Such interviews are quite useful for further research, especially as first-hand accounts.
As indicated in the edit summary removing the information - the information that the 1.HGZ continued to discharge its duty of protecting the President of Croatia adds nothing to the existing information in the article. If the addition were detailing an otherwise unreported combat, this would be quite different. Regards--Tomobe03 (talk)21:20, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

There is too much for me to list, but unless the text is put into correct English the article will be failed. One solution to the problem is to ask for the article to be copy edited atWikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests—you wait about 3 weeks before it gets done.

Just dropping by to sayvery nice job on the article. Back in the day I did some work on it, but it was basically just plugging the holes, hardly anything more than that. Well, the image caption should explain what's shown, and saying "Random New Proper Name" is shown, in an article not about that, just leads the reader to think "but what is Random New Proper Name?" :) Perhaps "Yugoslav newspaper Telegram"? {{PD-Yugoslavia}} question

I saw your messages onWT:CRO; you seem to be knowledgeable about public domain in Croatia. I'm currently working on expanding the1964 Zagreb flood article and putting up some pictures. There's a PDF of the day's newspapershere from which I've extracted photos (example). Can you doublecheck that this is PD? Would it somehow be possible to use the map providedhere (fromthis webpage)? I've drafted a fairly long article offline and I'm hoping I can put some photos and illustrations to liven it up ;)DaßWölf15:40, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

HiDaß Wölf. Any photograph published in Yugoslavia before 1 January 1966 became public domain on 1 January 1991. This does not mean that photographs published in Yugoslavia on or after 1 January 1966 are not PD. For example, photographs published in (Socialist Republic of) Croatia on or after 1 January 1966 but before 1 January 1971 became public domain on 1 January 1996 under applicable Croatian law. Regardless of any subsequent expiry of copyrights under Croatian law (to stick with that example) later photos are not PD for the purposes of Wikimedia Commons/Wikipedia because everything still copyrighted on that day received an extension of copyright in the US (therefore being relevant for the Wikimedia Commons) until expiry of 95 years following publication (i.e. photo published in Croatia on 1 January 1971 will only become PD for Wikimedia Commons on 1 January 2067). The extension of the copyright protection did not apply if the particular work was not copyrighted on 1 January 1971. In short, any photos published in Yugoslav/Croatian papers before 1 January 1971 are ok to use - just make sure you indicate the source and publication date in the Commons, and add two approppriate PD notices:{{PD-Yugoslavia}} (for photos published before 1 January 1966) or{{PD-Croatia}} (for photos published in 1966-1970 period) and{{PD-US-1996}}.
As regards the map, I don't think it would be PD and could not be used as such in the article. However, it can be used as a source (if deemed reliable per WP:RS - did not check myself). If the map source is reliable, I'd suggest you to seek help regarding creation of a map atWikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop.
Thank you for taking time and effort to contribute to Wikipedia. I'm looking forward to reading the 1964 flood article as soon as I get the chance. I hope the above is helpful to you and please ping me if I can assist with anything. Cheers--Tomobe03 (talk)16:08, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
And a clarification, when I typed "published in Yugoslav/Croatian papers" I should have said just "published in Yugoslavia/Croatia" - applies to newspapers, journals, books and all other forms of lawful publication.--Tomobe03 (talk)16:14, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the detailed reply! In that case I'm also going to upload the photos credited to Zagrebačka panorama's special flood issue. According tothe city library, it was published in November 1964.This review states the magazine was published by City of Zagreb's People's Council (Narodni odbor) and intended for a wide audience. Sadly I don't really know much more about it -- I was planning to take a look at it in the library before I finished the article, and hopefully dig up more material about the flood, but the new covid wave snuck up on me.DaßWölf14:38, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
No problem. Hope everything turns out fine covid-wise. If that library happens to be in Zagreb, I would be interested if you could leaf through a specific book to check if any Croatian Spring-related photographs were published there in 1970 - also making them PD ;) --Tomobe03 (talk)15:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Yugoslavism

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the articleYugoslavism has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I left a "clarification needed" tag in the Illyrian contribution to linguistic unity section because one sentence is incomplete. I suspect the correct wording should be "language creates nations", but I'm not certain.

I notice that a non-registered editor changed "Bulgars" to "Bulgarians" in theBackground section. Again, I am not sure if this is correct.

Best of luck with the GAR when you get to it. You've clearly done a massive amount of work on the article to improve it.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk)15:24, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Twofingered Typist thank you very much for copyediting the article. I took a quick look at the changes and nothing appears to be problematic. The IP editor was correct to change Bulgars to Bulgarians. I rephrased the bit where you added te clarification needed tag (around Starčević). Could you please take another look at that bit to see if it's any clearer now? Cheers--Tomobe03 (talk)10:31, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Pero Pirker

Hi, I've finally added my text about1964 Zagreb flood and a short bio ofPero Pirker. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out much about Pirker's role in the Croatian Spring online and I don't know what the authoritative sources are. Since you've nominatedCroatian Spring for FAC, I was hoping if you knew more or could fact-check the existing info in that section of his article. I'll gladly share the DYK credit :)

P.S. Unfortunately I never got around to checking that source I mentioned the last time. I was going to visit the Starčevićev trg library and check your book while I'm at it when the covid cases thinned out a bit, but it doesn't seem like that's about to happen any time soon, so I just published what I've got.DaßWölf03:31, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Croatian Spring on OTD

Hi, and thanks for addingCroatian Spring toWikipedia:Selected anniversaries/December 1. There's only one problem, which is that the facts described in the blurb do not seem to actually be in the article. I don't see where it says that the purges began on the 1st. "On 1 December, Tito convened a joint meeting of the leaders of the SKJ and the SKH at the Karađorđevo hunting ground in Vojvodina," but it seems that the part that says, "tens of thousands were expelled from the SKH" didn't happen until after 11 December. Also, the infobox says that the Croatian Spring ended on 1 December, but it's not clear in the article how the movement ended on that day. So despite the GA promotion, I think this needs a little bit of work before we can feature it on OTD. Thanks.howcheng{chat}08:59, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Croatian Spring scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that theCroatian Spring article has been scheduled as atoday's featured article for January 11, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so atWikipedia:Today's featured article/January 11, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

We suggest that you watchlistWikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks!Jimfbleak -talk to me?14:46, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article "about a period in history of Yugoslavia and Croatia marked by a peak in a wider and longer-lasting conflict between centralisation and decentralisation of Yugoslavia. The period saw a rise in Croatian national sentiment and nationalist forces framing their objectives around economic issues of (de)centralisation. At the same time, those advocating decentralisation embraced (to a degree) support from the nationalists. Actions of the leadership of the Socialist Republic of Croatia drew response from Croatian Serbs and caused ethnic tensions. The period ended when the Croatian leadership was removed from power following an intervention by Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito. Croatian Spring and associated events had a significant impact on the final years of Yugoslavia."! --Gerda Arendt (talk)06:35, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Vandalisation

Unaprijed hvala. --Inoslav Bešker (talk)19:05, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure. Seeding red links in hatnotes is not accepted practice, cf.WP:REDHAT. --Joy [shallot] (talk)12:27, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to try to establish a continuity over so many decades and different political systems inbetween. See if you can have a general summary article about the old counties, or just make stubs if they have any potential. --Joy [shallot] (talk)13:01, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

Oh, I just realized you saidlatter in reference to that. The words were transposed, that threw me off. Yeah, I guess those two short periods can start of as a background section of that article. It's somewhat more appropriate since the context is the same empire. --Joy [shallot] (talk)17:32, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

Operation Flash picture

Hello,

Can I usethis non-free picture of Croatian Army in Operation Flash which you uploaded on Wikipedia for the articleMilitary history of Croatia?

I am very surprised to see that we have very few pictures of Croatian Army in Croatian War of Independence on Commons in comparrison with all the other Croatian wars in history, despite the fact that this conflict is relatively recent.

Franjo Tahy (talk)17:24, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi! I'm afraid fair-use rationale would not cover it, thought I'm not 100% sure on this. Generally, fair-use means a low-res, small image may be used to illustrate the article dealing specifically with the topic shown, i.e. only one article.
You are right, there are sadly few PD images from a relatively recent war - while there are plenty high quality images available to the HMDCDR and other publicly funded bodies barred from use by restrictive licensing. I tried arguing with one custodian of a photo library about the issue of over-restrictive licensing (unrelated to the war photos) only to be rebuffed with the argument that "others would use the photos then".--Tomobe03 (talk)23:08, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Yugoslav!

Hi!

You wrote several excellent articles on Yugoslav-related subjects, especially the6th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia. I also presume you are from that geographic area. I've created (or totally revised) on the Central Committee terms of the League of Communists, such asCentral Committee of the 6th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia. I am trying to - presently - to create an article about theCentral Council of the 1st Congress of the Communist Party of Yugoslaviahere.

The reason why I contacted you is that you created theSocial Democratic Party of Bosnia–Herzegovina (1909). I am presuming then that you probably have an overview of who attended the KPJ's founding congress or were elected to its central bodies.

If you could help, I would appreciate it. If not, keep up the excellent work!TheUzbek (talk)10:24, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words. The best thing I can offer you is Koprivica-Oštrić article on the 1st Congress available online in Croatian (with English summary) here[1] for free. I trust you can use machine translation tools on the text if necessary. Cheers --Tomobe03 (talk)21:10, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

Requested GOCE copy edit of Treaty of Rapallo (1920)

Hello, Tomobe03. This is a courtesy notice that thecopy edit you requested forTreaty of Rapallo (1920) at theGuild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. Allfeedback welcome!Dhtwiki (talk)23:48, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much for taking time to improve this article's prose. I'll review the changes and check back with you if I have any questions afterwards. Cheers--Tomobe03 (talk)23:53, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
I was going to mention that "Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes" gets repeated too often, but I abandoned my mental attempts at a short form, say "Serbia", for fear of its being wrong for some reason, such as slighting the other ethnicities or glossing over its monarchical nature.Dhtwiki (talk)03:51, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
A commonly used solution here on wiki is "Kingdom SCS" or "KSCS". Shortening to "Serbia" is incorrect - that's a different country. The problem of impractical name was present in the country at the time also and it was more or less commonly referred to as "Yugoslavia" until it was formally renamed the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1929 - a name proposed for the country back in late 1918 (by the Yugoslav Committee representatives), but avoided at insistence of the Kingdom of Serbia as a means to keep the name of Serbia in the name of the new country. How about having at the first occurrence of the name in the body text "Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (KSCS)" and using the acronym later on?--Tomobe03 (talk)10:14, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi Tomobe03, I've now finished my c/e. Most of the article was straightforward but I rewrote some of the text, particularly the second paragraph of the lede, which i found had some repetitious material, so you might like to check my work in case I have introduced any inaccuracies. I don't think I did though. Cheers,Baffle☿gab00:19, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank youBaffle gab1978 for your time and effort. The article prose reads much better now. There's just one thing that seems odd to me, hyphenation in the following segment seems inconsistent and I'm wondering what is missing or extra:
...exchange would be at par, but that was interpreted as meaning krone-at-par for krone and dinar at-par for dinar.
Cheers--Tomobe03 (talk)09:25, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out, I think I made a mistake with "krone-at-par", which I'll go back and fix. I wanted to tie "at-par" to avoid a difficult-to-follow sentence. I can't think of a better way to phrase that sentence though. Cheers,Baffle☿gab19:24, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

re: wikidata

Best wishes likewise :)

The way this is fixed is to go on either of those pages on Wikipedia, click on the edit button in the language area, and then search for the other one.

So just now I clicked that on the English one, entered "sr" so it brings up the Serbian one, chose that, and then below entered "Jadranska straža", which then autocompleted to the title over there which is in Cyrillic. After that there's a confirmation, and voila.

There can be a complex situation where e.g. two articles' wikidata are identified differently, for example list vs. disambiguation page or similar, which requires further intervention, but connecting normal articles is usually straightforward. --Joy (talk)13:11, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

12th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia

Hi!

I've just gone out of my way to expand the LCY 12th Congress article, and I know you're a prolific creator and editor who has created a ton of very good articles, including the6th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia article. I am not completely finished, but I was hoping that if you have any sources or information on the 12th LCY Congress, you would spare some time to take a quick glance.

I am planning to turn all the red links on theTemplate:League of Communists of Yugoslavia green (at the very minimum, everything on the "Central Organisation" bar) blue, and I have been working on creating and expanding the congress articles.TheUzbek (talk)12:51, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. I don't have much on the 12th Congress specifically, but there are mentions of some of its aspects here[2] and here[3]. The originals are in Croatian, but I expect Google Translate to be capable of producing usable machine translations. Cheers and best of luck in 2025!

Associated WikiProjects within{{WikiProject Yugoslavia}}

Hello Tomobe03! Regarding the change of mine you've reverted onTalk:Tito–Šubašić Agreements, the 'Associated task forces' of{{WikiProject Yugoslavia}} are a result of my recent requests onTemplate talk:WikiProject Yugoslavia. I have since had the header customized to say 'Associated WikiProjects' instead. The intention behind this feature is reducingbanner blindness on Yugoslavia-related talk pages.Talk:Yugoslavia for example is of relevance first and foremost toWikiProject Yugoslavia, but then to all seven of post-Yugoslav country WikiProjects as well. Used sparingly, I consider nesting these WikiProject banners within WikiProject Yugoslavia appropriate only where the topic is non-contemporary and is of utmost relevance to Yugoslavia, and then to one or several contemporary countries that used to be federal units of Yugoslavia (hence nesting being inappropriate on e.g.Talk:Serbo-Croatian). I am wary of implications but believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Happy to have your opinion, cheers. –Vipz (talk)10:46, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

I think that's a particularly bad idea bound to generate disputes and ill will (i.e. all heat and no light) for zero gain because it implies hierarchy where there is none.
WikiProjects Croatia, Serbia etc. are not associated with WikiProject Yugoslavia in any way just as they (or Yugoslavia) are not associated with WikiProject Ottoman Empire. There is no problem if an article is associated with a dozen projects and all those have their respective banner, listed alphabetically or in whatever other order, at the talk page.Tomobe03 (talk)11:10, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
Let's move this discussion to the talk page of that template to have it all in one place? –Vipz (talk)11:24, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Croatian Army in Okucani 2 May 1995.jpg

Thank you for uploadingFile:Croatian Army in Okucani 2 May 1995.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required byWikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available fromWikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as animage copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance withsection F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at themedia copyright questions page. Thank you.Vanjagenije(talk)00:30, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Invitation to good article review circle

Hi Tomobe03, I am inviting previous participants of agood article review circle to nominate another article for a circle. As you know, GARC is an excellent way to get a good article nomination reviewed more quickly and help reduce the backlog atWP:GAN. I hope you will consider participating again, and happy editing!Z1720 (talk)19:34, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

Yugoslavism

Hey, I saw that you submitted Yugoslavism to GOCE. Once it gets copyedited, I'd suggest you submitting it for apeer review. I have found some issues that should preferably be addressed before a FAC nomination.Vacant0(talkcontribs)16:50, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

@Vacant0 the GOCE queue is two or three months long. Maybe the issue can be raised at the talk page and resolved in the meantime? (Not that there is any particular rush, though.)Tomobe03 (talk)16:56, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
Sounds good to me.Vacant0(talkcontribs)16:57, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

Optants?

Hey Tomobe. I find it strange that there's no article about "HE:optants", while there seem to be some notable events having to do with that: seehr:Optanti and linked wikis therein. Does that go under some other name in English, you know?Ponor (talk)15:27, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

It's singularoptant and pluraloptants. While there iswikt:optant covering the word definition, yes an article listing (a list?) of significant cases of exercising of the right would be beneficial. CheersTomobe03 (talk)15:43, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
