[edit]
The Music Barnstar
Thanks for your numerous contributions to Australian music pages, which I keep coming across (even if I do misread your name as "Jesus" quite frequently)!Laterthanyouthink (talk)06:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Awwww thank you. 🙏.Tobyjamesaus (talk)09:13, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Certification Table Entry usage hint

[edit]

Hi Tobyjamesaus. Just wanted to let you know that instead of using{{cite Ryan}} inside{{Certification Table Entry}}, you can use|source=book and|id=page# to get the same effect, like I didhere. Enjoy editing! --Muhandes (talk)07:43, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Toby, you've disregarded Muhandes telling you this like 10 times since. You're still doing it. You can just use source=book and id=(page number) in the certification entry template. You don't need to use certref= with a hard-coded citation. Also, while I'm here, please stop usingsemicolons to bold headings. Use bold markup with three apostrophes perWP:PSEUDOHEAD. Also,
(note the space and slash) shouldnot be changed to
perH:BR. MediaWiki software handles the space+slash better, and changes
to
anyway, so there's no point in changing it.Ss11208:07, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Another shortcut you can use is for New Zealand certifications from the archived radioscope website. Simply use|source=archive instead of overriding the source with a long citation. --Muhandes (talk)15:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

High Voltage

[edit]

You will have noticed thatAC/DC discography is a FLC. In preparation for submitting the list, with co-nominatorVAUGHANJ.(TALK), we discussed whetherHigh Voltage (1976) should be put into a Compilation albums table. I referred to previous discussions at AC/DC'stalk page archive. It was determined to leave the album in the discography list, which typically shows only Studio albums. Consequently it was left in the Studio albums table.shaidar cuebiyar (talk)08:28, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it back, since the international album is classified as a studio album, not a compilation album. It does 2 tracks have the Australian version ofHigh Voltage and theT.N.T. album. —VAUGHANJ.(TALK)08:46, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
HiShaidar cuebiyar, I didn't realise this had already been discussed so intensely (a decade ago). It seems like it got quite personal too... not good. I really appreciate you linking me to that chat. thanks. For the record, I believe it's a compilation album (for the reasons I put in the talk on the AC/DC talk page archive). Maybe the topic will be revisited at some stage. who knows. ThanksTobyjamesaus (talk)06:10, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm on Fire ARIA certification

[edit]

Hi Tobyjamesaus. You added a 5× Platinum certification for "I'm on Fire" inthis edit. I am looking at the source, and I see a 5× Platinum certification, but it is supposedly for "Fire", not for "I'm on Fire". Did you have reason to believe ARIA staff made a clerical error or was this just a mistake? InBruce Springsteen discography both songs have this certification, which is obviously wrong. Note that if we are unsure, ARIA staff are usually quite responsive and we can ask them. --Muhandes (talk)10:19, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Muhandes, thanks for this, I assumed it was "I'm on Fire" based on the higher chart position and legacy of that song, but I agree, it's unlikely it's both. Perhaps clarifying from ARIA is the best way to go? Are you happy to do that?Tobyjamesaus (talk)10:25, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I "fired" an email their way (ha ha). I'll let you know if ARIA answers. For the time being, I hope you don't mind if I stick to the sources and assume this is for "Fire", as written.Muhandes (talk)13:43, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
) totally understandable. Thanks for letting me know - and let me know how you go :)
Tobyjamesaus (talk)13:44, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Just to let you know, ARIA returned to me after they re-checked it, and the certification is for "Fire". They even sent me a screenshot of the form filled by the label (Sony Music), showing the catalogue number and title. Happy editing!Muhandes (talk)06:35, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
AmazingMuhandes. Thank you SO MUCH for following that up and getting back to me. Really appreciate it. Re certifications - how good would it be if ARIA did a portal or something like BPI, where you can search for a title or artist ?!. Anywho, thanks againTobyjamesaus (talk)09:56, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ARIA peaks

[edit]

Hi,thanks for adding ARIA peaks. Regarding Celine Dion, her Imgur.com link includes only albums. Do you have a link for Dion's singles too? I would love to see it :)Max24 (talk)12:54, 19 July 2024 (UTC)HiMax24, I do have all the singles as well. Most of them up to top 200 are on wiki already, but there are some lower ones as well. it's not on imgur (yet). Is there an email address or something I can it to instead?[reply]

I got it! Thank you so much! :)Max24 (talk)13:21, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clear templates

[edit]

Toby, please stop adding clear templates on discographies. You evenrestored it here, which is againstWP:BRD after you added it the first time andI removed it. It adds a huge ugly white space at the top of articles foronly desktop viewers. It has no application to mobile readers, which makes up over three-quarters of Wikipedia's readership, because infoboxes do not show on mobile, and quite obviously portrait mode on mobile doesn't allow tables to display side by side due to limited space. The studio album wikitable is also not even that wide on my desktop display that the infobox even interferes with it anyway. Regardless, as I said, BRD applies. Get consensus on the talk page to use it. It's already been removed. Thank you.Ss11214:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ARIA certs

[edit]

Hi Tobyjamesaus. Regarding the ARIA certifications, could you please avoid doingthis? Isn't it simpler to update the template and usethe template itself? All you need to do is let me know and I'll update the URLs.Muhandes (talk)07:32, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HiMuhandes, thanks for you message. I 100% agree that (only) changing the certification year is way easier/quicker/nicer etc... but I have done it in the past and it hasn't gone to the correct file (eg it goes back to the home page of the ARIA accreditation's page), hence why I put in the individual dropbox page. I'm very happy to be corrected.— Precedingunsigned comment added byTobyjamesaus (talkcontribs)06:03, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The template does not automatically update the link, it needs manually updating. If I notice it, I will update the link. If not, let me know or ask for an update onTemplate talk:Cite certification. --Muhandes (talk)08:13, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HeyMuhandes, ARIA have released July certs now. Are you able to update it please? (or explain to me how to do it, and I will) :) Thank youTobyjamesaus (talk)06:15, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Combining citations

[edit]

Hi Toby. When you add extra Australian peaks or sources for these likehere, please combine the citations. On some articles I've noticed you have just pasted the citations next to each other, in some cases with four citations each next to the other, which artificially stretch columns out. Please try combining the sources/text in the pre-existing chart citations with an introduction as to what the new information pertains to/displays, as I've just done onThe Mavis'shere. Thanks.Ss11214:11, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Toby

[edit]

thanks for creating the PG Roxette article. I madePop-Up Dynamo!, but never got around to making an article for the band. You do great work on this site. ;) Kind regards,Homeostasis07 (talk/contributions)21:26, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Australian charts

[edit]

Wowsers. Where did you find the GoBs and Costello chart history?Doctorhawkes (talk)23:47, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I could tell you but... (ha ha Kidding). It's via a contact at ARIA. A colleague of mine gets data from artists periodically which I update. You're quick to notice, how did you find it so fastUser:Doctorhawkes?Tobyjamesaus (talk)23:57, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think all those pages are on my watchlist. Those sources are gold. Tell your contact thanks from me.Doctorhawkes (talk)00:00, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhhh :) Got it. I'm glad I could help out. I'll pass on your message. Thanks for the message. pS I've done quite a few artists like this - a few more to come, I might add some more to your watchlists soon :)Tobyjamesaus (talk)00:02, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi, in articles likeBackflips in a Restaurant, when an article has been placed in a category such asCategory:2025 debut albums, there is no need to also put it inCategory:2025 albums orCategory:Debut albums since they are parent categories to the first. You did thathere and have noticed you've done that in other articles in the past as well. Thanks.StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me17:09, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
