From the Judges

Hi Guys! Well it's Thehelpfulone's first time properly looking at the scores as he made this newsletter and he's impressed on how much work you have all done. It's a shame to say thatRyanCross has withdrawn from the Cup. We have almost hit 200 DYKs, not far off from 100 GA's andDurova has passed the 1000 point mark on points, with 1347 points so congratulations to her!

Our sincerest apologies for the first version of this newsletter. GARDEN ,iMatthew //talk, andTheHelpfulOne

Hims photos!

Hi Spencer. I'm afraid I am not currently in Syria and won't be going there in the near future. I will take another look in my collection to see if I already have stuff that may replace these. I will also email the photographer and ask if he can change the license on these photos.Yazan (talk)04:52, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Spencer, belated post holiday thanks for your support and nice comments in my RFA, which passed by an embarrassingly wide margin. There's a full glitzy Oscar style version of my acceptance speechhere. "WSC's edits pop up rather unnervingly often on my watchlist" I think with our relative standings in the cup you have little to fear from me!WereSpielChequers17:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

We have 31 days left, just one month left in the first round. The first two months have already produced spectacular results, and we're hoping to see a great race to the end of the round. Get those nominations in for them to count for this round, but remember that any nominations that are not promoted before the end of this round, will still count for round two if you make it. We unfortunately had another contestant, What!?Why?Who?, withdraw this week and we wish them the best.

We saw some big jumps in content upgrades this week! We saw 33 new good articles, 3 new featured articles and lists, 8 featured pictures, 5 featured sounds, and 24 did you know items. (Also note, there are 111 good articles and 222 did you know items as of this newsletter). Keep it up during the final push to round two. GARDEN ,iMatthew //talk, andTheHelpfulOne

Thanks. Sorry, I guess I should have been there to finish what I started but I went offline for a few moments as I thought I might explode with bewilderment. Am I deserving of this one since you have done much of the work. Anyway, here you go. I guess that's the last of my leftover ITN contenders sorted for now. --CandlewickeST# :)20:07, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Small, unimportant matter but, in attempting to separate the ITN archives, I madean error with my capitalisation. I have tried to mend this before adding the archive pages but the correct title with the small "n" in "News" redirects to the category and it also seems that categories cannot be moved. I wonder if you know how to fix this? --CandlewickeST# :)02:48, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Hims GA pass!

Glad to hear the good news and thanks for the barnstar! Without your copyeditting and source verifications, I don't think Hims would have passed, so shukran! An FA might be difficult for Hims due to the lack of official and other sources, but who knows. I'll see what Zozo thinks. He and I have recently moved on toLatakia and I hope you could join in there as well. If we do an FA on a Syrian city,I think it's best we useDamascus orAleppo. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk)01:02, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Syrian Hawk of National Merit

Thanks for the Barnstar and your help onHims. As for FA, I agree with Al Ameer, with the sources we have now it's going to be difficult. But at least I know what to look for the next time I am there. Salamat!Yazan (talk)01:50, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Possible ITN

I think the title you're looking for is probably in the source's headline.2009 West African meningitis outbreak? Possible stylistic comparisons to2009 Bolivian dengue fever epidemic – although many more were affected by that one. Including a nomination link in your signature now? That sounds like a good idea... --CandlewickeST# :)21:57, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi again Spencer, in addition could you please place some sort of protection onthis? I do my best to keep it tidy but it hasn't even been in the news this week and the amount of vandalism I've just removed was appalling... --CandlewickeST# :)23:07, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. --CandlewickeST# :)17:51, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm... I'm currently trying to restore my battered reputation at DYK by attempting to take it over onTuesday... but perhaps I shall take a look... --CandlewickeST# :)18:11, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it's safe to say that this week is probably your last chance to nominate anything for promotion to count in this round, so start planning that all-important final push. Bear in mind that anything not promoted this month will still count in the next round if you go through. It's looking very close in the Wildcards section, so if you don't see yourself there, don't panic—you may not be too far off the pace! GARDEN ,iMatthew //talk, andTheHelpfulOne
