Re: technical status

[edit]

The wikitech-lmailing list is normally the best place to look for such updates. From what I remember of it, they needed new disks in order to do the dumps, and the new disks arrived but there was something wrong with them, and so they're waiting on a new set of new disks. You're likely to get a better answer either by asking on that mailing list, or over IRC inirc://irc.freenode.net/wikimedia-tech, than from my memory; those are the right places to ask. --ais523 18:33, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I did a google on "Baruch HaBa Melech HaMashiach" (including quotes for exact match) and it found a few hits, including[1]. I can't say whether this is authoritative but it may point you in the correct direction. Please see this discussionWikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games#Final_Fantasy_Legend_name_translation_woes.2C_mk._II

There is an ongoing issue with Kung Fu Man over an edit dispute which is getting out of hand, and I'm fairly certain the user is relying on sockpuppets to make revisions to the article. Check the revision history yourself to verify this. Also, I've been receiving harassing comments and threats from this user and am not sure where to turn for help. Please get involved and try to act as the voice of reason. Thank you.74.242.123.2 (talk)01:19, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deflation is a contraction in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services.

[edit]

I strongly oppose the removal of items from article without discussing it first. If I revert the item removed without discussing it, then I will be blocked for "edit warring" and for being a "disruptive editor." The person who removed the item does not get blocked for "edit warring." The person removing the statement without discussing it first, is not labelled a "disruptive editor".

So, let´s discuss this matter. I think the statement: "Deflation is a contraction in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services." should stay in the lead since it accurately defines what deflation is.

Discussion regarding all the above matters invited.

PennySeven (talk)17:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not the original author of the statement.

PennySeven (talk)17:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally various editors should partake in the discussion and not just two. I state again, RJFJR, who agrees with you to remove the statement: "Deflation is a contraction in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services"? Remember, I did not put it there in the first place. Another, third party, editor put it there. He/she and I agree that it should be in the article. You take it out. Democratically that is 2 against one. The statement should stay. Please put it back, thank you.
PennySeven (talk)18:20, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wish to point out again that I am not the author of the statement. So, I have no personal interest in this statement, except for improving Wikipedia.
PennySeven (talk)17:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove statements from articles without first discussing it as you did in Deflation.

[edit]

Please do not remove statements from articles without first discussing it.I know you will not be blocked for "edit warring" or for being a "disruptive editor" as I would be if I should revert your removal, but, please discuss statements on the talk page before you remove them.

The subject's publisher's website is a pretty frail reed to lean on, especially for NPOV reasons. --Orange Mike |Talk15:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that it's a website, but that it'sher publisher's website. A publisher is a commercial enterprise, whose goal is to sell books. They do that in part by selling the authors, as well as the books. The more notable they make an author sound, the more likely they are to sell the reader on that author's book. Thus, there isan inherent COI and an uncertainty as toreliability of source. These pages are the venue of the publisher's publicity department, not editorial. --Orange Mike |Talk20:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Article title

An editor has nominatedCryptic Fate, an article which you have created or worked on, fordeletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments atWikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cryptic Fate and please be sure tosign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove thearticles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you.Jezhotwells (talk)22:56, 8 April 2009 (UTC)(UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Dear RJFJR,

I am a student in Seoul National University in South Korea doing a research project on Wikipedia. I am very impressed about your insight and active contributions. I thought you could provide some opinions really worthwhile. So, would it be possible for you to take some time off and give an online interview via E-mail? It would provide my project a lively voice of an actual administrator. And this will be of a great meaning; your experience, concerns, opinions and ideas would add a lot to my project. Actually I'm in real need of something concrete; for my project is about the mechanism a biased version of explanation is settled, and as you will probably guess, understanding such things involves a lot more than just watching explicit process. Again, I would really, really appreciate your help.

If you are willing to give some help, would you mind mailing me swiftly? I have a list of questions about Wiki. Thanks a lot. I also leave this message to other administrators' user talk for my research. And further I'm a starter so I couldn't find your e-mail address. Please don't be upset about that.

Carbon Burning process

[edit]

I just did a re-write ofCarbon burning process, an Astronomy article. I added a couple of references which covered all my changes. The page previously had lots of warnings about lack of references and style. I am hoping that I have improved it enough for some of these to be lifted. I also contacted user:Rursus who posted on theCarbon burning process talk page and who's page says he's an astronomer saying roughly what I am saying here. I only did minor edits before so would appreciate some feedback. I have chased up all my links and checked the page history for the version prior to my edit. Thanks for your timePuzl bustr (talk)13:11, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a follow-up, I've added some more footnote refs, some of which I have combined as journal article refs and external links, whilst leaving the external links section blank. This is probably bad style, so would like some advice. I'd like to have the article footnote ref in the ref list and the URL in the external link, but don't know how one does this so that the reader can connect the footnote to the URL except the way I've done it. I also explained why one needs stellar models to computer temperatures and densities for carbon burning, and the figures vary based upon the stellar mass, and linked to a database which gives these figures. Hope this helps explain why it was not so easy to give a simple reference for the temp and density for the fusion processes sections which you queried about.Puzl bustr (talk)14:53, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

R136

[edit]

Tried to clean up this Astronomy article by explaining the difference between R136 and R136a, about which there had been confusion. Changed all refs to ADSABS citations, and tried to make the refs complete. Gave simple explanation of what R136 is and what its component R136a is. Removed star chart for R136a (since article supposed to be about R136, see above about confusion) and all references to section on R136a, now defunct. Added refs for all this. Hopefully it can lose some warnings now.Puzl bustr (talk)17:01, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you redirectCondorcet criterion?

[edit]

TheCondorcet method article doesn't make a lot of sense when it includes links to itself, via this redirect. I don't see any discussion of the proposed "merge and redirect" on either article's talk pages, so I'm reverting it. I may be missing an AfD discussion or something, but before you remove large amounts of content please discuss it with others. --BlueGuy213 (talk)00:57, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops. I didn't see the archived talk pages on Condorcet method, where several people suggested the change. Sorry, I've reverted myself. Julie 84

[edit]

In issue 42 of PS238, Dax, an Argonian royal, tells Julie she looks like a member of the First Royal House of Argos. Then Atlas unveils his Argonite, and poor Julie is so badly affected she falls off the spaceship. On the cover of the next issue, 43, she is seen flying the Flag of Argos! So far, this is strictly factual. Speculation: Atlas, Julie, and most if not all of the 84 FISS people (including the first Meta in the PS 238 universe) are Argonian Royals sent to Earth and kept in the dark to keep them safe from the cut-throat civil wars of the Royal Houses of Argos.I've never played the RPG. What more information does it provide about Argos, Atlas, Julie, Ron, and the FISS Metas? Das Baz, aka Erudil17:40, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thank you for all the information! Gotta say the following:

  • Only Argonians are vulnerable to Argonite, just as only Kryptonians are vulnerable to Kryptonite. So if poor Julie is affected badly by Argonite, of course she is from Argos.
  • It's a Thereain'tnojustice shame that such a nice kid as Ron should be afflicted with such a rotten name. Of course, in the Argosian language it probably means something very positive and cool. It's just bad cosmic luck it means what it does in English.
  • Atlas, Ron, Julie and Dax are all related, members of the Royal Family of Argos. The other 81 FISS metas are also probably refugees from Argos (of course they don't know it.)
  • Julie has thought of herself, all her life, as a poor underprivileged ordinary meta-girl - and now she is about to find out she is the lawful Queen of a great planet! That is going to blow her mind.
  • Remember Mr. Terrific? Also from Argos, I bet.
  • In the original concept of Kryptonite, it was totally harmless to earth humans. Later it developed that if you wore it next to your skin for a long time, it would give you cancer. Then in "Smallville" it developed that it causes meta-mutations in Earthlings. If you give it to Spider-Man, it will make him more powerful. What effect, if any, will Argonite have on Earthfolk?
  • Argosians seem to be afflcited with low self-esteem (Ron, Julie, Forak) or arrogant bullies like Dax. Maybe Dax has an inferiority complex turned inside out. That happens with Earth bullies.

Greetings,

As i receive several notes to improve my article and now also face some possible "clean up" of the page i write You in hope to get some helt here.

I found on some page that there is possibility to write help talk to get soem assistance but I dont understand how to do that. Yesturday i learned how to sign message and it took me 30 minutes to find out how to do witch make me feel a little stupid here.

I reviewed my article and i can not see anything wrong with it! The references and the sources are there! Maybee I just dont undertand some policy and what more is required of me but since I do not understand and english is not my native language i really need some help here. Im not used with creating side or articles at all, the only way I learn is to watch how other people do and I copy that.

Could You please review my article and tell me what i should do? The inline citation message is something I dont understand, how pratically to change something.

I would be very helpfull of any help!

Proposed deletion ofChristy Byrne

[edit]

The articleChristy Byrne has beenproposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No significant coverage of this individual found at RS - all the mentions I can find are very minor (most as part of a list of players, others mentioning role in a specific game, but no more than a short sentence). Unreferenced for almost 3 years.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may bedeleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the{{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in youredit summary or onthe article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing{{dated prod}} will stop theproposed deletion process, but otherdeletion processes exist. Thespeedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, andarticles for deletion allows discussion to reachconsensus for deletion. --/|\16:03, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, fordeletion. The nominated article isCyberBunker. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see alsoWikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments toWikipedia:Articles for deletion/CyberBunker (2nd nomination). Please be sure tosign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove thearticles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by abot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk)01:08, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bishop Edits

[edit]

Hi, not meaning to be hostile about this but:Edward Bishop (Salem) was under construction. Were you bored ? Lots of folks get bored and just run through making thousands of edits because they are bored. I was working on that article and your trying to put that one section into a "neat little package" didn't really help at all. The article is part of a task group. Is there going to be a problem if I continue working on this article or was this just randomly a case of that you wanted to do some editing ?John5Russell3Finley (talk)15:56, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your comment, how's about if YOU finnish editing the article up to the point where YOU can remove the cleanup tag all by yourself, failing that I will treat your actions as vandalism and take the apropriate actionJohn5Russell3Finley (talk)23:18, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How to have 2 footnotes for the same book but at different page ranges?

[edit]

Given

<ref name="mybook"> {{ cite book | title=Cat in the Hat | author = Dr. Seuss |page=3}} </ref>

I know I can use that ref again as

but then it would reference page 3.

How can I have another footnote to that same book but to page=6  ?

Grace period for new articles

[edit]

I greatly appreciate your efforts to police Wikipedia, but today I started an article, and got called away before being able to work on it. Within a matter of hours youput a proposal for deletion tag on it.

Clearly, a 1 second "grace period" on new articles would be silly (we'd be wasting too much time flagging "works in progress"), but one weekseems far too long. If there's a happy medium, where is it, and why?Do we have any historical data that could be used to drive a sensible policy(e.g.: 24-48 hours) ?

JonDePlume (talk)19:47, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just an alternative idea: When you are starting an article, put it in a sandbox page rather than publishing it to the world:From Wikipedia, put this in the search box:User:JonDePlume/evercookieand then tell wikipedia you want to start a page by this name. When you are ready for worldwide publication, you can move the page to its new home.—Precedingunsigned comment added byJavaweb (talkcontribs)21:42, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AboutMalleswaram article

[edit]

Hello,
The article onMalleswaram is just written like an essay. For example:Huge student community is visible from the numerous tutorials that are available and more so if one visits the CCD, the Mantri Mall, Sankey Tank and numerous chaat shops. Even shops like Veena Stores and CTR give you a picture of the whole of India having a dish of "idli-vada" and asking for some more "chutney".
and this too:New CCD coming up in front of Sankey Tank and McDonald's just opposite to the 13th Cross Malleswaram Market / Bus Stand on Sampige Road. Only thing missing is a non-veg fast food joint which is affordable.
Even the sectionProminent Landmarks looks like an advertising of the area. I believe that the section should not be included and the entire article reviewed and re-wrttien to look like an encyclopedia. Thanks,Abhishek191288 (talk)12:59, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The section "Prominent Landmarks" lists some eat-outs, schools & colleges, book stores, temples, Hindu religious establishments (Matha), grocery stores/ vegetable markets, etc in Malleswaram. This is clearly not encyclopedic. Infact, I was about to delete it, but by then you moved it to the talk page.Abhishek191288 (talk)15:46, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your nice words of welcome!

Here comes my questions. I’m present on english Wikipedia with username Krzysztofiaczek (since 20 January 2008). I have created a global account on polish Wikipedia and I’like to delete my old Krzysztofiaczek (User ID: 6240065) account because I dont't need it. How can I do this? I-75 in FL

[edit]

I see that you had added the weight/inspection stations to the exit list. They should be added though as separate lines like the toll plazas.DanTD (talk ·contribs) removed your additions, but I think if you had added them like the toll plazas, he might not have reverted that addition. I'm still in favor of moving all of that stuff into the exit list though, so ping me if you need help. Also, we have a discussion atWT:USRD about old and new exit numbers that will affect this article.Imzadi 1979 22:15, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Idid like the idea of adding them in the same way as toll plazas at first, as per the discussion. But then I realized that this format was eliminated from a segment ofInterstate 95 in Maryland that had it's own page, and that these features are considered motorist services, so perhaps they're better off in the existing chapter. ----DanTD (talk)12:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And I disagree. The fact that one article did something isn't binding consensus. Many other articles list services in the junction/exit list tables.U.S. Route 491, afeatured article that appeared on the Main Page for July 4 included an inspection station in its junction list. In fact every British motorway article lists their motorway services in the junction list as separate entries unless combined with a GSJ (grade-separated junction) complete with "Services" as the junction number. Since we seem to agree to pull the old exit numbers, I can convert the entire table for the article over to the{{jctexit}}//{{jctbridge}} templates which will simplify adding in the various additions. Why should we have three mileage-based lists (exits/toll plazas, weigh stations and rest areas) when they can be listed all in one place?Imzadi 1979 19:16, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then, so why wereMaryland House,Chesapeake House, andDelaware House eliminated from the exit lists of I-95 in Maryland and Delaware? And are you planning to add this to other highway articles? ----DanTD (talk)20:36, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, I don't know.MOS:RJL#What to include says that they should be added back.Imzadi 1979 22:17, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects / Un-redirects

[edit]

Thank you for your most gracious welcome. I do have questions relating toredirects. I successfully did one forAgum-Kakrime, a legitimate alias, but I wish to start an article forKurigalzu I and I find somebody else has already redirected it to a table of kings in the article on theKassites. This may have been sensible in the absence of an article, but frankly, this is a rare example of a Kassite king with a fair amount of material worthy of a dedicated article. How do I un-redirect, so I can create a new article?

I am contemplating redirecting the character “Nazi-Bugash / Shuzigash” to the tail-end of theBurna-Buriash II article, where he is briefly referenced as “son of a nobody”, which is, I believe, the ancient Mesopotamians telling us that he isn’t notable enough for his own article. Obviously I wouldn’t want to do this if later evidence emerges to the contrary, so the ease of un-redirecting is critical.BigEars42 (talk)02:21, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
