Quido

I created a page forQuido since it was in demand that a lot of people wanted to know about this new artist. It is my first time at this and so there is no doubt that I am a novice. What seems to be the problem? I got the information from sources the artist himself. So if any explanation could be given for its speedy deletion. I would just like to know what it takes then for an article or biography to be kept on Wikipedia? I even got newspaper writers to look through the io and they approved of its composure.

Apologies, so then?— Precedingunsigned comment added byQ da Hustle (talkcontribs)02:00, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Asia Without Borders

What do you mean by notability? Are you talking about the biography of the individuals or the project itself? Please clarify. (Habibz7 (talk)00:25, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Mr.Habibz sounds like a good name for me. Can you tell me what I need to do in regards to this situation to make it more notable for people. Thanks.(Habibz7 (talk)01:04, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

RHaworth, thanks for your helpful and kind comment. By no means we want to use this page as promotional and advertisement. As you can see there is no indication of actual date regarding concert date, although they are fixed. The main goal is to keep this page solely as informative material, and no advertisement at all. Also, I personally try to follow Wikipedia's guidelines. I am sure other editors of the page will do the same to rescue this page from deletion. Once again, thanks for your help. --R m1364 (talk)06:54, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Socky & Jamie

I created a page forSocky & Jamie, my first attempt on Wikipedia, and was using the code format of another page to learn my way around and have a structure that seemed the norm. I set it up as a user subpage so I could try it out but couldn't get it all done in one sitting. Can you recommend a way to build a page without getting it deleted so I can learn? –BelindaLove [she meantBelindalove (talk ·contribs)]—Precedingundated comment added14:02, 4 February 2011 (UTC).

Moshe Stern

Hello. I created a page forMoshe Stern, but it was deleted, despite the fact that I explained why it is worthy and significant. Although you may be unfamiliar with the person, he is a well-known and important rabbi to orthodox Jews all the world over. –Rebyid613 (talk)23:13, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

To The Chase

I recently created a page for the bandTo The Chase - yes they are not known worldwide yet, but I know many other smaller bands that have pages that are only known in the area they are from and remain on the site...I was about to add more references when you deleted it. I think this process is totally unjust and far to quick. Please explain yourself and tell me what I can do to get it back up...— Precedingunsigned comment added by94.125.16.11 (talkcontribs)

Freeads

Hi, I noticed that today you deleted the article I recently wrote onFreeads. I provided references after the page was marked for deletion and I marked the article with the hangon tag. Please let me know if I need to provide further references to assert it's notoriety, although I thought I had already done so? Please can you also re-instate the article so that I can make the necessary edits? Thanks!Gtebbutt (talk)20:37, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

 • You provided references but I did not see much by way of independent, reliable sources. You compared it to Gumtree which did not impress me much because I am a UK consumer and I had not heard of Gumtree. TheAlexa rank for Freead.net is not promising - but I do see that they have multiple domain names. I suggest: provide better refs and re-submit viaAfC. I would send you the text butread this. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)22:07, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

OK - thanks. FYI Gumtree are the largest classified ad company in the UK and are owned by Ebay! And the domain name is Freeads.co.uk - it was rebranded from Freeads.net as stated in the timeline etc. Alexa page here:http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/freeads.co.uk86.2.252.130 (talk)23:00, 26 January 2011 (UTC) Gtebbutt

Industrial Quick Search

My page on Industrial Quick Search was deleted in November. I was wondering if you could suggest to me ways it could be altered so that I could re-post without it being deleted? The reason for deletion was cited as A7: Article about a company, corporation, organization, or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. Is this simply a matter of sources? If so, would adding a link to the following suffice? \\iqs-server\shared\GoldMine\MailBox\Attach\ICRREPRINTsales(1).pdfAny help you can offer would be much appreciated.Industry123 (talk)20:34, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Saloom Furniture Company

I believe theSaloom Furniture Company is notable enough for a wiki entry because a) it distributes its products throughout the U.S. and Canada b) generates millions of dollars annually c) has been noted by national and industry publications d) has made the Inc. 500 fastest-growing list several times e) is the largest employer in its town and f) has been in business for nearly 30 years. All of this was illustrated clearly in the deleted article. --StopWatch4500 (talk)00:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

DJ Ray Rhodes

Hello, there. I recently wrote my first article aboutDJ Ray Rhodes, a well-known person in Los Angeles. Since having my page deleted, I have re-edited the article somewhat, deleting some parts that may not fit wikipedia's expectations. Are you able to tell me the reasons that page was deleted so that I can redo the article? Any suggestions would be helpful. —PopMuzikFan (talk)01:43, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Festivalfox

Please clarify your position on deleting my article aboutFestivalfox and why you deleted it?I would like to work within wikipedia's guidlines but I don't see the point to this whole idea if people can spend their time trolling other people's contributions and judge them without clarifying their point. Festivalfox was flagged for being a club, it is not, it is a small yet notable cultural database uniting European cultural events organizers. Perhaps you or the Blade of northern something don't appreciate culture, but wikipedia expressely states that size doesn't matter and the article should be about amongst other things of cultural value. the festivalfox article respected that. I suggest you offer some creative contribution to improve articles rather than remove them to compensate for other aspect of your life. This is a wiki site. —loosecaboose— Precedingunsigned comment added byLoosecaboose (talkcontribs)13:16, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

not sure if it is such a good idea to execute your decisions based on assumptions. As for the link, yes it was a typo, you're right, but I doubt that that hasn't happened with you at some point, you could've just as easily gave me a head's up and/or cut and paste it to verify the hang on comments i made; I'm new to the site and it was late. Others, more conducive to the ideals behind anything wiki have suggested more constructively on how to better my article, so please restore it back to: User:Loosecaboose/Festivalfox. Will work on the formatting and adding the links. And yes, it is upsetting to have something deleted without any explanation, and while I'm sure you have to deal with many irate contributors, legit or not, it must come with the territory, and it's your decision to do this job. I'm ready to start with a clean slate so i look fwd to you restoring the 'draft' of an article back to the original thread. cheers!Loosecaboose (talk)12:11, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

 • Pleaseread this. The deletion log clearly states: "A7: Article about a group or club, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject". I consider that an explanation. Antenarrative

Hi there. You proposed this article for deletion as non-notable; however, an article by this title haspreviously been deleted at AFD. This makes it ineligible forWP:PROD: articles that have previously been discussed at AFD, whether kept or deleted, cannot be deleted in this way. To delete this article, you will have to take it back toWP:AFD. (You could also nominate it for speedy deletion underWP:G4, but according to the history someone already tried this, and it was declined[2] - apparently this article is not substantially similar to the one previously deleted under this title.) –Robofish (talk)23:12, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Saad page

Requesting unprotection please on theSaad page, to make a dab page listing "Sa'ad" andSa'ad (name) - "Saad" is a common spelling of the name.17:02, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

 • What a mess!Saad,SAAD andSa'ad all doing different things when one should be a dab page and the other two should redirect to it. Also, I am amused that the title Sa'ad which is predominantly a Muslim name should have been grabbed by a Jewish organisation. I have given you redirects onSaad andSAAD but I would say that the first thing you need to do is to work throughspecial:whatlinkshere/Sa'ad and change each to link toSa'ad (kibbutz) or as appropriate if the link does not refer to the kibbutz. Change the wording ofSa'ad (name) to become a general dab page and includeSa'ad (kibbutz) in it. When that has been done, we can consider whetherSa'ad (name) should be moved toSaad orSa'ad.But: propose the move now atTalk:Sa'ad (name) - seethese instructions - we are supposed to get consensus before serious moves. (I am probably going to get told off for movingSa'adSa'ad (kibbutz) without discussion!) Allow a week to see if there are any views, then if the system does not let you move, get me or another admin to do it - do not copy&paste. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)17:44, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Debo Onifade

I wrote the article onDebo Onifade that you deleted yesterday. I added links that were all from independent international sources. I find him indeed more notable than several young Nigerians that are on wikipedia right now. I interviewed him to find out some more details about him in other to populate the page but if you find some parts unnecessary, please let me know. I just think at a young age, he has made good impact on his field of profession - which is a really exceptional thing in Africa. He has also achieved rare and notable feats in life. If you would please not mind, can you tell me specifically what I should correct in the article and give me permission to post pack. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at theOnline Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

Spaces in OS references

I do not understand why you are inserting spaces in to OS references. If you must space them then you should be using non-breaking spaces as you get wrapping otherwise.Keith D (talk)16:20, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

 • You are inconsistent: you have left three grid refs at the bottom ofRiver Itchen, Warwickshire with spaces still in place. Surely displaying grid refs with spaces is uncontroversial - they are more readable. Seethis list especially the churches. Why have several editors gone to the trouble of using{{oscoor}} rather than{{gbmappingsmall}}? Because they prefer grid refs with spaces. I think it would be unreasonable to ask editors to write grid refs using The best solution would be a change totemplate:OS coord. Itwraps {{{1}}} with urlencode. In just the same way, it could wrap {{{2}}} with a function to convert spaces to non-breaking ones. I suggest you ask atWP:VPT - the function may well exist. Otherwise, ask the developers - clearly it would have wider application than just grid refs. And while you are about it, you should request that ISBNs be displayed using . Try: ISBN 0 12 345678 9. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)17:13, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

I was not looking at the bottom of the article but the main text which the change caused it to wrap in the OS reference. I assumed that it was used consistently throughout. This was the first article that I had come across with spaces in the grid reference. I have not investigated the differences between{{oscoor}} and{{gbmappingsmall}} they appear to do similar things, may be one is redundant? I agree that ISBNs should also not wrap, there is also a problem with the{{convert}} template, which I raised yesterday, where sometimes it outputs non-breaking spaces and in others does not.Keith D (talk)23:52, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

 • Obviously, oscoor, or rather OS_coord and gbmappingsmall are quite different and both are needed. Coord is another that needs nbsp. Gosh, convert looks like a nightmare - glad I'm not involved! —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)00:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

James Blackmon, Jr .

Since you live in the UK, you may not be aware of the prominence of high school basketball in the US state of Indiana. I recently began an article aboutJames Blackmon, Jr..

Extended content
James is a current freshman basketball player who is coached by his father, James Blackmon, Sr. The elder Blackmon was a recognized basketball legend in the state of Indiana, and his name appears in the state's all time high school record books. The senior Blackmon was a former runner-up for the Mr. Basketball award, a prestigious title presented annually to the top high school basketball player in Indiana. Many states have a similar version of Mr. Basketball. The elder Blackmon went on to play a starring role in college as a player for the University of Kentucky. He was drafted into the NBA, but he never played a professional game. I do not know why he does not have a Wiki article of his own; I may consider researching it and posting an article. I have seen many articles on Wikipedia that are not nearly as developed as the brief bio I have given in this paragraph.

The younger Blackmon is a highly acclaimed player who, if he stays healthy, will likely break every record set by his father. The elder Blackmon did not play high school basketball for 4 years (it was not allowed at the time he was in school), so the younger Blackmon has additional time to eclipse dad's records. Some ranking services (yes, they even rank 8th grade, middle school students!) have ranked the youngster as the top shooting guard prospect for the graduation class of 2014, and many rank him in the top 5 incoming freshmen. I can provide reference for those rankings. Would that be enough notoriety to have his article remain in your opinion?

To add to his notoriety, Blackmon Jr. is an incoming freshman at Bishop Luers High School, the high school that just last year graduated Deshaun Thomas. If you don't know Deshaun Thomas, look at the roster of the NCAA's current #1 and undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes. Thomas received a scholarship, and he receives considerable playing time as a freshman for this top-ranked college team. Thomas finished his high school career, also playing for Blackmon Sr., as the 3rd best all-time leading scorer in Indiana high school basketball history. Blackmon Jr. has the talent to make a run at eclipsing some or all of Thomas' records. As a freshman, Thomas played in 24 games; Blackmon Jr. has a chance to break Thomas' freshman records because he can play a 27-game season if his team advances to the state tournament championship game. After 15 games this season, Blackmon Jr. is averaging about 23 ppg; he needs an average of just over 24ppg to beat the Thomas record.

As a deletion editor, I request that you expand your vision of this person. He will emerge on the notoriety radar soon, and I am just getting a head start before the pack sees him too. Others are certainly welcome to enhance the article along with me. blackmon Jr. is worth an article, and I respectfully request that you return his article to Wiki so it may be enhanced as the accolades continue to be generated. Watch this name; you will certainly be hearing more about Blackmon Jr. as he lives up to the expectations.

Bradford Dragons

Hi, I'm quite new to this but I will state my case for inclusion of theBradford Dragons on Wikipedia. firstly many of the other teams in the english basketball league have entries, many not as long as my entry. secondary i followed very closely what had been written about similar basketball teams the manchester magic and leeds carnegie. this entry was only meant to give the public similar information as on other teams and does not contain bias towards them. Bradford dragons also attract crowds upwards of 200 many more than similar clubs who have a page on wikipedia. If Bradford Dragons aren't deemed worthy of a page then surely other basketball teams with less popularity and interest around the country must also be deleted. as well as this they are worthy of a mention both on the English Basketball League page and the City of Bradford Page.talk(— Precedingunsigned comment added byElsy1990 (talkcontribs)03:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Burl S. Watson

Seethis discussion.

You will have to forgive my lack of understanding on linking articles. It is not easy to jump into something like this with no experience. I have tried to do add some items to the article to fit the standards of Wikipedia. What do you think of the article now? I believe my degree in Social Studies Education gives me a better understanding of the historical appropriateness of an article than some random person. Regardless, apparently Wikipedia is run far differently than I would have expected. Let me know what you think. Honestly, I am not even aware of how to resubmit this article. -TomWatsonB

Thanks for your help. I tried to change the name to Burl S. Watson of the title, but it seems to not be working, somehow. It's annoying because the title is "BurlWatson", with no space between the first and last name.TomWatsonB—Precedingundated comment added06:57, 8 February 2011 (UTC).

Rudi Tas

Although I respect your deletion of my page on "Rudi Tas" I would like to point out that you should have at least had the courtesy to look at the discussion page for my extended argument why it should have been postponed. The copyright violation rested only on the question if the information was allowed to be altered (the copyright holders already specified that it may be used, if credited), an answer from the copyright holders was pending and information included already on the page was not copyrighted (consisting of biographical information and plain lists of works & prizes, things that are uncopyrightable) save for a paragraph on style - which you could have deleted solely solving the problem just as well. Or at least you could have notified me so that I could save the darn thing on my userpage (in hindsight a naive thing to forget). I'm a tad disquieted right now, as information on Flemish composers is too scarce on Wikipedia and I will have to recreate the stupid thing again as a stub (making sure not too violate copyright rules by only mentioning biographical details). I'm really not easily accustomed to the English Wikipedia's strictness, coming from the Dutch one. I have learned from my article on "Thierry Lang" the importance of being sourced from the first words you place, and now I'm learning the peculiar oddity of copyright according to Wikipedia (who would have known you can copyright terms describing the quality of music, a list containing the names of the works by a composer, a list of his prizes and basic biographical information). I'm being cynical and childish, I do confess. But really, wasn't it a bit rash? Just a teensy, tiny bit?GodowskyIsDead (talk)19:03, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I would like to add that a conversation with the user "Travelbird" (who applied the speedy deletion tag), was ongoing on the talk page.GodowskyIsDead (talk)19:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

 • All you needed to say was "please e-mail me the text" butread this. Once the licence position is resolved, you can re-post it. Yes, some other language wikis are hopelessly lax -gd: has hundreds (literally) of images which would not survive here for more than a day because of the lack of source and licence info. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)19:28, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Haha, I like the fact you have a page called "moans". Guilty as charged. So here goes: "please e-mail me the text to the article on Rudi Tas". In the mean time I will create a page about him containing only the lists with prizes & works and his name, date of birth and profession (all of which, I presume, are of course uncopyrightable bits of information). I will ad the paragraph on his "style" if the aforementioned licence issue is solved. All in all this seems to be more easy than requesting an undeletion for an article that, as I hopefully sufficiently proved before, really only had problems concerning one paragraph.GodowskyIsDead (talk)20:03, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

We seem to have had an edit conflict on this page; if you want to delete my version as a G6 feel free. Regards!VQuakr (talk)20:12, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

As a reply to RHaworth: I seem to have created quite the nuisance here, I do apologize. Just for further reference I would like to know if I'm correct in saying that Wikipedia regards a list, if copied verbatim, as copyright violation (which I find an intuitively odd concept, as it would enable one to "hijack" a summation of works or prizes by creating a copyrighted article. So by extending this thought: if one would occupy oneself with creating every possible combination of "mentionings" of works, one would make it a copyright violation to mention any set of works containing more than one work. Hypothetically).
Also, finding more than one source will be quite hard for some Flemish composers, including Rudi Tas. In general there are a lot of Belgian musicians that are notable enough if one views there accomplished prizes, but often the only sources of information are Flanders Music Centre, CeBeDeM and MATRIX, who have a tendency to use the same text on composers (containing peacock terms as a surplus, they are subsidized documentation centres, but also have a function as promotors of Flemish classical music), written by one musicologist. On Rudi Tas I only found this curriculum (in Dutch):http://home.scarlet.be/~rt029164/geschriften/curiculum.pdf The text further contains a mention of the author, nothing else. I find it saddening that the Flemish "kerktorenmentaliteit" (church tower mentality) is potentially marring the ability to Wikify their persons due to lack of sources.
But just listen how beautiful the music:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_suD2GJ36I (1'44" till end, video provided by his music publisher). I'll go play in my sandbox now.GodowskyIsDead (talk)20:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
 • I agree that copying of a pure list is probably not a copyright violation. But it can be a WIkipedia style violation - do we need anreferenced list of accolades? No. Instead, you state that "he has received theEuropean AGEC prize and several other awards" and provide a link to the full list. Obviously, mention the most prestigious accolade and provide a wikilink to the article about that accolade - if it ain't got a Wikipedia article then it is not worth mentioning! Similarly for his works: give examples of each type and link to the full list. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)21:29, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

avoid oscoor

Hello, I've noticed a couple of edits you have made (such asBarnards Green) titled "(avoid oscoor)". However, you do not remove the template, but simply reformat it. As part of this, you add digits to the grid ref. What are you doing, and why are you increasing the specificity of the grid ref? Not saying you're wrong, just trying to understand what you're doing.GyroMagician (talk)12:01, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

 • "Avoid" does not imply remove!Template:oscoor is now a redirect but almost without exception (see list), rather than simply replace oscoor withOS coord, it is better to use a simpler template requiring only one parameter. As toprecision, I frequently reduce the precision from a spurious "ten figure" (1 metre!) precision to "six figure"like this.Barnards Green is one of the few cases where I have increased the precision from four figure to six figure. I changed it not for precision reasons but for accuracy - it was 1 km too far west! If you want to revert it toSO 78 45, feel free. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)14:18, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

the Cantstanjas

Why did you delete the page for the bandThe Cantstanjas. I know that you noted they have no historical significance, but if your up and coming, how can you make history unless your allowed to MAKE HISTORY. There are many fans in the Boston area that follow this band that would be interested in how the band was formed as well as key notes on pivotal events for the band as they happen. They were not trying to be sensationalist like you would find on Myspace or Facebook, but were trying to offer an informative page on a recognized website to help people get familiar with the make up and history of said group. Please reconsider your position on this matter as I think there are many fans that are being robbed of their right to this page.65.175.248.143 (talk)01:22, 7 February 2011 (UTC)James Cochrane

 • You do not make history on Wikipedia; you do it on the band's own website. That is where fans find the info. When the band becomes notable, someone with noCOI will write about it here. Please learn the difference between your and you're. —RHaworth (talk ·contribs)01:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
