Uncasville, Connecticut

[edit]

For your information I have re-redirectedUncasville, Connecticut toMontville, Connecticut. Information and history about Uncasville is found under the latter andnot in theOxoboxo River article. In the future please discuss any proposed changes that you wish to make in the appropriate talk page.TheGoofyGolfer (talk)02:53, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have started working on the articles related to Uncasville and Oxoboxo River, and I expect to "fix" the situation soon. --Orlady (talk)20:18, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I createdUncasville, Connecticut as a distinct article. With almost 300 backlinks to that article title, I thought that it needed to be a separate article. --Orlady (talk)03:46, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cities proper

[edit]

Hi, greetings! About the page List of cities proper by population I just wanted to tell you that the last population you put as of 2010 is metropolitan and you know no metropolitan areas are suitable for city proper. The modified registred-based estimation counts the metropolitan areas of the administrative centers which is all cities and towns in the entire provinces except villages and this population is actually the population of the province without the villages. You can check in the site of the Statistical Institute and if you compare the 2000 data of citypopulation.de: Province - 10,018,735 ; City - 8,803,468 and 2010: Province - 13,255,685, City - 12,946,730 you see the difference between city and province in 2010 is negligible.Pensionero (UTC)

Currently the administrative city encompasses most of the province except for a handful of cities. Aside from the population growth, the city boundaries were also enlarged, and this is why the province and administrative city limits are now almost the same. In fact, according to theIstanbul Metropolitan Municipality website (see last 2 paragraphs), the administrative city is now identical to the province. --Polaron |Talk17:22, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Centralized discussion of some census-related issues

[edit]

Hi. With the 2010 Census data becoming a focus for a lot of editing activity, I think we need a US-wide discussion of editing conventions. I've started this atWikipedia talk:WikiProject United States, which I think is an appropriate venue for it. First topic there isDescribing/naming census designated places. Please participate in that discussion and add more topics, if you see fit. --Orlady (talk)19:06, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I started the WikiProject discussion largely because I am hoping to resolve the long-running edit war atTemplate:New London County, Connecticut. I think that discussion would be more productive than continuing the pattern of actions and reactions in the template. --Orlady (talk)02:55, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please, clarify the source on male/female Life expectancy break-down

[edit]

Dear Polaron, would you like to presise where from did you take data for making a break-down for Life Expectancy in the articleList_of_countries_by_life_expectancy. The reference to "United Nations World Population Prospects: 2006 revision – Table A.17 for 2005-2010" leads us only to the average Life expectacy between male and female. I would be grateful to you if you found the initial source.Front315 (talk)10:19, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rochambeau march route historic sites

[edit]

I restoredMarch Route of Rochambeau's Army: Old Canterbury Road, an article which you have a couple times obliterated by redirecting, in what appears to be a low-grade edit war. This article is linked now fromPlainfield, Connecticut,National Register of Historic Places listings in Windham County, Connecticut and fromWashington–Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (and also fromUser talk:Polaron/Archive1 ).

You've noted in edit summaries that the site is "described" in the Rochambeau route article, but brief mention in the text there is immaterial to whether an article about the historic site in Plainfield can exist. It's a notable topic; there is a linked NRHP document and a map in the article already, which were obliterated for readers by your redirects. There's a whole lot more detail that can be added. I will proceed to develop the article. I suggest if you disagree, that you open an AFD about the article, which could conceivably result in it being redirected. But I expect the consensus of editors will be that the article is obviously notable and it will be kept. Or, we could have an RFC about the question, to attract other editors.

As you know, there are 4 more similar articles, which I also intend to restore:

  1. March Route of Rochambeau's Army: Manship Road-Barstow Road
  2. March Route of Rochambeau's Army: Palmer Road
  3. March Route of Rochambeau's Army: Plainfield Pike
  4. March Route of Rochambeau's Army: Scotland Road

Please discuss here or at the Talk page of the article, okay? If you are not inclined to agree with me, please state how you intend to proceed. I will assist in opening an RFC if you wish for that, to obtain wider consensus. I hope it will not be your intention to proceed by redirecting. Redirecting is obviously disputed by me. --doncram18:02, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If your point is that those specific articles should have been better developed, I could accept that. Am developing them. However they already included info, including clickable individual reference with photos of site for readers, that are not in your merger target article. I seriously don't understand why you would target those 5 out of the 28 historic sites linked from the Rochambeau route article (and now included inCategory:Rochambeau route which might soon be renamed). --doncram04:03, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see you chose not to discuss but rather to act by making multiple obtuse redirects again. Can you please explain how on earth you think this improves wikipedia, to lose good information in the articles you have now redirected? --doncram02:48, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This improves Wikipedia by consolidating multiple things that are fundamentally the same and have very limited unique descriptions into one accessible article. All useful information has been retained so no good information has been lost. --Polaron |Talk02:51, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever your idea, your proceeding unilaterally to try to implement something is not good, hence the current edit warring noticeboard. I personally am interested in these historic sites and have devoted some time to developing materials about them. What do you think, your obliterating a bunch of articles is gonna be happily accepted. Your bland assurance that nothing is lost is not true; specifically you lost geographic code information and NRHP infoboxes and you disconnected a bunch of inbound links from Connecticut town and village articles and NRHP list-articles. Even without my checking to see whether you lost more basic text and references. I am not completely opposed to some other arrangement being set up, but your proceeding by non-consensus contested redirect/deletes is not winning me over. --doncram03:28, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Again, nothing substantial has been removed. All the important content and references are still there. Inbound links will be taken care of by redirects. If you want to add geo coordinates, I'll do that. --Polaron |Talk04:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please add your source information? As you know, unsourced information can be challenged and removed at any time; i did already remove your added info from one and will for the other soon, assuming you don't respond promptly. We've been through this before...why not add the source right when you are working from the source? [edit]

Thank you for the improvements you made toPrincipal city.

Notice: 2010 Standards for Delineating Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas made a number of significant changes to the rules for identifying principal cities. We should update the article to reflect these rule changes.

A less important point is thatOMB Bulletin No. 13-01: Revised Delineations of Metropolitan Statistical Areas, Micropolitan Statistical Areas, and Combined Statistical Areas, and Guidance on Uses of the Delineations of These Areas identified principal cities for every Metropolitan Statistical Area, Micropolitan Statistical Area, Combined Statistical Area, Metropolitan Division, New England City and Town Area, Combined New England City and Town Area, and New England City and Town Area Division; not just the Core Based Statistical Areas and New England City and Town Areas as the article states.

File permission problem with File:Wauregan Mill.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingFile:Wauregan Mill.jpg, which you've attributed to Jerry Dougherty. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email topermissions-en@wikimedia.org.

In any case, because North Haverhille is the town center and the postal address for like most of the town, this isn't really a big deal. If you like putting sections of the town, that is fine but that is not what the official sources say. --Polaron |Talk12:32, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See also the community profile for Grafton County[3]. If you have better sources that say otherwise, let me know. Otherwise, I correct the table soon. --Polaron |Talk15:26, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a good question: ifHaverhill, New Hampshire is supposed to be about the town, why are the coordinates given those of the village in the southwest part of the town? --NE209:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. I don't know who placed those coordinates but they don't match that given in the GNIS for the civil division of Haverhill. That village is the original settlement but never really developed. The vast majority of the town civic history takes place in the town center, which is North Haverhill. This is reinforced by the use of the postal address "North Haverhill, NH" for about 75% of the town. --Polaron |Talk11:53, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

reverts

[edit]

You reverted a number of my edits with no explanation anywhere. I removed the Villages category when nothing in the text of the article indicated the place was a village. A census designated place is not the same as a village. And categories cannot be used unless the text of the article supports category inclusion. ThanksHmains (talk)01:42, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You removed the village category from actual villages. Just because the article currently does not explicitly say it does not negate its being a village. In Connecticut, anything that is not a municipality is a village or neighborhood. Census-designated places are a secondary label that some villages also happen to have. In fact, census-designated places should be made a subcategory of villages since some villages are CDPs while others are not. --Polaron |Talk02:28, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
CDP are an independent category structure and they may be towns, villages, parts of cities or towns, or just unincorporated areas. The national category structure shows this. Your statement that these populated places are villages does not stand up to the requirement in the WP category rules that a category must be supported by text in the article. No text; no category. And your statements are then just personal opinion regarding the place with no references to support it.Hmains (talk)04:08, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly why you should not remove the village categories for villages just because they also happen to be CDPs. As you said CDPs are an independent structure. In Connecticut, all CDPs are villages so there is no contradiction. --Polaron |Talk15:02, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • WP:CAT states the text of an article must support the category or the category cannot be used. You also cannot just add the word 'village' to articles without any cited reference in the article justifying this--and you present nothing except personal opinion statements. Your edits are disruptive in not following WP rules and will be treated as such.Hmains (talk)16:16, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • You were hereby warned that you are reverting my edits 3 times or more while refusing to engage in any discussion. Continue with this path and you will be reported to the proper WP monitors.Hmains (talk)00:22, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see you are continuing to ignore WP rules requiring reference citations to support article content and just making up content based on your own opinion.Hmains (talk)04:44, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, articles of:

I have a suggestion. Sometimes, different users (mostly new users) try to change the articles, add false/incorrect data or correct data with other sources - without discussions and consensuses. My proposition: block these articles, if a user wants to make a change - first discussion.Subtropical-man (talk)21:06, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination ofTotoket

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to readthe guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using theArticle Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed onTotoket requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done undersection A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does notcredibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under thecriteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more aboutwhat is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you maycontest the nomination byvisiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line withWikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.Yuchitown (talk)02:32, 10 May 2016 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

Proposed deletion of Totoket

[edit]

The articleTotoket has beenproposed for deletion because of the following concern:

"Totoket" appears in the literature as place names but not as a tribe. No references.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may bedeleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the{{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in youredit summary or onthe article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing{{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop theproposed deletion process, but otherdeletion processes exist. In particular, thespeedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, andarticles for deletion allows discussion to reachconsensus for deletion. -CorbieV17:30, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
