??????Not sure how this works, I was trying to respond to your recent msg about the Pigeon fever page, thanks for cleaning it up. Not sure how to chat with you or email you so I figured I would try and type here and maybe you would find it? I am horseman with lots of years in horses, so I see that I can't cite actually experience for my contributions, so over the years I have read, studied and researched horses, I have testified in court as a horse expert and can explain my opinions and beliefs but can't cite past experience. I was wondering if Wiki would consider a lifetime experience or expert Opinion section on a page? I am sure it would be a pain to control and to prove who is really knows and who just think they know. Just a thought. I notified from my horse site that no Pigeon Fever page was on wiki, so that is why I tried to create.

Hallo, inthis edit you added a DEFAULTSORT and two categories, but didn't get it quite right in either case.

The Defaultsort should be the place someone will look in an A-Z listing for something. No-one looks under "The" or "A", so it's the way to make sure that this film will be listed under "Still". Unfortunately you specified the defaultsort as "The Still Point", which is just what we don't want it to file under.

You also gave the two categoriesCategory:Film andCategory:Australia. Both of these are enormous categories with hundreds of subcategories, and not particularly useful for someone trying to find this and similar articles.Category:Australian films or one of its subdivisions is much more useful.

When an article starts off with non-Wiki style prose like "A common sight on trees and bushes in summer months, the Arabian cicada (Platypleura arabica) is also well known throughout its range" and includes numbers which look like references but aren't, it's worth checking to see if it's a copyright violation. Pick a distinctive phrase, like "Arabian cicada has sucking" and google it with quotes around it ... in this case we find an exact match for the whole of the article, so it's a case for CSD G-12 as a blatant copyright violation. Careful with the unreferenced tags. BothAnastasia Chernova andClass of 1952 Stadium had references. Anastasia Chernova also had categories, so uncategorized shouldn't have been added either. Also, DEFAULTSORT goes after PERSONDATA. I see PamD has been bugging you too. As she said, there is alot to learn around here and it takes time. You are doing a good job and don't get discouraged. Only 4,304,583 things left to learn :)

But it doesn't say anything really, it has mostly empty boxes and one wikilink. And, no notice that it was underway to being expanded. It was one of a litany that I found. Many new pages were created on the same theme, with only one link each. "Some" is more than one. I know year in and decade in pages are usually sparse and just a compilation of events and figures, but these all just contained "one" item and nothing else, not even a notice... Hi, I seem to find a lot of your patrolled articles, because I do quite a lot ofstub-sorting! I noticed that you added a DEFAULTSORT to this one: great, but...WP:NAMESORT tells us that the "III" should go after the Philip in the sort key. It figures: in an A-Z list you'd want all the Ludwells together, then all the Philip Ludwells, before sorting on the "III". I've fixed it, but thought I'd point it out. Just another little thing to learn (that NAMESORT section is interesting reading - I messed up an Icelandic politician lately, forgetting their special rules!)

First, thank you very much for your assistance in editing the "Neohumanism (liberation of intellect)" page. I especially liked the bolding of the first word in the article (definitely your work) and the addition of page rating and categories (possibly your addition).

In the days or weeks to come, I am sure this article will be expanded. However, there is one major task that needs to be done that I have not figured out how to do. Currently, a search on Wikipedia forNeohumanism takes you tohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neohumanism#Neohumanism, which is just a small paragraph within a larger article on the propounder of this philosophy, Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar. I have added a link (a 'redirect'?) at the top of that small paragraph to the main article, which isNeohumanism (liberation of intellect). However, it would make much more sense if a Wikipedia search for "Neohumanism" took one directly to the main article. Hence, I would like to edit the titles and destinations for the two links (Neohumanism andNeohumanism (liberation of intellect)), essentially reversing them. I understand this is possible. I believe it is called "usurping a link". However, I have not been able to figure out how to do this. Could you please assist me with the process?

As the "someone more knowing" ...

Let's look at the situation:

• There is a redirect fromNeohumanism toPrabhat_Ranjan_Sarkar#Neohumanism
• There is some info on Neohumanism there, but much more at a new article currently calledNeohumanism (liberation of intellect)
• There is no other article called "Neohumanism" or any near variation of it
• There is a redirect fromNeo-humanism toHumanism, although the term "neohumanism" does not occur in that article
• There is an article about literary criticism termNew Humanism, which starts off "New Humanism or neohumanism ...", and which has a hatnote pointing toNew Humanism (disambiguation)
• There is a disambiguation page atNew Humanism (disambiguation) which includes an entry forNeohumanism which currently points to the non-existentHumanism#Neo-Humanism

All a bit of a mess. I note that the new article, or something similar by the same editor, has beendeclined at AfC twice - I haven't examined it carefully to see whether the reviewer's concerns have been addressed, I'm just looking at navigation here.

I've just tidied up the hatnote atNew Humanism and the disambiguation page atNew Humanism (disambiguation)

We need to move the new article toNeohumanism. It cannot be done immediately, because the title "Neohumanism" is already occupied, by the redirect, and that redirect has been edited since it was created (it has actually pointed to a couple of different places over the years). If the redirect had never been edited, I could have simply moved the article over.

If anyone could plausibly argue that the new article should not be at that title (as opposed to arguind that it should not exist, which is a separate issue), then we would have to use theWP:RM Requested Move process. But I consider that this is a "non-controversial move", so I have now used{{db-move}} to request that the redirect be deleted so that the article can be moved to that title. I have watch-listed the redirect. An admin will in due time deleted the redirect. Admin practice varies: some will then make the follow-on article move, and others don't see it as their job to do so!

I have added a hatnote to the new article, directing to the disambiguation page for other uses.

I have altered theNeo-humanism redirect to point to the new article: when the article is moved, this will become a double redirect, which a bot will sort out into a single redirect.

I think that just about wraps it up! I've explained what I'm doing, partly to clarify it for myself but also so that you can both see what's going on, as an educational exercise! I hope we've now got it all sorted out, just waiting for an admin to delete the redirect. And the link in the PRS article will need to be updated, although the page move will create an automatic redirect from old title to new (ie fromNeohumanism (liberation of intellect) toNeohumanism, so it's not the end of the world if that link doesn't get updated immediately as it will still work.

Certainly, no one who subscribes to Shrii Sarkar's Neohumanism will object to the move, given that the new article is much more informative, and having a dedicated article offers more scope to discuss the philosophy. No one else should object, because the Wikipedia link to "Neohumanism" already goes to the very same subject.

Your hatnote is a helpful addition to the Neohumanism article. Thank you for that.

When all of this is done, I will have one last not-at-all-urgent problem, which will be to rename the article "Neohumanism (liberation of intellect)" to simply "Neohumanism"... if that does not happen automatically. Even if it is not automatic (that is, part of the process of usurping a link), I suppose that it is probably a lot easier than usurping a link. Pam, perhaps you or MNG would kindly explain this point when you get a moment.

No, please read the definitions: an "Orphan" is an article where you click on "What links here" and there are no mainspace articles shown as linkingto it. "Deadend" and "Underlinked" are the tags to use where there are not enough links in the article itself.

Okay, so, if it has nothing, or not enough, to other wikipedia articles then it is a "deadend" or "underlinked". Sorry :for asking what seems to be the obvious Pam, but I find the definitions and criteria provided (for most topics/tags/whatevers) as always vague or confusing in their definition.

Maybe you should slow down and read a bit more. If you look at the Page Curation window, it gives a definition for each tag: Orphan is defined as "This page is linked to from few or no other pages.",and Deadend as "This page has few or no links to other pages." (there's a bit of confusion as to whether Deadend includes pages with "few" links, and there's a new tag "underlinked"). If you don't understand what you are doing, please stop doing it until you do! • (talk page stalker) I use{{lifetime}}, abbreviated to "l", in {{subst:l|birthdate|deathdate|sortkey}} - eg {{subst:L|1901|1999|Bloggs, Joe}} or {{subst:L|||Bloggs, Joe}}, which adds the DEFAULTSORT and the birth and death date categories. If deathdate is empty it addsCategory:Living people (you can add "missing" or "unknown" if they're dead but no date is available - the former where it should be findable, the latter if not, eg historic person). {{lifetime}} is actually depreciated and shouldn't be used. You won't find it on any articles. It actually gets DEFAULTSORT wrong on non standard cases and doesn't add all the information Persondata does. I think Persondata will be depreciated within the next year whenWikiData is fully on-line, but that is just a personal opinion.

{{DEFAULTSORT:Last name, First name}} is not always the case. There are a ton of permutations. Look atWP:NAMESORT for the grizzly details. I essentially wrote the section, so if you have questions on a DEFAULTSORT value, just ask.Bgwhite (talk)18:38, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

• There's nothing at{{lifetime}} to say that it's deprecated, but I only use it with "subst" so it disappears as soon as I've saved the article. As far as I know, PERSONDATA doesn't generate the birth and death date cats: does it create a sort key? I thought an article needed DEFAULTSORT and date cats as well as PERSONDATA: am I wrong there?

• Any article that shows up with lifetime gets redone with persondata and appropriate cats. I know of a few bots and individuals who do this. So, instead of a person adding lifetime, use persondata and appropriate cats as more information gets added. For example, "short description" in persondata is a required parameter, but lifetime doesn't add it. It also doesn't add birth place and death place either. All I'm saying is lifetime doesn't add everything, so somebody else ends up adding it in. It's better to do it for oneself.Bgwhite (talk)21:43, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You recently made changes to several pages I have just put up, e.g.Yao Islet, reducing the map size to 350. Is there any (unspoken) law about that? I made them all 768 which is my maximum client width, because the features are very small and otherwise unviewable. Is there a better way of doing it, invoking Location map Bantayan directly?

Hello Mr. Perry. Yes I did make the changes. I agree firstly that it would be best if there was a map with a closer frame. ::However, my reasoning for doing was that people truly interested in the article and are there to research something then they just ::have to click on the map and it would open in another tap full view, no?

The way the article was presented made it about a map, it was the first instant thought when the page appeared. The actual ::article and information, along with any other information that another contributor puts would be simply lost to a map. In my ::work as a magazine editor I was always trained to avoid such layout.

However, if you would like your article to look like that, then you are free to change it, I worked on an observation. An ::observation to streamline the article. I won't re-change or take anything further.

Well all the news organisations and newspapers (AP, Reuters, BBC, etc.) carried a picture of this diamond. Problem is, are we allowed to use those pictures? Do you know, or do you know someone who knows? If we're not allowed to, I will do a little research as to where whoever obtained the pictures of other diamonds (e.g.Koh-i-Noor,Hope Diamond, etc.) obtained them. At worst we could obtain an old, historical, photograph of the Archduke Joseph, one from before the diamond was slightly recut in the 1990s. Recently, I've been working onWikiProject Stub Sorting, moving articles marked as {{stub}} to more specific stub categories so that people who know about a specific topic can focus on stubs about that topic. I noticed that you've tagged a lot of articles (at least 45) with a generic {{stub}}, which makes more work for stub sorters. A (mostly) complete list of all available stub types can be found atWikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types. Apologies, ou are right, I should have put a suggestion to the talk page. Simply put my feeling is that a little explanation to :what a plantation house is. I understand to some degree as my ancestry is Irish, who suffered a lot though "plantations" both :within Ireland and abroad to places like Jamaica, am I correct that we are talking about the same types of plantations? I just felt :that the opening lead section didn't quiet explain what a plantation house was, was it a work house or simply just a plantation :where items were grown?

User Gnangarra and others are involved in an edit a thon regarding a project which has been held today - to tag articles on creation (or within 10 minutes of creation ) is way well beyondWP:AGF and allowing created articles to be adequately edited... also to follow them (the articles) with tags is outright bad faith... try looking seeing how many edits have been made by a user, also check to see - yes, he is an admin - very unlikely to create a taggable offence... best to investigate a bit further before tagging anything...SatuSuro09:17, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advise SatuSuro. It would however be nice if you could give me a specific example about which article we are talking about. The beauty of wikipedia and tagging is that they can be removed very easily, no? Yes there are some excellent contributors on here who do excellent work, there is however many others who only do a half-good job and then leave it. So I apologise if I have stepped on somebody's toes. But if I may point out it is very easy for any contributor to add a tag to the article saying that it is in the process of being expanded and worked on, so people like us know to give the contributor the space :to continue their work uninterrupted, no?

It is good practice for anybody who takes their writing seriously to read their material properly before posting, to make sure things like minor copyedits and language are not missed. And any contributor can easily remove a tag when they return to finish their work. I will heed your advise and stay away from any article that is freshly created.

I'm sure you can appreciate the amount of time, cost and work that goes into running a series of workshops and how unwelcoming to new editors who are being guided through the process such tagging is, its also very unprofessional response that reinforces all the bad things our partners have heard about working with Wikimedians. All of these articles will be expanded, additional sources added they have not been abandoned, I'm sure 7+ years of editting and having written FA's, authored FP's garners me a littleWP:AGF in that articles I create during a workshop wont be abandoned. I not sure how many workshops or training session you've run but sometimes creating simple fixes is a better way to engage some new editors rather than having them starting articles from scratch. While we can all get the odd spelling wrong, SatuSoro's got a point in querying your unusual use of colons: I don't know whether they're meant for emphasis, or as the equivalent of quote marks, or what, as they aren't used like that in any register of written English with which I'm familiar. It seemed more than just a query about my irrational use of colons, more like a shot at my own colon? Anyway I'm not here to get into a childish slugging match about colons and colonoscopies. Simply, I had put the colons (:) in front of each sentence to create the indentation, as opposed to just at the start of the paragraph, I have removed them now. I made thefaux pas in error after trying to figure out SatuSoro's message. If people had seen my same text after clicking "edit" it would have been easily spotted that I had put them (:) at the start of each sentence as opposed to writing in some neu-style. Anyway folks, lets all move on to better things.

No problem. If you have a look atthis edit I made, you can see I removed some commented-out text and, more importantly, an AfC tag — that's the bit of Wikicode that looks like this: {{AFC submission|||ts=20121204070109|u=Msiitmandi|ns=2}}. When you save a page with that piece of code on it, it produces an AfC tag — which looks like the tag you can see at the bottom ofthis page (scroll to the bottom). They are used to keep track ofAfC submissions, they should be removed when a submission gets transfered into the main article space, but sometimes they get left in place. If they don't get removed from the article then that article sits on the AfC 'pending submissions' list for ever — which is annoying... I have some concerns about the external links used for attribution, as they do not constitute areliable source, but there is no really compelling urgency to replace the refs, given that the content is decidedly non-controversial. In almost all circumstances, there is no legitimate reason to use it, and it shows a lack of care for detail in nuances that much of the media shameless displays in their depiction of Chinese geography. Quick rule of thumb: in Chinese and Korean names, the portion of the name with more syllables is usually the given name. I guess you're doing the same thing as me - working through theCategory:Pages with missing references list to correct them.

I don't want to bitch, but it does seem that on more than one occasion you've been too hasty, and committed without checking results. For instanceThe Grapes of Wrath (film) - it quite clearly states at the end what the problem was (needed a{{reflist|group=amazon}}) but all you did was insert another{{reflist}} immediately before the one that was there, which didn't cure anything.

I take this exercise as an opportunity to apply other edits to the article too, if it grabs my fancy. So in this example (The Grapes of Wrath (film)) the simple solution would be just to do what the error message tells you. But the longer solution, and probably what the original author wanted, is to remove the group name from the <ref>.

I'm also keen on articles having proper citations, which aren't dead, so I often try to clean the citations too. That usually involves a change from a straight[http://a.b.c xxxx] style to a full-blown{{cite web}} because then I can add a date showing when the link was last checked. Takes time.

For example, the Australian genealogy website (and also royalark,net) that you used is not reliable perWP:RSN, onefivenine often mirrors our content, and lists of Jat clans are 10-a-penny on the web but rarely with any provenance (again, they often mirror our content). In all honesty, I wouldn't trust websites for much at all when it comes to sourcing India-related articles - even the government and the newspapers regularly copy our content and so unless you are familiar with the things it is very easy to hit problems. It is a single reference, but it is issued by the organizer of the World Cup, so I'd guess it counts as authoritative. So I removed the tagging.

Also, you might as well add the refimprove tag with the|date=October 2013 parameter set from the beginning, to reduce the number of edits needed in the project.

You seem to have some real problems understanding what exactly areliable source is, so I figured I'd leave a slightly more verbose message. Reliable sources need to have an editorial team that fact checks information on the site.User generated content, such as what you see at the IMDb, is not considered reliable. Social networking sites, online stores, blogs, and otherself-published sources are also not reliable.Primary sourcescan be reliable, but they should be used with caution. Examples of primary sources would be the company itself (OK for basic facts, like date of establishment), court documents, eyewitness accounts, and the official website of whatever it is that you're writing about. Primary sources should not be used in biographies of a living person.

If you're not sure, look at the "About us" or "Contact us" page of a website. If it doesn't list an editorial team, exclusively uses first-person nouns (for example, "Welcome tomy site!I established this web site in 2006. All copyrights are reserved byme."), or there's a way to edit the content yourself (like the IMDb or Wikipedia), it's probably not reliable. Newspapers, magazines, books, and scientific journals areusually reliable, but you should validate that they have been reliably published. Books are sometimes self-published, newspapers can be unreliable tabloids that spread gossip, and magazines can be self-published webzines. None of those are suitable for a citation, and they shouldnever be used in a biography of a living person.

First, I'd like to apologize for what must have seemed like a mass-revert of your edits, but I think the articles in question were better off tagged with cleanup templates than left with unreliable sources, such as eBay and the IMDb. This way, it signifies to editors that the articles still need cleanup. As far as reliable sources go, here are some pointers:

• WP:ALBUMS/SOURCES, a list of reliable sources vetted byWikiProject Albums
• WP:VG/RS, same fromWikiProject Video Games
• WP:FILM/R, same fromWikiProject Film
• WP:CMC/REF, same fromWikiProject Comics

Variety,The Hollywood Reporter, andIndiewire are good sources for films. TheIMDb is a good starting point, but its content is user-generated and thus unreliable. The IMDb can not be cited as a reliable source, and many editors (such as me) will automatically remove any citations to the IMDb that they find. Some people swear byAllmusic/AllRovi, but I don't. Its content is mostly reliable: the reviews are professionally written, but some other aspects of it (such as mood and genre) are user-submitted. You can (and probably should) cite the reviews, but Allmusic can't be used to establish notability, as their purpose is to documenteverything, no matter how non-notable it is.The A.V Club,IGN,Entertainment Weekly, andTIME are good sources for pop culture (music, comics, films, books, etc). CNN, ABC, CBS, etc are also good sources to check. WP:RS/N is where I usually go if I'm not sure. It's got a searchable archive that you can use to see what people think about websites. Discogs.com and Metal-archives.com are both user-submitted, so they're not reliable. Social media sites are worthless. Letterboxd.com, last.fm, Facebook, Myspace, etc. are never reliable sources. CD Universe, Amazon, eBay, etc. are online stores. Some editors believe that Amazon.com is a reliable source for release dates, but it would be rather contentious to use it for anything else. I believe there are better sources than Amazon.com, and a link to Amazon.com in the lead really doesn't accomplish much. The same thing goes forRotten Tomatoes,Metacritic,Allmovie, and other databases. There are better places in the article to place them, such as the reception section and external links. We have special templates for adding most of them. For example, seetemplate:IMDb title andtemplate:Rotten Tomatoes. For films, I could give you extensive lists for genres, but I'm not sure it would really be all that useful. Try the obvious ones:Fangoria orBloody Disgusting for horror films,Twitch Film for Asian films,Film Threat for cult films, andIndiewire for independent films.Screen International,Film Journal International,Bright Lights Film Journal, etc are also obvious choices.Rolling Stone,NME,MTV,Pitchfork Media,Kerrang,Sputnikmusic, andThe A.V. Club are good sources for music news and criticism, I suppose. Most people useBillboard for charts.AllRovi is useful for their reviews. Try looking at what Good and Featured articles use for their sources and use those sources yourself. Avoid blogs, likeBlogspot andWordpress. Try to avoid sites that look like they're run by fans, volunteers, or other non-professionals. Be especially wary of sites that have bizarre names that make no sense: vizookzi.com or whatever. They're often spam sites, what is sometimes called asplog.
