Trolleybuses in Athens moved to draftspace

An article you recently created,Trolleybuses in Athens, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations fromreliable, independent sources.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is ofcentral importance on Wikipedia). Right now the only thing which is sourced is the preserved vehicle. The link for the source used for routes, does not give a list a of routes. I've moved your draft todraftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Module speedy deletion

Hello, Minoa,

I wanted to alert you that an editor taggedModule:Adjacent stations/Proastiakos Athens for speedy deletion. I can see that you weren't notified of this. I've untagged the page but could you check out there deletion rationale and see if it has any merit? Thank you.LizRead!Talk!02:16, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello: the transition toModule:Adjacent stations/Athens Suburban Railway started on 10 November 2022, whenProastiakos Athens moved toAthens Suburban Railway, because the latter is the name thatHellenic Train uses. However, I moved the module without realising that the module system did not support leaving redirects behind. I temporarily recreated theProastiakos Athens module as an emergency fix, while the transition was taking place.
REEDriler and I were the only contributors to the module, and since all articles now use theAthens Suburban Railway module, there is now a case for deleting the module, albeit as an incorrect name: the main reason for this is that I have recently looked up the term "Proastiakos Athens" on Google, and it returned only content directly or indirectly sourced from Wikipedia. Therefore, I have reason to believe that "Proastiakos Athens" was a spillover from the transliterated name.
The main reason that I forgot to correct the error was simply that I was busy in real life. I will correct the error inAthens Suburban Railway, and ask you andREEDriler about how we should deal with theProastiakos Athens andProastiakos athens redirects (delete or recategorise as "R from incorrect name"). I apologise for any confusion that the situation may have caused. --Minoa(talk)02:48, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Russian propaganda lessons help

Dear@Daniel Case: and@AlexEng: viaWP:TRLA, I am posting a request for translation assistance in my user talk page because I am currently working on the following project in my user space. Your understanding is appreciated.

I am making a list of Russian propaganda lessons (currently atUser:Minoa/Propaganda) and I want to make sure the translations do not drift too far from the original Russian text. I wonder if you can please help me on this. Afterwards, I think I could consider opening up the draft to further development by editors familiar with Russian propaganda stuff. This is mainly because I have been reducing my exposure to the news because of how depressing it is.

Best, --Minoa(talk)23:32, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AFAICT, Minoa, they look good and accurate to me. They're not very complicated Russian phrases, thankfully.Daniel Case (talk)18:36, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I now wish to ask what name should we use for the proposed article: "Conversations about the important" appears to be a literal name. Quite a few sources refer to them along the lines of "Russian patriotic classes", but there are a lot of variants. --Minoa(talk)01:12, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, funny you should have said that because I just looked at the page again and that struck me, so I was coming over to bring it up.
That English title is literal, alright ... literal to the point of sounding awkward in English, as I think you have recognized. My take would "Conversations about what is important", adding a word in English not present in Russian, but making it sound much more natural in English. (And Googlerenders it into Russian exactly as it was originally! Great!)Daniel Case (talk)20:12, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would actually render this as "Conversations about that which is important". In Russian, the adjectiveважном implies an object which is not there; this is correct in Russian grammar, but not in English. Using "things" seems okay at first blush, but it's more narrow than the Russian version suggests. When you use "that which is important", you most closely mimic the Russian version in English. Hope that helps!AlexEng(TALK)23:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking over the topics you've translated:
    • День учителя is more closely translated as "Teacher's Day" (or, less likely, "Day of the Teacher", since Russian doesn't havearticles). If it were Teachers' Day, it would be День учителей. I know the English article title isTeachers' Day, but I noticed that you directly transcribed "Day of the Elderly" rather than "International Day of Older Persons", so I thought you might want to keep it consistent.
    • Similarly, you can choose whether to call День музыки "Music Day" or "Day of Music".
    • День народного единства directly translates to "Day of the People's Unity"
    • Волонтеры России – while this is technically correctly translated to "Volunteers of Russia", it's possible that the meaning was lost. Волонтеры in Russian can mean either "volunteers" or "people who voluntarily enlisted in the armed forces". Can you confirm that this is referring to civil volunteer activities and not patriotic military enlistment?
    • Новый год. Семейные праздники и мечты – "праздники" are "holidays". They can entail celebrations, but I think you meant to say New Year's Day: familyholidays and dreams.
    • Светлый праздник Рождества – Again technically correct, but Светлый is also used to mean "happy" or "jolly", seeWiktionary.
    • Год педагога и наставника – Direct translation would be "Year of the pedagogue and mentor". "Pedagogue" seems pretty archaic, but they did specifically use that word rather than учитель, which means "teacher". Up to you how you want to do it.
AlexEng(TALK)23:53, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AlexEng: I have done my best to accommodate your advice. I am able to trace the official references forSenior Citizens' Day,National Unity Day, andYear of Teachers and Mentors, which permits me to useTeacher's Day andMusic Day. In respect ofVolunteers of Russia, I refer to civilian volunteer activities. Feel free to comment on my changes, although I am still thinking about the Article title because quite a few reliable sources call them "Patriotic lessons" or similar, e.g. byWashington Post andThe Moscow Times. --Minoa(talk)08:46, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suburban Railway

Hello, about the de numbering you made on the suburban railway articles, I inform you that according to the new map of the suburban and regional lines, they do have colours (yellow, purple, green, blue) and numbers (A1,A2,A3,A4) and they are official, and the maps using this scheme are present in the Hellenic Train's website as well as some of the network's stations. So you can just take the old pages, and switch Π1 for A1, П2 for A4, П3 for A3 and Π4 for A2, and the grey of Π4 (its new name is A2) for the purple colour it has on the maps.GoatGamer1 (talk)18:55, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I find the map on the internet? I wish to review it first. --Minoa(talk)18:57, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GoatGamer1: I don't think you can just upload files you found on the internet: they have to be licensed under a free Creative Commons licence. They may make a good reference, but as a file on the Commons? Not so much. --Minoa(talk)19:49, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
the file is not any random file on the internet, it's from the Hellenic Train website. I get what you meanGoatGamer1 (talk)20:15, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
and this map/variants can be found in some actual stations, like Rouf.GoatGamer1 (talk)20:16, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suburban railway line logos

In the logos, you got the colours right, but you should switch A2 with A4, as A2 goes to Ano Liosia and the Airport, and A4 goes to Piraeus and Kiato. But otherwise good job!GoatGamer1 (talk)12:49, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@GoatGamer1: This is because I am considering a new station list format similar to the ones that I did for the Athens Metro (seeUser:Minoa/Stations). I apologise for the slow pace, but not only I have to verify them with the network statement annexes, some of the stops from the Hellenic Train ticketing database are for bus replacement service use only. --Minoa(talk)22:23, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, however the stations west of Kiato it isn't clear if they are an Athens regional line or just a regional line , and is not numbered and not in the map of the suburban - regional railway.GoatGamer1 (talk)07:08, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the deletion should be an issue, because the category originally heldMonastiraki, but then it became clear that new platform levels do not count as a new station (e.g.Bond Street). --Minoa(talk)06:17, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello@Minoa:, note that I requested a protection forVyond due to war editing, IMO and IYO (in your opinion), the two sources that you removed are not reliable. Another question, do Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or ACBB Foot (see here, if only I show my Vyond series at Le Gallo and they ad an episode of my series in their last news section) are reliable? You can find my requesthere.Manchesterunited1234 (talk)14:07, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the minor delay,@Manchesterunited1234: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are not reliable because they are user-generated content with little to no editorial oversight (seeWP:RSP). As the outcome of the request indicates, you should raise the matter at the article's talk page orWikipedia:Dispute resolution, as we probably need more uninvolved editors to de-escalate the situation before it spirals out of control, and I am actually not in good health to handle complex disputes. --Minoa(talk)19:34, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Athens Metro stations

Can you clarify when a station is considered interchange and when not? You prompted me toList of London Underground stations, but there Hammersmith station is listed twice for example and that is blatantly, not even with merged cells. I assume that is because that station has two different buildings, right, despite being shown as an interchange station in the tube map? However this is the case with two Athens Metro stations as well (namely Piraeus and Attiki, in which you need to tap out from one station and tap in again with your tickets. In Piraeus you also completely exit the line 1 building to go to the stairs that go to the underground line 3 station). So what is the correct way? —Dimsar01Talk ⌚→17:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dimsar01: You could use the "Interchanges and notes" columns to explain the Out-of-Station Interchange (OSI). I also think we need a source to show that the connections are being separated by ticket barriers. --Minoa(talk)19:43, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thessaloniki Metro BSicon set

Thanks for uploading themHST u~red set, but can you do them as BHF instad of HST? It's pretty standard practice to use the bigger station markers on these diagrams (seeTemplate:Copenhagen Metro route diagram andTemplate:Athens Metro route diagram), and the fact that on this they are split between red and blue makes it much less legible when the small markers are used. Thanks!Michail(blah)11:53, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sarah fides: Fixed. I kind of interpreted intermediate stops differently from the terminus stops.Minoa(talk)13:41, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sarah fides: it is worth noting that according toTemplate:Railway line legend,File:BSicon BHF.svg is intended for large (major) stations, whileFile:BSicon HST.svg is suited for intermediate stations with no interchanges. This is what led me to use HST over BHF for intermediate stops with no interchanges. --Minoa(talk)11:07, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Minoa Thanks, yes I am aware. I think the general convention (based on typical use of of BSicon sets for route diagrams) differs from the more technical diagrams of railway lines that the set was originally intended for. Off the top of my head I can't name any metro template inCategory:System rail transport templates that make a distinction between major/minor stations (not including interchanges; note that templates that describe commuter systems as opposed to rapid transit do use the major/minor distinction sometimes, for example Jura). --Michail(blah)11:26, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Line 4 February Progress

Hello, I am a Wikipedia editor for Athens Metro Line 4 and I would like to mention that I have talked with the Vice President of Line 4 for Galatsi Municipality, and he said that TBM Niki hasn't reached Galatsi station yet even if a source claims too. The TBM is currently under Chrsitou Lada street. The TBM is set to reach Galatsi station in February.LaparohMesa (talk)14:00, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with your edit is that you did not provide a reliable source to back up the official's statements, and the English Wikipedia has a policyadvising against original statements and primary sources with no secondary sources to support that. C.C.@Eva The Lefty as one of their edits was affected. --Minoa(talk)16:55, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Considering naftemporiki.gr and ypodomes.com are generally considered more credible sources and they are also newer so I think it is better to just keep it as "Until 2026" considering it is the more credible option. @LaparohMesa, no oneowns the articles, nor they can tell other users to not edit them if it does not follow layout conventions. As far as I can see, the table of Phase 1 deleted references and does not follow conventions similar toParis Métro Line 14 orCircle line, and I may have to revert to the original layout. C.C.@Eva The Lefty andThe Emperor of Byzantium for awareness. --Minoa(talk)23:09, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Could u plz undo ur edit so that it's my boards but you add the references?LaparohMesa (talk)08:28, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@LaparohMesa: with all due respect, I'm only trying to follow good practices on making good Wikipedia articles, such as1 Line (Sound Transit),List of Copenhagen Metro stations andList of London Underground stations. Now, this will require being more selective about what columns we include, such as local authorities, and is also proof that I also don't own the articles and I am trying to follow established article design conventions from other editors.
Your tables added the regional unit, which I believe is unnecessary given the spacing of the stations on the network. You also used line icons, which I am concerned may be unnecessary perMOS:XMASTREE, and only relevant in listing lines that serve the station in articles such asList of Athens Metro stations. There is alsoMOS:CONTRAST, which seems to imply that coloured rows and cells should be used if there is no impact on readability: but since Line 4 is set to be light orange, I decided to use a regular header to avoid text contrast issues. --Minoa(talk)14:00, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
