Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you editedDonald O'Connor, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation pagePolice Story. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles.Read theFAQ • Join us at theDPL WikiProject.

Wonder Woman

[edit]

You may want to click the "plot length" button on the left. You restored a version that was not only longer, but poorly written. It had run-on sentences, 1 sentence paragraphs, and irrelevant details that did not impact one's understanding of the plot of the film.  BIGNOLE (Contact me)16:52, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am reiterating Bignole. The word count is at 699 words. It's fine as it is. No need to edit it or make it any longer with your version (which was at 714 words).🍁17:28, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The current version (which I had edited) is at 700 words. The one you keep putting back is 715 words. The "330 characters" that you are removing are actually html characters for links and not part of the word count. That's why it appears that you are shortening it, when in fact you are adding to it.  BIGNOLE (Contact me)18:30, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Goalsmini: I noticed that you are new around here. We appreciate you taking an interest in trying to shape Wikipedia, but there are a fewWP:BASICS that you might want to familiarize yourself with. We always want to try to get information right, ESPECIALLY regarding biographical information, so we stick to using reliable media such as major news sources or other places that have multiple people doing fact checking instead of just "I met/am related to/hang out with Ms./Mr. Famous so I know this for a fact". The person whose edits which were reverted didn't seem to understand this, or was disregarding our need for such sources, and therefore multiple editors legitimately reverted multiple edits made by them. In fact, that user's edits and incivility towards other editors led to being blocked. If they had taken the time to read up on Wikipedia's rules, perhaps that wouldn't have happened. Hopefully you will become a successful editor, unlike that person. Cheers,LovelyLillith (talk)01:25, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Get Alaska Thunderfuck up to 433 references

[edit]

Could you please help me get theAlaska Thunderfuck article up to 4333 references, pretty please with sprinkles on top!

@Goalsmini: Please see the discussions on the Talk Page. While I am doing my best to verify the existing references, it appears that getting that many reliably sourced references would be a challenge; there is no need to have a set number of references, the emphasis is on ACCURATE references. Why do you feel that it needs that many? It will not improve the article's search engine ranking. Are you affiliated with Alaska?LovelyLillith (talk)21:49, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vital articles

[edit]

They were all from the entertainers list - and picked for their notability in North America, despite more notable women in the Vital Articles lists being overlooked. We have no one on this list from large chunks of the world (yes, people on the Vital Articles list) and already a serious overrepresentation of entertainers and North Americans. As an Australian, the idea that Olivia Newton-John is the most vital article on an Australian woman on Wikipedia is...absurd. It's just depressing seeing people casually reinforcing systemic bias issues when it's an easy opportunity to actually do something about them. The Drover's Wife (talk)20:13, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cara Morey

[edit]

Could you please alert me if you spot a prod, etc. for articles like Cara Morey? I would like to support the inclusion of articles on women's hockey players. I think the hockey project is being short-sighted in pushing the same standard on women's players as men's players. The stage of development for the men's game and women's game is completely different and also the vast amount of coverage of the men's game is very repetitive anyway, so quantity is probably not the best measure.Alaney2k (talk)17:07, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please give it a review, and provide endorsements at the bottom and/or comments on the talk page. If you would like to plan an activity or can think of something that could be funded that isn't already included, please bring it up! The goal is to have the grant submitted for review early in the week.
  • Ourmembership list has been revamped and supports the addition of new details (such as name, picture, location, and titles). Members are welcome to update their entry if they wish (all details are optional).

Movement Strategy

  • Sam (PonyToast) and Maria (Rimmel.Edits) have signed up to serve as ourOrganized Groups Strategy Liaisons; through December, Strategy Liaisons will act as a conduit for ideas, questions, and updates between the Movement Strategy and organized groups such as our own. Thank you to both members for taking this on!
  • TheWikimedia Summit 2019 just came to a conclusion. Maria Rimmel (Rimmel.Edits) served as our representative this year, following her work at the Ohio State University and WikiConference North America. This year's event had a heavy focus on the Movement Strategy Process and its Working Groups. Maria will be providing updates and outcomes of the conference on the user grouptalkpage soon - keep an eye out!

Upcoming and Ongoing Events

  • This May is the election for twoAffiliate-Selected Board Seats for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The Ohio Wikimedians User Group will be eligible to cast one vote. Be on the lookout for updates on how we will decide our vote.
  • Two edit-a-thons are being hosted for Ohio State Department of Spanish and Portuguese students this month. One edit-a-thon is focusing on improving Wikipedia's coverage of female and under-representated language scientists, and the other on Latinx studies.

Recent Events

  • WikiConference North America 2018 (Oct 18-21) at the Ohio State University was a great success! Over 200 attendees (including those representing over 15 Wikimedia affiliates and 25 academic institutions) attended the 70+ sessions we had. A big thanks goes to all the event's organizers, volunteers (including those from Ohio Wikimedians), sponsors, and session hosts. View thefull report (work in progress) for more details and outcomes. You can also check out thephotos on the Commons.
Photos bySixflashphoto,Geraldshields11, and Benjoneswhite.
"By doing an event like this, we can show people that you can edit; your contributions are valid; your contributions are valued. Beyond valued: necessary,"Dalesio said.
  • Alden Library at Ohio University also independently hosted an Art+Feminism edit-a-thon on March 22. Check out theevent page for more details.Outcomes included editing 27 articles, including the creation of a new one.
"We will be encouraging participants to use our collections to create and strengthen articles, and Library volunteers will be available help them do this effectively. In doing so, we hope to encourage participants to move beyond the role of information consumer, and to consider how they can enrich the information landscape—and maybe leave the internet a better place than they found it," Jennings stated.

Great work on cleaning up theOlga Speranskaya article and providing much needed references. Your edits improved the article out of all recognition to what it was. Well done!Akld guy (talk)07:17, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

consistency

[edit]

I recently re-read your comments atWikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of celebrities who have had an abortion. Then I saw you recentlycontributed toList of converts to Christianity from Islam.

You argued for deletion ofList of celebrities who have had an abortion. If I understood your position there, you claimed that the list had to be deleted because being listed there represented a danger to the women who had come forward, and outed themselves as having an abortion.

Well, aren't former muslims who openly out themselves as converts to Christianity exposing themselves to a highly comparable risk? I don't thinkList of converts to Christianity from Islam should be deleted, but I didn't thinkList of celebrities who have had an abortion should be deleted either.Geo Swan (talk)03:28, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ohio Wikimedians User Group: May 2020 newsletter

[edit]

General Updates

I hope this message finds you well and in good health during these trying times. Below is a list of some online activities that you may be interested in participating in.

  • TheWiki Global Check In has started! This initiative is gathering check-ins from Wikimedians all around the world, and asks for a photo that captures something related to life in your context or part of the world during the pandemic.
  • WALRUS (Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States) is now hostingvirtual meetings twice a month on Monday evenings. This is a place to discuss anything Wikimedia, as well as a place for Wikimedians to come together and mutually support each other. The next virtual meeting should be on Memorial Day, May 25th. You can sign up for theWikimediaus-l mailing list to stay up to date on all WALRUS happenings and to receive meeting invites.
  • Wikipedians have been busy documenting the pandemic. In Ohio, we have articles on the pandemicin Ohio and inColumbus (the latter of which was written by our newest Ohio Wikimedians member,!). If interested, you're encouraged to help update and expand these articles, or even consider creating articles documenting the pandemic in other Ohio metro areas.
View of Florence from San Miniato byThomas Cole, an American painter who once settled in Steubenville, Ohio, and won third-place in a competition to design theOhio Statehouse. This painting isin the Cleveland Museum of Art's collection.
  • If you miss visiting your local museums, don't forget that the Cleveland Museum of Art's entire collection isavailable online and in the public domain (when permissible). OurWikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art is currently tracking 44 English Wikipedia articles and 40,322 images, which are now acquiring over 2,000,000 views a month. If you're interested in contributing, there is still plenty of work to be done to expand and create new articles!

Movement Strategy

  • Thefinalized Movement Strategy Recommendations have been published! This is a clarified and refined version of the recommendations that were released in January.
  • TheWikimedia Summit 2020 that was to occur in April was canceled, and Wikimedia Deutschland will not be hosting a virtual replacement. In its stead, Ryan Merkley, members of the movement strategy core team, and external consultants are exploring options to move the contents of the conference into a series of virtual events.

Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia

[edit]

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (andUser:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).

The survey is accessible through theLINK HERE.

2025 Update from Women in Green

[edit]

Hello LovelyLillith:

2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was forWikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed aroundwomen's history and another onwomen around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!

For 2025 we havea new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on ourHot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself toour Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!

This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!

If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out thereviewing instructions andguidelines and feel free to ask for amentor to check your work.

We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free tosign up at the eventbrite page; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on theproject talk page for updates as the event progresses.

We hope to see you there!
