Help me

check-markThishelp request has been answered. If you need more help, you canask another question on your talk page, contact the responding user(s) directly on theiruser talk page, or consider visiting theTeahouse.

Can anyone give me help using named references on Wikipedia? I can t find a useful help page. Infact

Can anyone give me help using help on Wikipedia?) Many references (eg needs citation template) point to archaic references kept for reference, rather than helpful content. Wd it be possible to do something like (shudder) transclude a template into old pages, so moveing them into a different category so they don t turn up in search by default.? And the most useful tags like needs citation template or the whole "multiple issues " box, are not summarised AFAICS. Where are they? Ta.— Precedingunsigned comment added byJabberwoch (talkcontribs)

For your first question, seeHelp:Referencing for beginners#Same reference used more than once. Your second question is a large one, and I will leave the "helpme" to see if anyone else has ideas. There are lists of warning templates atWP:WARN, and maintenance templates atWP:TC. You can find out about a particular template by typing "Template:" followed by its name into the search box, e.g. "Template:Multiple issues".JohnCD (talk)09:42, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Our help pages indeed are something of a challenge, but usually helpful redirects exist. For example, I'd guess thatWP:Maintenance templates will point somewhere, as willWP:Named reference (and I only checked that those redirects indeed exist and point to helpful pages after guessing them). There's alsoWP:Help, which provides a general overview of help pages, including links to the more specificHelp:Contents/Browse andHelp:Contents/Directory.Huon (talk)17:17, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve reverted your[citation needed] edit. Detail on the Talkpage those areas where this FA needs additional citations.KJP1 (talk)22:01, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear kjp1,

May i suggest that “_Please _Detail on the Talkpage those areas where this FA needs additional citations.” would be less brusque, and more polite. I thought it was obvious which paragraphs were devoid of reference.Jabberwoch (talk)22:38, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not remotely “obvious” to me, but see Talk.KJP1 (talk)06:59, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yes,I edited in visual editor but there was some problem so had to switch to source editing. it didn’t show up in the edit summary - too small a screen. It did show up post edit, but when I searched for it I couldn’t find it, either a caching problem or i assumed someone had corrected it.
No one is going to revert it are they,, that’s against WP policy? :-)Jabberwoch (talk)09:23, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can't tell if that's a joke. I chose to fix your errors, but any editor might easily have chosen to revert them, because you broke an image and left a mess under "Classification" which damaged page readability. No worries, just giving you a heads up.Jessicapierce (talk)15:15, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Jessica,
thank you, sorry. I think I confused a previous revert alert which I’d already seen, but not acknowledged. So, I thought you’d reverted the edit.
Thank you for NOT reverting it, and being constructive. I’ve had too many edits where someone has disagreed or disliked it, and thrown the baby out with the bath water.
Yours Jabberingly😄Jabberwoch (talk)02:29, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Adding spam sources and unsourced information

[edit]

You've been here since 2008, please don't add obvious non-expert spam (possibly AI generated)content farm] websites likehttps://studypress.blog/ , as you did inthis edit. The source doesn't even mention 1907, so this was literally just completely unsourced information you added to the article, and I can't find a source for the 1907 claim. If you continue to add low quality garbage content additions like this I will report you to ANI.Hemiauchenia (talk)20:48, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

According toAcross Atlantic Ice: The Origin of America's Clovis Culture p. 2 McJunkin found remains at Blackwater Draw in 1908, not 1907, and he only found bones, not stone tools, so your addition appears to be completely baseless.Hemiauchenia (talk)21:29, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
:Alright, keep your hair on! They’re good faith edits. I was trying to credit McJunkin , I think he is actually mentioned in the Billings introduction. IIRC the source I looked at pointed out the notification date was in 1908 but the _initial discovery_ was earlier. That was in another reference. I thought it was National Geographic, but I can’t remember. However: I may have confused McJunkin and Whitman.

Good point about fossils not tools.Jabberwoch (talk)22:52, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
