Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill move review

[edit]

Kia ora Innotata,

I noticed that you originally closed the requested move forOne Tree Hill to be renamedMaungakiekie / One Tree Hill. I'd like to have this decision reviewed, as the new name with a slash is in keeping with the official gazetted place name in theNZGB Gazetteer and is also included on BGN as per one of the comments in the original discussion. As there is also precedent for this with pages such asAoraki / Mount Cook orWhakaari/White Island, I think a renaming of the article to reflect the official name of Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill would be worthwhile. The guidelines for a move review suggest getting in touch with the person who originally closed the discussion, so that's why I've reached out to you. Apologies if this isn't the right location!

Cheers,Turnagra (talk)01:44, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Turnagra: I suggest simply starting a new move request! I think my close of the request was proper - it simply reflected that there had been consensus against the move from those who commented in the extended window for the move request, without any judgment as to the merits - and my understanding is that is what a move review would look at. Old move requests do not preclude a new request being made especially after a substantial amount of time, and especially with a different, potentially better case being made, or if the facts have changed. —innotata12:55, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove my edit from Passer Predomesticus?— Precedingunsigned comment added byFirekong1 (talkcontribs)17:52, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Firekong1: I didn't remove it, I changed it to something that is actually verifiably true from the sources. I appreciate the need to be more clear about why thehispaniolensis photo is included, but Wikipedia articles can't containoriginal research, and here that isn't needed. And I gave the reason in the edit summary - please check these, and use edit summaries yourself. Thanks, —innotata17:43, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nepal

[edit]

UN has changed official name of Nepal. According to the UNTERM[1] Nepal has only short name since december 2020 ("Pursuant to the note verbale dated 16 November 2020 from the Permanent Mission of Nepal addressed to the United Nations and all permanent and observer missions, the country name was changed from "Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal" to "Nepal". Effective date: 14 December 2020 (date of communication from the Protocol and Liaison Service)").Aotearoa (talk)15:19, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aotearoa: I just assumed the Protocol and Liaison Service master document is kept current. If that's the case, the article shouldn't say "Nepal, officially Nepal", that sounds absurd, the meaning isn't immediately obvious, and this isn't done with other countries with only a short form name (example I gave wasCanada), and the infobox should be modified as well as the lead sentence. And if you knew this you probably should have mentioned it when editing the article.
(Also would perhaps be useful for the coverage of the name of the country in the article body to note that the name "Federal Republic" had been in use, particularly as there isn't an article specifically on the name of Nepal.)
And in the future, maybe bring topics like this up in an article talk page? —innotata21:17, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again

[edit]

I was wondering if I could add what I added about passer predomesticus back. There are several articles pertaining to animals here that reference animals resembling each other.

Evidence/Proof:

Passer Predomsesticus was simply a sparrow, so why wouldn't it resemble its relatives?

I apologize if this message sounds silly, I'm just curious about your response. I've been waiting to ask you for about a year, but I could not bring myself to do so until now.Firekong1 (talk)00:27, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Firekong1: Please readWikipedia:No original research. I don't know/remember exactly what you want to change, but the answer is probably no, not on Wikipedia. Those articles either have sources specifically making those comparisons, or have sections that probably should be removed. —innotata01:26, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. Most of them don't have sources, but rather point out obvious similarities, so I don't see what the problem is. I'm not trying to vandalize or start an edit war, you have my word. I simply would like to know whether or not re-adding it would be allowed or forbidden according to an admin such as yourself.Firekong1 (talk)13:59, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Firekong1:

I'm not an admin. However,No original research is a policy, and I suggest you read it more closely. —innotata00:37, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. That's what I was doing as well. I figured that it wouldn't be harmful because the sparrows are simply ancestor and descendant, so there wouldn't be much difference in appearance. Of course, what I did was not "no original research", but I understand what you're saying.Firekong1 (talk)00:48, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A short message

[edit]

Greetings. This might be my last message here. I came to ask you for help with my mistakes so I may learn from them and grow as a wikipedia. You'll understand what I mean when you read what I posted below:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Passer_predomesticus

I apologize if it seems like spam. I simply just wish to learn how to better myself, but there's no one to help me. I would also like to apologize if my behavior seemed childish to you. I hope we can become well acquainted and coexist as fellow wikipedians.Firekong1 (talk)12:00, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pale blue flycatcher Zootaxa source

[edit]

@Innotata: Hello! I've began researching thePale blue flycatcher to bring it to GA status. There is one problem; I do not have access tothis source that you added back in 2011 byZootaxa. It would be great if you could kindly email me the source if you still have access to it, though I understand if you're uncomfortable emailing someone. Could you at least tell what the source contains about the topic? If it is minimal about the Pale blue flycatcher, then I do not need the source. Welcome back

[edit]

I see that your access issue has been magicallyhandled.Shyamal (talk)12:41, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I indeed made a request at UTRS (and not the first). It's been quite a long time of having some species of issue; I'm still worried about running afoul of the rule to not use proxies going forward, since after all my home IP address was counted as one in the first place.
And I really have to question how sensible and just a system is that blocks the bulk of entire countries and one of the United States' largest mobile carriers. The instructions are confusing tome never mind the average person blocked.
So much has changed since I was last (significantly) active on Wikipedia that I don't know what to update anyone on or ask about. I would like to return to substantially writing nature articles at some point, however it might take a while. But thanks again —innotata14:30, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today forRusset Sparrow, introduced (in 2010): "I believe that after several rounds of reviewing, this article now meets the FA criteria. Unlike the subjects of most existing bird FAs, the subject of this article is neither highly common in the English-speaking country (eg, American Goldfinch) nor rare (eg, Golden White-eye). It is however, well-known enough for this article to go into detail, to the extent that this is certainly the most detailed account of this bird in existence." --Gerda Arendt (talk)06:13, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

File:MelanerpesPulcherSmit cleaned.png

[edit]

File:MelanerpesPulcherSmit cleaned.png, which you created, has some strange markup, viz:

''<nowiki>{{Information |Description='''' = ''[[]] [[]]'' {{en|1=}} |Source=''[[Catalogue of the birds in the British Museum]]'' ([https://archive.org/details/catalogueofbirds18brit Vol. 18] Plate ) |Date=1890 |Author=Peter Smit (</nowiki>''

The nowiki markup is in the original. Would you kindly clean this up?

Also, there are two other files you created that have similar strange markup:File:CBBM18 552 Nesoctites micromegas.png andFile:Meiglyptes tristis head.png. Would you clean these up as well? —Anomalocaris (talk)07:10, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Anomalocaris: that was added per standard practice, using a semi-automated upload tool, and is supposed to be there to preserve the log of the original upload on Wikimedia Commons for ordinary contributors viewing the file description page. I don't see how it causes any problems, or why it would be allowed, much less desirable, to remove it. —innotata12:18, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If it is standard, why are there only three results forthis regex search? —Anomalocaris (talk)17:12, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Anomalocaris: Because this represents what the original log on Wikimedia Commons was. That should be obvious on first sight. And only that contributor initially left the description blank in that way when uploading any original files that were later transferred to Wikipedia (these are rare in the first place, unlike the reverse). Anyway, I cannot see a problem necessitating any action here. Leave it alone. —innotata17:26, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not trying to be a pest. I was responding toWikipedia:Linter#Other errors, which lists'''' as a likely error, and has a Regex search link to find it. That markupis an error inFile:MelanerpesPulcherSmit cleaned.png. It might be a necessary error, but it's an error, caused by the combination of someone leaving a field blank that should not have been left blank, and software that outputs crappy markup when the user leaves the field blank, followed by the theory that it's somehow helpful to meticulously transcribe markup from Wikimedia Commons, without the slightest hint that in fact the item was taken from Wikimedia Commons, which is actually more useful than transcribing the original erroneous markup. Shrug. —Anomalocaris (talk)22:32, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Where does it say that the original uploader comment needs to be added? Please point me to the guideline on en.wiki please.Gonnym (talk)14:33, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
