Thanks for uploading or contributing toFile:Nanosaur2Screenshot2.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used undernon-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go tothe file description page, and edit it to include anon-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make arequest for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Dear HereToHelp,
My name is Jonathan Obaruser:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk)— Precedingunsigned comment added byChlopeck (talk •contribs)22:48, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, many rumors have it that the "iPad 3" might be released tomorrow. I have started a document on my computer for it inWord. But when it was released I want to upload it instantly. But I am unable to, because you have created a redirect from the page so I cant edit it. It can currently only be edited by admins. It would be great if you could make this page, "semi-protected", so when it is released tomorrow I can put up the article that second. Thank you.--DreamFieldArts11:23, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to the first issue of theHelp Project newsletter! This is a new monthly initiative to keep project members and the wider community informed about our work to improve Wikipedia's help pages. Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome atWikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. I've initially sent this to all existing members of the project, if you don't wish to receive the newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit theparticipants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name. Issue II - June 2012

Hello from theHelp Project, and welcome to the second issue of our newsletter! The biggest project I've been working on this month has been a large survey of users to find out what they think of our current help pages.Preliminary results from this are now available, although there are more responses trickling in from the lower edit count groups since a batch of email invitations were recently sent out. Finalised results and further analysis should be posted next week. Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome atWikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit theparticipants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name. |

Issue III - August 2012 | |

Welcome to the (slightly delayed) third issue of theHelp Project newsletter. The past month has once again been a busy one for my fellowship. The fullresults and conclusions from the extensive user survey on help pages are now available, and make interesting reading. These do confirm a number of our suspicions about Wikipedia help, and suggest that thecurrent plan for the remainder of the fellowship is a sound approach. Also last month I was fortunate enough to attend Wikimania 2012 in Washington DC, where I gave a presentation about help pages and the aforementioned survey results. You can find the slides from thison Commons. Wikimania was also a great opportunity for many discussions with staff and community members, and these brought up some interesting ideas which I hope to follow up on. One of the things much discussed was the planned tutorial pages. I've been working on a new design for them which can be seen atUser:The wub/sandbox/1, please let me know what you think (especially if you spot any bugs!). Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome atWikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit theparticipants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name. |

Issue IV - September 2012

Hi, and welcome to the fourth issue of theHelp Project newsletter. It's been another busy month in the world of Wikipedia help. Theresults from the in-person usability tests conducted as part of the help pages fellowship have been released. There are no great surprises here, the tests confirmed that people have trouble with the existing help system, and people looking for help on the same topic often end up at wildly different pages. Editors who experienced a tutorial and/or edited a sandbox as part of their learning were noticeably more confident when editing a real article. Drawing on that, three new "Introduction to" tutorials for new users have been created:referencing, uploading images andnavigating Wikipedia. These join the popular existing introductions topolicies and guidelines andtalk pages. Feel free to edit them, but please do remember that the idea is to keep them simple and as free from extraneous details as possible. All three have been added toHelp:Getting started, which is intended to be the new focal point for new editors, and will also be seeing a redesign soon. In other news, theArticle Feedback Tool (AFT) can now be used to collect feedback on help pages. By default it has been deployed to all pages in the Help: namespace. It can be disabled on any page by addingCategory:Article Feedback Blacklist, or enabled for pages in other namespaces by addingCategory:Article Feedback 5 Additional Articles. Once a page has AFT applied, you can add feedback using the form which appears at the bottom of it. Feedback can be reviewed by clicking "View feedback" in the sidebar, or the "Feedback from my watched pages" link at the top of your watchlist. I'm now entering the final month of my fellowship, and will be focusing my efforts on making much needed improvements toHelp:Contents, the main entrance point to our help system. It's been a pleasure working as a fellow, and I just want to thank all the people who have helped me or offered advice over the past months. That definitely won't be the end of my involvement in the Help Project though, I'll be sticking around as a volunteer and continuing to write this newsletter. Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome atWikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit theparticipants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name. |

Hello again from theHelp Project! In the last newsletter (which was quite a while ago sorry!) I talked about my fellowship and the plans for improving the main portal page,Help:Contents. Well I'm sad to say that my fellowship is now over, but very happy to say that the proposed improvements to that page have been completed and implemented. Do check it out if you haven't already. Another important and frequently used help page,Wikipedia:Contact us, has also seen a significant revamp. You may recognise the design inspiration from thenew tutorial pages. In project news, we now have a subscription to the "article alerts" service. Any deletion nominations, move discussions, or requests for comments on pages within the Help Project's scope will now show up atWikipedia:Help Project/Article alerts. So that's definitely a page which project members might want to watch. Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome atWikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. I just wanted to make you aware ofthis discussion I started atWinter storm naming. I have no intentions of making any changes to the article myself, but was just hoping to get input from editors previously involved in the article (or recently-closed AfD) in an effort to improve the article and clarify its purpose. I will leave any changes to the consensus of other editors who decide what's best. Your participation would be welcome, regardless of your views on the issue. Open Help Conference TheOpen Help Conference will be taking place June 15-19 in Cincinnati Ohio, USA. The conference includes two days of presentations and open discussions, followed by team "sprints" - collaborative efforts to write and improve documentation. It has been suggested to send a team from Wikipedia/Wikimedia: to share our own knowledge about help, learn from others in the open source community working on similar problems, and to carry out a sprint to improve some aspect of Wikipedia's help. There may be support available for volunteers to attend from theParticipation Support program (andyour editor is certainly hoping to be there!) Please join thediscussion in Meta's IdeaLab if you're interested, and/or have suggestions about what we could work on. | Other news

Hello, HereToHelp. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned"extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created followingthis community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016,a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please reviewthe protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators'mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello,
Please note thatTOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on yourpreferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see thedeveloping help page for additional information.Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to thethread on the administrators' noticeboard.MediaWiki message delivery (talk)20:32, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi HereToHelp.
A new user group,New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin atPERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are availablehere but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us atWT:NPR.(Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk)13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HereToHelp,
You've been identified either as a previous member of the project, an active editor on Apple related pages, a bearer of Apple related userboxes, or just a hoopy frood.
WikiProject Apple Inc. has unexpectedly quit, because an error type "unknown" occured. Editors must restart it! If you are interested, readthe project page and sign up as a member. There's something for everyone to do, such as welcoming, sourcing, writing, copy editing, gnoming, proofreading, or feedback — but no pressure. Do what you do, but let's coordinate and stay in touch.
See the full welcome message on the talk page, or join the new IRC channel on irc.freenode.net named#wikipedia-en-appleincconnect. Please join, speak, and idle, and someone will read and reply.
Please spread the word, and join or unsubscribe atthe subscription page.
Portal:Nuclear technology/Intro, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated fordeletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments atWikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Nuclear technology/Intro and please be sure tosign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content ofPortal:Nuclear technology/Intro during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you.Legacypac (talk)08:03, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Establishedpolicy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available atWikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request atthe bureaucrats' noticeboard.
Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89bot00:04, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they arerequired to "have strong passwords andfollow appropriate personal security practices." We haveupdated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular,two-factor authentication remains anoptional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron1159821:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,HereToHelp! Since you are listed as anactive member of the United States Presidents WikiProject, would you mind leaving a comment at aproject talk page discussion about a series of templates that I created for the presidencies ofLyndon B. Johnson,Richard Nixon,Gerald Ford,Jimmy Carter,Ronald Reagan,George H. W. Bush, andGeorge W. Bush? Another editor and myself disagree about whether there should be a separate navigation template for each Presidency apart from the biographical navigation template. Thanks! --CommonKnowledgeCreator (talk)21:45, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
