Hello, someone using your name and Wikipedia profile approached my company offering to secure our page with an editing lock for a fee. Are you the individual we're speaking to? Thank you.Steve.iska (talk)18:06, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No.Ghmyrtle (talk)15:16, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of this, thought I'd also let you know a Wikipedia article creation company recently claimed (off-wiki) that you were working for them (which is obviously not true). I suppose you could take that as a rather unfortunate compliment, thatscammers companies are using you as a selling point.GoldRomean (talk)04:37, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Trixie Smith

[edit]

Hi, hope you are keeping well. I am looking a little deeper into this lady's history and see that Wikipedia has her born somewhere between 1885 and 1895. It appears thatBARE favours 1888 - is that so ? It is just that most online stuff I have come across regularly states 1895, which would align with her moving to New York around the age of 20 (in 1915) and her dying in 1943 at the age of 48.Colin Larkin gives 1895 in hisGuinness Who's Who of Blues. One online site is more specific, stating she was born on Sunday June 23, 1895here. That source seems reliable on face value. I know you are not around much here these days and I do not want to tax you too much but, as ever, your thoughts are welcomed. I am a lttle worried too about Martin Evans' absence from Wiki for almost two weeks - maybe he is simply on holiday ? Cheers. -Derek R Bullamore (talk)18:15, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The 1888 year inBARE apparently derives from her age being given as 52 in the 1940 US Census, although the writers note (in a footnote, p.527) that she was "reportedly born in Atlanta, 1895.". I think the reference that gives the date of June 23 is rather dubious - it says the date "is celebrated as" her birth date, but I believe that sites like that sometimes select a random date to "celebrate" someone's life when the exact date is unknown. So... we don't know!Ghmyrtle (talk)22:34, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Al Gaines

[edit]

Greetings. I would be happy to have help with this subject. I haven't accessed newspaper archives, but based on the sources I found I think Al / Albert Gaines was a Cuban trapeze and tightrope performer who also managed and hekped organize various revues? Any help appreciated. He was part of Gaines Brothers? Due to the name I can't tell if there was another person who wasn't the Cuban but was also in the industry. Thanks for any assistance and for past help! Much appreciated.FloridaArmy (talk)23:54, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are several references to Gaines in the bookRagged But Right by Lynn Abbott and Doug Seroff, which I have, but have not yet read through. I'll do some more research when I can, and will edit your draft article when I find anything.Ghmyrtle (talk)11:41, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I've now added to the draft text. Incidentally, I believe that "Cuban acrobatics" was a specific style, rather than implying that the acrobats came from Cuba - but I could be wrong.Ghmyrtle (talk)18:01, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
