Question fromSpeakerGenderball1 (20:34, 26 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I made this account because I noticed that in the energy in Country pages, there seems to consistently appear a graph from OurWorldInData that shows the Primary energy consumption of the country, but instead of being Primary Energy its Primary Energy using the substitution method. Since this seems to be a policy decision I would like to figure out why it was done, and possibly argue against it because it replaces an actual statistic with one modified by an estimate. --SpeakerGenderball1 (talk)20:34, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I recommend bringing it up on the Talk pages for the articles in question. That sounds like a good topic to raise and discuss with other editors. Those Talk pages are designed for this kind of collaboration. Let me know if you need any assistance. Welcome! —Ganesha811 (talk)16:00, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromScribe&King (15:16, 27 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello Mentor, how do I create links and go about citations --Scribe&King (talk)15:16, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome! Check outHelp:Introduction - that'll walk you through the basics of how to edit and contribute. —Ganesha811 (talk)16:01, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromSainz.55 (13:44, 29 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi! If I'm editing, for instance, a Racing Driver's Wins, to fix the number (for instance from 5 to 4), what should I say in the edit log? The championship page is cited already. --Sainz.55 (talk)13:44, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If the source reflects the correct number, then you can just say "fixing to match source" or "adjusting per reliable source", something along those lines. —Ganesha811 (talk)14:12, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromSainz.55 (16:38, 30 October 2025)

[edit]

So, Formula One Driver Carlos Sainz' full name is extremely long, 18 words long in fact. The birth name section uses a version with only five words. should i edit this? --Sainz.55 (talk)16:38, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like there's a note [a] which gives his full name in that infobox section for birth name, so I don't think any change is needed. —Ganesha811 (talk)03:27, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Ganesha811. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have atemporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects theautoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. OnSpecial:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should useSpecial:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access isgenerally not allowed (e.g.~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward3RR, but notHey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • SeeWikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via theUser Info card, available inPreferences →Appearance →Advanced options →TickEnable theuser info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly,Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Question fromIbrahill12 onUser talk:SD6-Agent (02:24, 1 November 2025)

[edit]

The label ‘Mandinka people’ is a broad generalization often applied to many Mande-speaking groups across West Africa, even though these groups may be culturally, linguistically, and genetically distinct. The term ‘Mandinka’ is primarily used by the Senegambian Mandinka to describe themselves. The Mandinka language spoken in the Senegambia region belongs to the Western branch of the Manding subgroup of the Mande language family and is more closely related to Khassonké than to Malinke languages spoken in Mali and Guinea. Both Senegambian Mandinka and Malinke trace their origins to the broader Manding family, but their languages, cultures, and genetic makeup have completely diverged significantly where they can be considered two different ethnic groups. Other Mande-speaking groups in Mali, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire typically refer to themselves as Malinke, Maninka, Mandingo, or Dioula, and speak languages in the Manding branch distinct from Senegambian Mandinka. Gambian Mandinka are culturally, historically, and genetically closer to neighboring Senegambian groups such as Wolof, Serer, and Bainouk than to Malinke. Cultural practices including marriage rites, musical instruments such as the kutiro drum, ritual practices like the Kankourang, and traditional foods are unique to the Senegambia region and are not found among Malinke populations in the Mande heartlands. Unlike Fula subgroups, which maintain a shared cultural core across different regions, Senegagambian Mandinka and Malinke are distinct peoples genetically with minimal cultural overlap. It's been pointed out to me that I rather foolishly accidentally voted twice on this AfD. I did notice that, yeah - I assumed you meant your 'redirect' comment to supersede your previous 'delete' !vote, and thus ignored the latter. Thanks for bringing it up. —Ganesha811 (talk)03:56, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromLopsd (15:45, 14 November 2025)

[edit]

Hey Ganesha811, I've been taking an interest in actors and performers. I've seen a draft on an actor who appears to be in the new Jamie Foxx movie, so I've been trying to help it get approved, but I'm pretty new here so I don't know if its extremely strong yet. Do you mind looking into it and seeing what you or I can do to help the subject get approved? Subject:Draft:McKinzie Scott --Lopsd (talk)15:45, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It looks in decent shape. Some of his listed roles are very minor, so you might want to read overWP:NACTOR to make sure he qualifies as having had significant roles. You can also ask at the noticeboard for living persons,Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard or at theTeahouse if you're not sure. In the meantime, I see the article is waiting for a reviewer, so an experienced editor will be taking a look at it then; it can be a little while to get reviewed, so be patient. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! —Ganesha811 (talk)16:24, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromBoyosoap (14:35, 17 November 2025)

[edit]

Hello Ganesha,I'm wondering how to know when my draft is ready for publishing. Is it based on amount of secondary reliable sources? If so, what amount? Is there a way to reckon a specific amount before I consider publishing?

I've also been struggling to use some of the tools some other users use to gather references because they're subscription based. --Boyosoap (talk)14:35, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Notability is tricky. It looks like you got some good advice at the Teahouse. If you're having trouble accessing a resource or source, you could ask atWP:Resource request and editors will help you out with getting access. Basically, your draft is ready to publish when you are convinced it is well-written and meets the notability standard - in this case, probably eitherWP:GNG orWP:NACADEMIC. There's no specific amount of sources required, but a good rule of thumb is 3-4 secondary, reliable sources that cover Seligman or his work in depth (i.e. more than a mere mention). I'm happy to answer further questions - and welcome to Wikipedia! —Ganesha811 (talk)15:17, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.RegardsAndreas --Andreasrocha (talk)09:34, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andreas!
I am not Ganesha, but I think I can answer your question. You can create a drafthere. After that, you should be able to click "submit draft for review" at the top of the page in the header. If you need any other clarification, let me know! Good luck and rock on!

Hello!ArkadenBoden has answered your question very ably - I just wanted to also mention that you should take a look at theWP:Plain and simple COI guide. [edit]

Do you think Alan Albern Block deserves a wikipedia page?Ive started a draft for one. --Jonathanallor (talk)10:18, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! That depends on if block isnotable or not. Wikipedia's "general notability guideline" says that someone is probably notable if they are covered in-depth in multiple independent, reliable sources. Can you find those for Block? Are there books about Block, or in-depth newspaper or academic articles? Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! —Ganesha811 (talk)13:47, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the other day I translated "Secure by design" to Spanish but when I searched it this morning it says that it was deleted. Can you tell me why or how to restore it please? It is a good translation I didn't add anything just straight translation to Spanish. Thank you. --Sanchezdelrio (talk)09:39, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromLopsd (00:44, 26 November 2025)

[edit]

Hey Ganesha811,

I was wondering how do I become a Wikipedia AFC reviewer? I see so many ads to apply but I have no idea how. --Lopsd (talk)00:44, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You can follow the instructions and guidelines written here:Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. However, you should know that you will need more experience before becoming an AfC reviewer. Your account is required to be at least 90 days old, and to have contributed 500 edits to articles. I recommend waiting for even longer than that to make sure you thoroughly understand our policies and guidelines before applying. It's a great role, and we'd appreciate you volunteering, but be patient and enjoy contributing to articles yourself before beginning to review them. —Ganesha811 (talk)11:56, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question fromQuietcounterpoint (19:16, 26 November 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ganesha811! You've been assigned as my mentor. :)

I've created a few edits and am starting a page about my work as a classical music composer. My edits right now pertain to work related to me, and I've been noting conflicts of interest. I'm being careful to ensure the sources are independent vs anyone's personal website.

If you happen to have time in the next few weeks to see if I'm approaching this in the right way, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you --Quietcounterpoint (talk)19:16, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! So far you are doing great, and I appreciate you disclosing your COI. You could also put a COI notice on your own user page (here); follow the instructions atTemplate:User COI. I'm happy to help if needed. I would note that while updating titles of works you composed or noting adaptations is productive, writing a neutral, high-quality article about yourself (as you are drafting in the sandbox) is very tough and I wouldn't recommend it. If you are indeednotable, then someone else will come along and create the article at some point. It'd be great to have your contributions on other topics you're interested in that you don't have a COI for, perhaps modern classical music or choral works in general. There's lots of friendly editors working in that space. —Ganesha811 (talk)19:36, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
