How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an adminwill still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working onbetter tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you canread more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you cansubscribe tothe weekly technical newsletter.

We havetwo suggested ways this identity could work.We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You canlet us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Great paper

I really likedyour paper. It was a shame I missed it when it first came out, but glad I was alerted to it byUser:Atsme at the badpersons blog forum. To be honest, I think it may be my favorite work ever written about Wikipedia as a phenomenon.

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of ourAFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template{{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to{{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss atWT:AFC. Stop on by, maybereview a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Your draft article,Draft:Case Breakers

Hello, Gamaliel. It has been over six months since you last edited theArticles for Creation submission orDraft page you started, "Case Breakers".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopediamainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you canrequest its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing.LizRead!Talk!19:48, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Always feels a little strange to post these notices on admins' and long-time editors' talk pages. Of course, you can restore this draft if you want to return to editing it. You should be receiving 5 month reminder notices from FireflyBot but I don't see them here. The bot seems to send out reminders to only about 75% of expiring drafts by my guestimate. It focuses on drafts that go through AFC channels rather than all draft pages.
Hope you are well these days!LizRead!Talk!19:53, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: No worries! Your reminders are helpful because often I've forgotten the drafts even existed after six months. Hope things are good on your end.Gamaliel(talk)20:53, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with newactivity requirements following a successfulRequest for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Darren Wershler

Some of the content you added inthis edit atDarren Wershler has been tagged as unsourced, and I plan to remove it if it's not cited. As this dates back to before the flood, you likely won't remember much about it. Cheers,Mathglot (talk)00:38, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mathglot: You will not be surprised to learn I have no memory of this author or article! However, I'm fairly sure I used to own an older edition ofthis book, so that's likely the source if you were interested in antediluvian archaeology.Gamaliel(talk)02:16, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

100 DC Women question

Hi Gamaliel, I submitted articles to the 100 DC Women event. I used the small blue button rather than the big blue button for submission, so they didn't wind up on the visible list: Edwilda Gustava Allen Isaac and Ellen Wetherald Ahrens. Is there a way to fix/change this? I'll try my best to do it right going forward. Thanks for looking into this (if you have time).WomenArtistUpdates (talk)20:46, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@WomenArtistUpdates: Thank you for participating! The list onWikipedia:100 DC Women has to be updated manually, and I've added your articles to it just now. The Fountain tool (the blue button) keeps track of everything for the contest, the manual list on Wikipedia is just for fun.Gamaliel(talk)20:51, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just foundEllen Wetherald Ahrens' death certificate on Ancestry! I'll add it to the article tonight. I'd never heard of the Red Rose Girls before, this is all very fascinating reading, thank you.Gamaliel(talk)20:55, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Gamaliel! I see now I can just click the "edit source" button. Here's hoping you get 100 articles.WomenArtistUpdates (talk)00:04, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello hello. I hope this message finds you well.

The Wikimedia Foundation Inc. Board of Trustees election ends soon, please vote. At least one ofthe candidates is worthy of support. --MZMcBride (talk)14:31, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you can see why I did what I did

It was nothing personal towards you or the edits you made. I simply adore your work on women's biographies. I reverted because a) the current version, albeit I can agree is flawed, is the stable version and removing it wouldn't really bring attention to the issues or improve the article and b) I knew it would provide a reconnection point to start discussions on improvement and finish it this time. The edits you removed were slipped in as we opened discussions about those issues on the talk page. Even so we left the article as it was to avoid edit warring. Now, I hope we get somewhere and finally put this to rest. Thank you so much for your contributions. --ARoseWolf13:48, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ARoseWolf: Thank you for your note. Whatever our differences about procedural matters, I know we have the best interests of the article at heart. Happy holidays!

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Gamaliel!

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. —Rhododendritestalk \\18:20, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your user talk page protection

Hi,

Your user talk page has been semi-protected since 2016 by Doug Weller. Can you think of any reason why indefinite semi-protection is still necessary, if it ever was? Doug Weller could not.Politrukki (talk)15:28, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't true, see my talk page. I wonder why this editor is so concerned.Doug Wellertalk15:51, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa! Where is this hostility coming from? How did I reserve this? Please explain how your response to me specifically justified maintaining the status quo? I can be completely transparent: the idea for requesting unprotection stemmed from seeing the protection info in an edit dialog here and subscribing to the principles outlined in theWP:IPHUMAN essay.Politrukki (talk)17:28, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A good reason, I think, is that I do not wish to receive any further death threats on my user talk page. I only wish to edit quietly and unmolested, please respect that.Gamaliel(talk)15:59, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I asked to unprotect, which you did. No drama. I don't remember if I thanked you back then, but thanks.Politrukki (talk)17:42, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand your feelings as a human. I feel sorry for you.
So you must think you would still receive threats if your user talk page is unprotected. How long do you think the protection is necessary? Five years? Ten years? Forever? If someonereally, really, really would like to persistently harass you, do you think semi-protection would prevent them much?Politrukki (talk)17:31, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why should I make it easier for them? Why does this matter to you?Gamaliel(talk)17:32, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My reply Doug Weller covers this:"the idea for requesting unprotection stemmed from ... subscribing to the principles outlined in the WP:IPHUMAN essay". I would like to make editing as easy as possible to all, without causing harm to the encyclopedia or its editors.Politrukki (talk)17:46, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I treat IP editors with respect when they treat others with respect, and I believe in their right to edit Wikipedia without logging in. If they have an editing matter they wish to discuss with me, it can be done on the relevant article talk page, and I will respond there promptly and respectfully. Otherwise, I wish to be left alone by all editors, not just IP editors.Gamaliel(talk)17:58, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feminism and Folklore Fountain tool

I was wondering, Gamaliel, whether there have been any problems with the articles I have been submitting to the Fountain tool in connection withWikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/259. It has been quite some time since any of them have been processed. I have seen that other contributors have been submitting their contributions directly tothis address. It's not that I'm interested in the prizes but I think it would be useful to other contributors if they were able to cover some of those I have developed. In other words, would it help if I also submitted my articles to the central F&F site or is there a direct interface between your WiR Fountain tool and the central tallying?--Ipigott (talk)17:34, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I've been swamped with work and it's cut into my article writing and WIR time. The global organizers told me to set up a local fountain but if they are accepting en.wp articles at the global fountain maybe that's the best approach instead of the local fountain?Gamaliel(talk)18:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The global fountain does not seem to have been anything like as active as our own WiR. We appear to have created 80 of the 120 articles now listedcentrally (which also include our own). I don't know whether they will now be assessed by the other judges or to what extent they are still relying on you. None of my articles added to the global fountain since 18 March have yet been assessed. That means that 30 of the 41 I have created appear to be awaiting assessment. But I suppose everything is under control. For your information, I am not interested in any prize money or book vouchers. I have simply been interested in improving our coverage of women in folklore and have tried to abide by the rules of the contest.--Ipigott (talk)12:58, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will start assessing them on our local Fountain but I will ask for some help from WIR folks as I am swamped in real life. I'm not one of the international judges so I don't know why they aren't assessing their articles on the global Fountain.Gamaliel(talk)14:03, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't devote time to this if you have other priorities. I see that some of the fountains associated with the Indian languages already list the assessments of many competitors who have created hundreds of articles each. If you wait for a few days, those from the global English-language fountain may also have been assessed. I've also just noticed from a message on this page that the contest has now been extended until 15 April. I'm not sure how important this is to Women in Red. It certainly seem very strange to me to make an extension at this stage.--Ipigott (talk)15:00, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott Congratulations in advance! You are no doubt the winner of this ediathon.Haoreima (talk)16:03, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Haoreima: As the contest has now been extended until 15 April, there are now opportunities for you and other competitors to add more articles. As you are also a judge on the central fountain, you should also take into account that I am not interested in any prizes.--Ipigott (talk)13:46, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to report, Gamaliel, that all my articles have now been assessed. So no more worries.--Ipigott (talk)07:30, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So...

As you may have seen, I'm doing a retrospective of April Fools on Wikipedia, and next issue will start in 2016. Which means covering the whole Trump/Wales article that caused you to get raked over the coals. I've always said that whole situation was overblown, ridiculous, and a bit of a witch hunt, and I still stand by that, but, well, I feel like I should at least talk to you before I try to write anything about it, as I'd imagine it's a bit of a sore point.Adam Cuerden(talk)Has about 8.3% of allFPs. @Adam Cuerden: We pretty much agree on our view of the situation. It's just another illustration of how Wikipedia's ruling cliques are willfully ignorant and utterly impotent when it comes to coping with the weaponization of Wikipedia for political ends. We're in our second decade of Arbcom dealing with Eastern European ethnonationalism, for example.Gamaliel(talk)18:10, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Magazine writer

Hi there. I just created an article on an obscure magazine writer,Mary Newmarch Prescott. It may be the first time I added theCategory:American magazine writers. I noticed that there are a lot of people in theCategory:Magazine writers and that this category has 4 other Wikipedia language versions (so, potentially, even more biographies), but there was no Wikidata item for "magazine writer", ergo, I created this:d:Q123853167. I added it to MNP's Wikidata item, but at the moment at least, I don't have the time or inclination to add it by hand to everyone else's. Wondering if there's some easy way or tool, to expedite it? (P.S. I'm not trying to throw extra work at you... Just figured you're an expert on Wikidata things so a good person to ask.) --Rosiestep (talk)17:34, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There should be a way to automate this. I think I can add it to everyone in the en.wp language category, let me fool around with PetScan and see if I can get it to pull the names for me.Gamaliel(talk)17:55, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cool! --Rosiestep (talk)18:00, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: Success! It does work, apparently PetScan was glitchy today. I added the occupation to everyone inCategory:American magazine writers. When I get bored during the next week I'll work on the categories for the rest of the world.Gamaliel(talk)20:07, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is nowno longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improvingRfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated byHouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box atWikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and3b, initiated byBarkeep49 andUsedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated bySilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and6d, initiated byBilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated byLee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated byReaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c,21, and21b, initiated byCity of Silver,Ritchie333, andHouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated byNovem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated byKusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and16c, initiated byThebiguglyalien andSoni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at theadministrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated byBilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated bySchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated bytheleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated bySportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of theoptional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated byFemke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated byWereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated byHouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please seeWikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing!theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Hi Gamaleil,

I read AllSides description on WP:RSP and it states that no consensus was achieved, but a high confidence rating on AllSides means it is reliable because it was reviewed by experts and thus okay to use. Vox has a high confidence rating on AllSides so therefore it should be okay to use their rating on Vox's bias. Thank you.Alexysun (talk)10:21, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that we set the end date for Oct 1 GMT at midnight when the end date should have been Sept 30 at midnight GMT. I think either I needed to be an administrator to change that parameter, or I was trying to change the parameter to a time in the past. Hyper- vigilance put me in a panic. I think some of the participants were going down to the wire. I took away the big blue button for sumissions and ended the contest the old-fashioned way, by declaring it over and assigning barn stars for September. Apologies for the panicked ping. Help with authority control for DNB and NLA

Hi! So this issue with incorrect format of authority controls has happened to me more times than I can count, but today's example will suffice. I've done my research and I'm going to start an article onHawaiian Sugar Planters' Association Experiment Station. I check Wikidata to see if it already has an item; it doesn't. I checkVIAF to see if it has an item and it does. I create the Wikidata item and I add all the authority controls associated with the VIAF entry. No problem with these: VIAF, LC, ISNI, BIBSYS, J9U. But when I add DNB and NLA, they show problematic marks next to the entry. Do you know the correct format for adding DNB and NLA? Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk)16:02, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Historically, some editor always comes along and deletes my poorly-formed DNB/NLA entries, mostly recentlyMSGJ, so adding them here as they may have some tips. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk)16:03, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I occasaionally patrolCategory:Articles with faulty authority control information and when you add incorrect identifiers the articles turn up in that category. Normally if I can't see how to fix them, I will remove from Wikidata or mark them with deprecated rank, which gets them out of the error category — Martin(MSGJ · talk)18:39, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: Two wikidata user scripts that might help. You can find them both atwikidata:Wikidata:Tools/Enhance_user_interface.

  • identifierInput - This script should format the identifier's value correctly and automatically. It works for most identifiers I've encountered. You can just cut and paste the url into wikidata and the script does the rest.
  • moreIdentifiers - This one will add a little box above all the identifiers and add some checkable boxes to allow you to add other identifiers all at once based on the VIAF.

I've relied on identifierInput so much that I'm not even sure how to format this stuff manually anymore. I tried it onHawaiian Sugar Planters' Association Experiment Station(Q131146285) and it seemed to format the DNB correctly for me.Gamaliel(talk)17:34, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I never knew about those tools. I will give them a go — Martin(MSGJ · talk)18:39, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date for Charles R. Pellegrino

I'm curious as to your thoughts about including the birth date for this person using the sf-encyclopedia.comtertiary source, which itself does not have a source supporting the birth date? --Hammersoft (talk)14:44, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a birthdate from an RS.Gamaliel(talk)21:43, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How is a birthdate from a tertiary source which itself does not cite a source...reliable? --Hammersoft (talk)13:10, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a policy about tertiary sources being unreliable? I've never seen a tertiary source cite a date of birth. This source meets RS criteria and is well-regarded in the field, so I saw no issue with using it as an RS.Gamaliel(talk)13:19, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
To me, the question remains... how did they get this date? How can it be verified? There's no answer to that because we have no basis on which to confirm this. I think the birth date should be removed pending a better source to support it. --Hammersoft (talk)15:32, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There are lots of pieces of information on Wikipedia that are sourced to RS tertiary sources which don't cite their sources. This interpretation would require us to remove information from thousands of articles. I commend your insistence on good sourcing, but is there a policy based reason to remove this information? Do you have reason to doubt this is an RS?Gamaliel(talk)16:02, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it as a source because there are no sources to confirm it. I'm not going to paint with a broad paintbrush and presume that everything on that site is reliable and correct. I'm curious how, when we're having such a difficult time finding other sources for it, this site was able to come up with a birth date. So yes, in policy there is a reason to remove it, perWP:BLP. I challenge it. I doubt the veracity of it and will until there's corroborating evidence. --Hammersoft (talk)17:15, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing in BLP says anything about a tertiary source being unreliable under these circumstances. Reliable sources are not unreliable because they don't conform to my or your preferences. Since you mentioned the lack of other sources and corroborating evidence, this is no longer an issue since I checked just now found it in public records on Ancestry (not in user generated trees).Gamaliel(talk)22:39, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Burnett x2 @ VIAF x1

Hi! As you're a librarian, I thought I'd bring this to your attention; maybe you know how to deal with this. I'm doing someWP:NPP work and came acrossRichard Burnett (British pianist), whose Wikidata item didn't have any authority controls. So I checked him out on VIAF and foundthis, which includes some authority controls attributed to him as well as some attributed toRichard Burnett (Canadian writer). Clueless what steps need to be taken to split apart that VIAF. This is a low priority in the grand scheme of things, so don't feel compelled to take this on yourself. Just wanted to inform someone and I picked you. ;) Hope all is well in your neck of the woods, my friend. --Rosiestep (talk)15:26, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

Hello, Gamaliel. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have atemporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects theautoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. OnSpecial:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should useSpecial:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access isgenerally not allowed (e.g.~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward3RR, but notHey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • SeeWikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via theUser Info card, available inPreferences →Appearance →Advanced options →TickEnable theuser info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly,Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

OnLiang Xiaoyu

Noticed that you have moved the badminton player out of the primary topic and it eventually landed onLiang Xiaoyu (badminton) so that you can have the 16th century personality be at the base name. While I personally discourage primary topic takeovers like this, but it is your prerogative if you think it is ok. Even so, please clean up after yourself, and relink the badminton player article accordingly as well instead of calling it a day with a hatnote at the poet's article? I think people would be bemused and confused that the poet had time travelled andcompeted in badminton competitions in the 2000s.– robertsky (talk)07:53, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lucretia

Hi, thank you for creatingWikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by dictionary/A Biographical Dictionary of the Celebrated Women of Every Age and Country. I had a look at the redlist and the book's article on Lucretia seems to be about the ancient RomanLucretia, not the Spanish saint Lucretia. Is that correct? It must have been difficult identifying all the names because the information in the book is often minimal.TSventon (talk)19:32, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at the entry on Wikisource and you are absolutely right. I've fixed the relative Wikidata items and the wrong Lucretia should drop off the list at the next update.Gamaliel(talk)20:11, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
