Kipple

[edit]

Hi, I was under the impression that we had an article aboutkipple, the subject invented byPhilip K. Dick. I recall reading it many years ago. However, I went looking for it today (or even a single mention of it), and I could find nothing. The page in question linked above shows you deleted one version of it in 2009, but I'm not sure if that's the right one. Does that one mention PKD? If it does, I would like a copy of it for my sandbox. There's quite a bit written on this subject, and at the very least, it should be added to his biography. Thanks.Viriditas (talk)22:39, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not replying sooner. I restored the article toUser:Viriditas/Kipple so you can use it how you like. Thanks!Dominic·t18:44, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew Brown (Morven)

[edit]

Hello Dominic. Good to see you still around. I am not sure if you readThe Signpost regularly, but I noticed (sadly) the obituary for Matthew Brown (Morven) who died last year (he has not been active since 2009 so the news took time to reach Wikipedia). Not sure how well you knew him (you served together on ArbCom) but I have posted a courtesy noticehere and thought you would want to know. I am only contacting a few former arbitrators from that time, but maybe you will know better who might want to be informed. All best wishes.Carcharoth (talk)09:39, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Carcharoth: Thanks for notifying me. We never conversed all that much in a personal capacity, and didn't stay in touch since I moved on from that area of Wikipedia. But I have stayed Facebook friends with him over the years, and did see the news last year. I was so sad to hear that he had passed away. I see that we have 19 mutuals on Facebook, as well, so it seems he was still reasonable well-connected with the community. I have been around Wikipedia now for 20 years, so unfortunately it's not the first or last time. Thank you so much for letting folks know.Dominic·t20:39, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox edits, place of burial details

[edit]

Dominic, how's it going? I've done a lot of work onTony Hinkle andClinton L. Hare, and have those articles on my watchlist. I see you've made a series of edits to bio articles that appear to be related toWikipedia:Meetup/Indianapolis/CrownHillCemetery. AndWendySewHappy andCharmingmanatee59 appear to be collaborating in that effort. A couple issues here. Your edits really blew up the infobox at the Hinkle article by wrapping the preexistingTemplate:Infobox college coach insideTemplate:Infobox person. The same sort of problem happened atHarry Deane. There's probably a neater way to do this, but I don't see much value in adding a more generic infobox template just to insert the relatively arcane details of a subject's burial. Second, while reliable, published sources like an obituary may note the place of a subject's burial, it's unlikely they will note the exact section and lot of the grave. So I think in most cases, that information won't be notable for inclusion in a Wikipedia biography article. Thanks,Jweiss11 (talk)20:39, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

HiJweiss11! I am not too sure whatnotability means in this context, since that is more of a concept about whether an article subject merits inclusion. What I do know is that we were working only on notable subjects buried inCrown Hill Cemetery, which itself is a (notable) registered historic landmark frequented by tourists—and there are many guides to finding public figures in Crown Hill. The general{{infobox person}} has a parameter for the burial location and even coordinates. We were following the template's own documentation on how to nest infoboxes. The only issue I can see is that I will definitely grant you that there is not a reference in these edits. But that is like most infobox data, and it is also not a fact really in dispute, so I am wondering why you felt like it was worth reverting edits to take information out of the article?

If you want, I am happy to go back and fix the formatting. I have since learned that you need to use the "| embed = yes " parameter to not make the article's title show twice, and the box inside of a box. To me, if we had used that in articles like the Hinkle article, it looks perfect. But since you are also disputing inclusion of these facts at all, I am just ware that going back to improve these would be kicking off an edit war.Dominic·t18:48, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
