You are now apending changes reviewer!

[edit]

HiCiaPan! I've been running into you while patrolling logs and recent changes, and I happened to notice that you don't have thepending changes reviewer rights. I hope you don't mind, but I went through your contributions and I noticed that you're quite active inrecent changes patrolling and that you consistently view and undovandalism and bad faith disruption. I believe that the pending changes reviewer rights would be useful for you to have and that you'd make good use of the tools. Instead of having you formally request the rights atWP:PERM, I went ahead and just gave it to you. This user right allows you toreview edits that are pending approval on pages currently underpending changes protection and either accept the edits to make them viewable by the general public, or decline and revert them.

Please keep these things in mind regarding the tool or when you're reviewing any pending changes:

 • A list of articles with pending edits awaiting review can be viewed atSpecial:PendingChanges.
 • A list of the articles currently under pending changes protection can be viewed atSpecial:StablePages.
 • Being granted and having these rights does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you (obviously).
 • You'll generally want toaccept any pending changes that appear to be legitimate edits and are not blatant vandalism or disruption, andreject edits that are problematic or that you wouldn't accept yourself.
 • Never accept any pending changes that contain obvious and clearvandalism, blatantneutral point of view issues, copyright violations, orBLP violations.

Useful guidelines and pages for you to read:

I'm sure you'll do fine with the reviewer rights - it's a pretty straight-forward tool and it doesn't drastically change the interface that you're used to already. Nonetheless, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on myuser talk page if you run into any questions, get stuck anywhere, or if you're not sure if you should accept or revert pending changes to a page - I'll be more than be happy to help you. If you no longer want the pending changes reviewer rights, let me know and I'll be happy to remove it for you. Thank you for helping to patrol recent changes and keep Wikipedia free of disruption and vandalism - it's a very thankless job to perform and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that I appreciate it very much. Happy editing! :-D~Oshwah~(talk)(contribs)01:50, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you,Oshwah! I've been given this right in pl-wiki in 2008 but didn't use it too often. I hope en-wiki rules do not differ much, so I won't have to learn too much now.
I used to patrol Recent changed at pl-wiki some time ago, but stopped it. I do not regularly look at RC at en-wiki, either. However, I watch WP:Reference Desk and Help desk, also the Teahouse and some sections of Village pump, so I find many questions and complaints there, which often lead me to fixing (and sometimes to reverting) faulty edits.
Sometimes I also jump into Category:Pages with* or Category:Articles with* to fix references, citations etc. and quite a big part of them turn out to result from disruptive edits. I think cleaning them up may look like I am an active RC patroller. :)
Meanwhile, I did my first change accept already It was a simple but unformatted additionSpecial:Diff/988369182 inCiara Bravo, which I also edited to fit the article structure. Thanks, once again, and happy editing! --CiaPan (talk)21:47, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Well deserved! Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad. You just review and accept good-faith edits, and reject bad-faith edits, etc. You'll get used to it quick, but if you run into any questions, you know where to find me. :-) Cheers -~Oshwah~(talk)(contribs)23:18, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi!I'm sorry about yesterday. It took me a while to realize, that I can find the reasons for revert in my contributions section. I understand your decisions, and tagged my article with {cn}. I hope, that helps, and retry later.Gmac4247 (talk)12:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alas, nope,Gmac4247. That will not help, neither now nor later. Your wanted addition is your original research, so publishing of it here, at Wikipedia, would be contrary toWP:OR policy. Apart from that it is based on an unjustified claim, so it is actually not a proof, and it ends contrary to mathematical result, well-known for about thirty eight centuries. As such its chance to be accepted equals precisely zero. --CiaPan (talk)00:56, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you,IntegralPython! I really appreciate the barnstar, it means a lot for me. It's very encouraging to see my activity here serves the project well. Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)

[edit]

Hello. Although for some reason you aren't currentlysigned up as a host at the Teahouse, I recognise you've made a lot of conributions there in recent times. So I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of newGrowth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to theirUser page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - andyou'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

 • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts and other helpers if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
 • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
 • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via aYour mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our currentlist of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; UserPanini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at theTeahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked ofall mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up atGrowth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via theirPreferences.

is quite enough. --CiaPan (talk)20:15, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but you're fortunate that the OP posted his question on the help desk as well, and was directed to the article's talk page. When I see an OP asking a question at the wrong desk, my first instinct is not to delete the question, but to advise the OP of where it should be posted. In general, good faith RD contributions should not be deleted. --Viennese Waltz20:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Viennese Waltz: You see, I am not fortunate, but rather somewhat careful. When I see some kinds of request I check the author's contribution first. Well, usually I do. And so I did this time and when I saw the same has been asked in multipletimes places I decided the worst placed one can be deleted safely.
Possibly I might have added some more explanation to the edit summary, like 'duplicated at WP:HD' or at least 'asked elsewhere'. Apparently, I am not as careful as I think I am. --CiaPan (talk)07:20, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing revert onRecursive definition

[edit]

I see that you recently reverted one of my edits onRecursive definition with the reason "no consistency is necessary or even useful here". I'm a bit confused on what this means and if it's okay to add 0 back in without adding the other number, which I assume is what you were talking about, but I'm not quite sure. I'd like to understand exactly what you meant and what part of the edit you had a problem with, so that I know how to proceed.TypoEater (talk)14:02, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,TypoEater, thank you for the message! I just didn't notice I reverted your addition of zero. I focused on the additional fraction you've added. The revert comment describes precisely what I meant to do:“no consistency is necessary or even useful here” was a reply to your comment“added a number in between 0 and 1 forconsistency with the rest of the set”. IMHO adding too many non-integers, together with the word 'consistency', suggest some kind of a rule, that the example set must contain some elements between each two consecutive integers. And that is not true (having just one element different from the one mentioned in the first line of definitionand not being a successor of any other, is enough for a set to be not-minimal).
What concerns zero, I actually would like it removed, because in my 'ordinary' understanding zero is not a 'natural' number. We don't naturally say 'I have zero apples', do we? We 'naturally' count objects when we do have some, hence above zero. You can have one apple or fifteen apples, but when you don't... well, you don't have any apples. However, in mathematics we use definitions, andnatural numbers may well be defined either with or without zero, and I am not going to advocate for either convention.
Conclusion: feel free to restore your version entirely or in any part. I think I just used revert too boldly as a means of discussion – please accept my apologies and edit the part in question the way you think is best. --CiaPan (talk)14:50, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unhelpful edit onmagic square

[edit]

Inthis edit, you replaced valid templates with characters that are sometimes less useful than the templates (e.g.{{circa}}, which includes a thin space and a tooltip) and sometimes invalid (replacing − with a plain hyphen). You also made many grammatical errors. Unfortunately, the page was not on my watchlist, so subsequent edits have made it impossible to revert your edit. Please be more careful in the future. –Jonesey95 (talk)21:27, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonesey95: I'm sorry, but it's definitely not my edit in most parts. I am just en-2 Wikipedian in my opinion, and I promoted myself to en-3 only on the basis of native English speakers fellow Wikipedians. As such, and with 20 years of experience I would never dare to make changes like in the edit you link. Things I would certainly not do:
 • removal of{{About}} and{{Very long}} in the head
 • unlinking Sagrada Familia and Parker square in the second paragraph
 • adding the undescore character in a wikilink in 'Japan' section
 • replacing 'where' with 'what' in the 'India' section
 • removing valid wikilinks
 • adding 'on wards' ('onwards' was not necessary, either)
 • removing editors' names from{{cite book}}
 • removing{{Citation needed|...}} without adding a reference
 • removing a paragraph with malformed square from the 'Gardner square' section – that would definitely tempt me to dig for sources and fix the not-a-square
to mention just a few.
The only explanation I can think of is that I accidentally started editing some older version, thus reverting some changes made by other editors while addig my small improvements.
Thank you for catching and fixing this. --CiaPan (talk)09:36, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: I dig through the history and it turns out the result of my edit was a plain restoration of some old edit:
Diff between 24 November 2021 and 26 June 2025 with 229 intermediate revisions by more than 100 users
Honestly, I have no idea what the cause was, as going3+34 years back makes no sense at all!
Additionally, it is a plain revert, while my edit summary clearly states I meantadding some DAB links... --CiaPan (talk)10:34, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the template was recently nominated for deletion, but it didn't fly:Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2025_August_6#Template:Press.Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk)08:02, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,Gråbergs Gråa Sång! Nice to see you here.
I'm really happy to see my idea provedto be useful for you, too.
Well, I didn't know about thePerennial sources list article, but I am not very active editor, so I often miss new things that happen at Wikipedia (those important things, too).
As a 3-to-1 wiki-sloth/gnome hybrid I keep somewhat away from most of technical and procedural discussions and tools. That's also a reason why I don't attend deletion discussions and don't miss deleted pages, categories or templates. But now, when you brought the{{Press}}' deletion discussion to my attention, I can say I would sign on thekeep side with all four my paws had I found it alive.
Best regards! --CiaPan (talk)10:05, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
