Noticed your edit ofGlenn Davis; absolutely no complaint about it, nor any harm done, but to save you needless editing time in the future, the pipe sort is unaffected, alas, by anything after the first word of it. The purpose of the pipe sort is merely to alphabetize him correctly, after which it doesn't care. Thus, thru the marvels of computer stuff, "|Davis" is sufficient to get him listed as "Davis, /remainder of article name/". Notice for example that hestill is not listed asDavis, Glenn Woodward in the category lists, for exampleCategory:West Point graduates; it would indeed be nice, rather than the awkward listing as it stands, but I, at least, know of no way of doing that. Can you please help me in understanding how one qualifies as Italian-American? Does that imply that they have citizenship in both Italy and the U.S/Canada? Would it mean that both parents are of Italian ancestry, but a citizen of the U.S. (or vice-versa)? One parent? Or possibly just having a last last name that sounds Italian (or Italian with an American sounding name)? How many generations, or at what percentage of blood relation does it take to still be Italian-American?I am asking because there are no German-American, or Russian-American, or Brazilian-American categories, yet the Italian-American category is quite extensive.Cacophony 04:14, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)

Please use the "move" function if you want to move an article to a new location. If the move isn't possible for whatever reason, please list it onWikipedia:Requested moves. Moving articles by copy-and-paste is a bad idea, as it destroy the editing history.andy 13:02, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
"Lead," the element, rhymes with "led," the past tense and participle of "lead," the verb (which rhymes with "read" and "reed," but not "read" or "red," just to illustrate the perversity of English pronunciation and spelling), but should not be confused with it. So when you are referring to theRick Barry-led Oaks, please use the correct form. You are not alone in this, but you are a prolific writer, so a word to the wise should help avoid this problem in the future.24.126.41.116 13:01, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC) akaUser:Italo Svevo

Hey I appreciate you updating the succession boxes for Ohio State Basketball coaches. Saved me some research time as I plan on writing articles for all of them. --mmeinhart17:22, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi there. I just wanted to encourage you while you're making categories for college basketball, to please do two things: (1) follow the naming conventions inCategory:College football teams, where we try awfully hard not to use shorthand like "SFC" and "NAU" when the school's abbreviation is not well known (unlike, say, LSU or USC); and (2) link the category to a basketball category, which links to the school category. Check out any of the other categories to see how that's done. As a general rule, we don't create categories unless we have three or four players, but that's been disregarded lots of times. Anyway, thanks!--Mike Selinker08:10, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploadingImage:Bee.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so thecopyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the{{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under theGFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as{{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. SeeWikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT12:41, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Though it is hard to quantify this kind of thing, and it is to some extent a subjective judgement, I would suggest that a practice which was adopted throughtout ancient Greece, and which informed art, politics, philosophy, sports, and the military, and which is thought by a number of modern scholars to have been at the root of the "Greek miracle" deserves to be considered as having "top" importance. I am talking about Greek pederasty, of course. Is there some specific reason why you removed that label from the article?Haiduc20:53, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I reverted your above page move, but I wanted to give you the courtesy of explaining my action. As you can seehere, the format that you proposed is generally correct. However, in the same section, the guideline reads "An abbreviation of a first or last name (or omitting punctuation marks and spaces as described above) is only possible if this can be considered as a well established and generally used subject's name or nick name."
In his hometown and in the local and national media, he is refered to as "O.J." After he goes on to the NBA, this may change and a move along the lines that you proposed may indeed be prudent. For the time being, however, the article should remain named "O.J. Mayo."
That being said, thanks for your interest in the article, and keep up your excellent work on Wikipedia.youngamerican(ahoy hoy)01:01, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Please stop adding the list of players. As I said in the discussion, there is no reference provided, nor is there any explanation to the rankings. If you even took a look at the mock drafts listed on the bottom, none of them even agree outside of the top two players. Lastly, no player has even declared for the draft yet. It would be ridiculous to put up a list of players if a player may not even declare for the draft. Do not add the list again unless you provide a reasonable explanation.75.177.47.18301:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Thanks for uploading or contributing toImage:Ron_Artest_mugshot_2007.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used underfair use but there is noexplanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to theboilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be foundhere.
Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include afair use rationale. Using one of the templates atWikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. I'd like to nominateCalvin Johnson (American football) for Featured Article status, but I'd like the article expanded a little bit before I do. Since you're one of the primary editors of that article, I figured that you'd be a good one to ask. My primary concern is comprehensiveness; it needs more prose/information, especially in "Early years" and "College career". Also consult suggestions in therecent peer review, theongoing WPBIO A-class review, andthese examples of FA-Class athletes. Once the article gets a bit longer, I'll nominate it at FAC, and I hope you'll help address reviewers' suggestions. —Disavian (talk/contribs)01:22, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names downhere will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of thenext issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Your entry for "Pro-style Quarterbacks 2006" from Rivals.com was removed for several reasons. This gets into the realm of speculation on an internet service that is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. All the listings before it for Mustain are in regards to overall position titles, not something specific and speculative like "Pro-style Quarterbacks." The one you listed is for "Pro-style Quarterbacks" and is pure speculation on the internet and has no place on an encyclopedia and is not consistent with the preceding listings.Caffehamp16:41, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

There is no way of knowing what the article of a high school or football coach will be called. For example, an article for Central High School in Chicago might be calledCentral High School (Chicago, IL),Central High School (Chicago),Central High School (IL),Chicago Central High School,Central High School, Chicago, IL, to name a few. An article for a football coach named Joe Smith might be calledJoe Smith (American football coach),Joe Smith (football coach),Joe Smith (American football, or something else. Also, new articles for obscure football coaches (such as those who have only coached high school teams, of which many of these are) are rarely created. If you find that one has been added you are welcome to add a link. I kept the link toRaymond Burnett, as you specified that his article will be up soon.Iowa1321:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
I revertedNick Calathes. There are two problems with it: First, pronunciations in Wikipedia are assumed to be in English unless stated otherwise. True, people sometimes get sloppy, but this guy was born in the US, and his first name is English. Second, [kɑˈlɑʈɪs] is incorrect even as Greek. [kaˈlaθis] would be closer, and could appearafter his Greek name, though there isn't much point since it's predictable from the spelling. Do you know how people say his name in English?kwami (talk)18:07, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

{{unblock|You're right, I shouldn't have revertedUser:Allstarecho's edits atHouston Nutt that often. But asTalk:Houston Nutt#NPOV shows, I think I was right to do it. Hello Bender. I notice you superscript the suffix (th, nd, st, etc.) ofordinal numbers — perWikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Exceptions, the suffix is not supposed to be superscripted. I too think they look better superscripted, but I think it's best if we follow Wikipedia's guidelines. Thanks!BlueAg09 (Talk)01:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Speaking as a Nebraskan who knows the importance of tradition of in this program, I must ask that you stop removing Coach Osborne's place as interim head coach. The template isn't "Nebraska Head Coaches who Coached a Game" it's just coaches, and whether or not he coached a game is irrelevant. The man appointed himself interim head coach during a time of crisis, and for that he should keep his name on the template.

Bender, why in the world did you edit out that Bobby Petrino was a candidate for the Arkansas job and rule it as vandalism??? You have Petrino listed as a potential candidate for the LSU and Auburn jobs but their two coaches just signed new contracts! Those jobs are not open nor will they come open. So you can leave that and someone puts in that Petrino is rumored to be a candidate for the Arkansas job (rumor has been going around for a week) and you call it vandalism? Who are you anyway? You don't know what you are talking about.—Precedingunsigned comment added byHackerhog99 (talk •contribs)01:27, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed onJewell Wallace requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done undersection A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under thecriteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Pleasesee the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specificnotability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding{{hangon}} tothe top ofthe article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note onthe article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged forspeedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.Sting_auTalk12:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I understand you have a problem with another user's edits of the above article, but please try to keep cool while editing. You can not force other users to discuss their changes with you, and edit warring is not the solution. You have no more right than he has to edit the article, and could just as easily be blocked for your reverts as he could be for his. What he's doing may be misguided, but it's not vandalism. Also, comments such asthis one are completely unacceptable, especially when dealing with new users. Remember:There are no emergencies on Wikipedia. Relax, don't yell at other users, and eventually things will work themselves out.KafzielTalk22:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

I'veprodded the articleNotorious (2009 film) because it does not meet thenotability guidelines for future films. I encourage you to put the information about the project at the articleNotorious B.I.G. until production can begin, which is not a certainty in the film industry. Let me know if you have any issues with this tagging! —Erik (talk •contrib) -18:05, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
