Sorry if my edit has caused you some bad moments. Here's what I think about each point:

• Mentioning the color chart is important because that's the criterium that the referred source (Berlin, B and Kay, P (1969)Basic Color Terms) uses. If two color names cannot clearly refer to two different hues on a color scale, their dual nature is not accepted. There was a discussion about it because someone stated that Portuguese also uses two words for red, but they failed this criterion just because they cannot be distinguished on a color chart.
  • It wasn't clear for me that the sentence in question had to do with the citation. I'll reinsert that note.
• "piros is used for vivid red andvörös for dark red" – this is true and it was a shame to change it to the present version. This is the essence of their primary difference.
  • Well, what I think may be moreOR than encyclopedic information, but for me,vörös means vivid red, and I'd be surprised to learn that the word that is related to blood and is usually used for emotionally more charged subjects is at the same time the one which refers to theless vivid hue.
• "Children are first taught this word for "red"." - it's also important because it shows that "piros" is found in a more elementary layer of language, it reveals a lot about the concept of "red" of native speakers of Hungarian.
  • Never removed this one.
• You changed: "the use of either of the two words may be equally adequate". False. When they are in contradiction, it's not true that they can be equally adequate, becausecollocations usually prevail even if another kind of logic could be applied (it can be seen at many natural objects that "piros" could be applied better but "vörös" is used, mostly because of their fixed collocations).
  • "May be equally adequate" means "there exist cases in which they are equally adequate". This is correct. The current formulation is not suggesting that in case of a contradiction, the two arealways equally adequate. But I'll clarify that point.
• You deleted "rose-cheeked looks" although "piros arc" clearly means health and cheer but "vörös arc" usually means alcohol or heart problems.
  • Correct, but I didn't see the point in telling that to the English-speaking reader. I'd actually prefer no more than 3-5 clear-cut typical examples for the two words, and preferably ones that contain the word "red" when translated to English.
• I won't mention other examples in detail but I don't see why you mind them being there.
  • See above.
• You deleted: "Some things, including inks, lights, roses, ribbons, and tapes, can be described by either colour name." It's also important because most things (about 80-90%) can only be used with only one of the two color names and this is an exception which again reveals something important of Hungarians' cognitive schemes.
  • I deleted this because it was a verbatim duplicate of the sentence with "may be equally adequate".

In all, I was just acting perWP:BOLD - feel free to edit me mercilessly yourself. :)

1. Piccadilly Körönd may sound strange, but what aboutÖtödik sugárút? OrBarackfa utca (if you've ever readGone with the Wind) :)Keleti Railway Station is widely used in English (and if I remember well, IC trains use this version too, when greeting the passengers in English, but I may be wrong here...)
2. Also, this is one translation that cannot be really debated, the only two English expressions forpályaudvar are "train station" and "railway station" and WP seems to use the latter (see categories).
3. Actual names are always mentioned, only they are not the titles of the articles. (example: TheHungarian Parliament Building (Hungarian:Országház))
4. Following this trail of thoughts, if someone is interested in a country, they can learn all of its language. Then we needn't write here anything; if someone is interested in Hungary, they'll learn Hungarian and read HuWiki :)
5. "pályaudvar" is a common enough word, and definitely an important one.

We could begin the article this way:Keleti Railway Station (Hungarian:Keleti pályaudvar; literal translation:Eastern Railway Station)...

I left a response on the Hungarian gy talk page in which I don't challenge anything you say, you'll be pleased to know. The reason I am writing to you is to ask you something totally different as you are a Hungarian speaker. You know this French president elect - Sarkozy, I know in Hungarian it is written Sarközy, and I know how it is pronounced before the last two letters. I didn't think ZY was a combination in Hungarian and I certainly never knew "y" to stand alone, I thought it just follows certain letters to soften them. Does it soften the otherwise hard Z? (Like Polishź), and why does no pronunciation guide mention this? And would the same rule apply to your former statesman Medgyjessy ? Thank you very much Adam, you've answered my question very well. There is a strange reason I ask this: living in the UK, one thing on TV irritates me to the point that I wish to smash the television for being unable to throttle the person who has frustrated me: Francophiles and French patriots who are good at English, whenever these people speak on British television, they'll speak good English either for being British, or France (but have acquired good English pronunciation), and when they mention anything associated with France, they switch to its French pronunciation which you know is out of harmony with English and vice versa. The French will do it because of their patriotism and the English will do it just to show their talent off to the listeners. It leaves the rest of the population unable to speak French to give the word its Anglicised variation; so some newscasters say it as in English, and some like in French. A billion times these past 48 hours I've heard "Saahhrr-koz eeee" pronounced in the throat by British as well as English-speaking-French commentators. Don't expect different from the French, but if the English are following a policy where-by they want to give a word the local pronunciation (which writers and pedants oppose), then should they not attempt the Hungarian? After all, the whole shape of the name Sárközy is based on Hungarian, the French don't use umlauts and they favour /c/ over /k/. One speaks English, refers to something based on Hungarian, so French pronunciation is every bit redundant; so to anyone who knows better - given that the language's biggest influential heavyweights oppose it - they actually look more stupid than clever. Anyhow, that's that. Tell me one more thing briefly, in Hungarian do you still pronounce the final 'y' as an 'i' or can you ignore it as in Sárköz? I don't know where I should answer you, as you haven't logged in and you don't have a talk page.

Anyway, morphologically speaking, there is only one mood which can be named either way, but syntactically speaking, there is some difference:

• Azt akarták, hogy elmenjen. – They wanted him to leave ("that he should leave"). [the verbal prefix stays before the verb]
• Azt mondták: menjen el! – They said, "Go away!" [the verbal prefix follows the verb]

well to decide on the issue arising out of the article on the place of transylvania throughout history, i think the easiest way would be to refer to the local population and the change of the above between 896 and 1920. at the same time you have to take into account the motivs behind the change of this population and its ethnicity. The fact that a Rumanian kingdom was egsisting on the outside of the karpatian mountains should have no influence on the issue.at the same time there were numerous refugee influxes in hungary throughout history, because the expansion of the turk empire... after the first worldwar every single one of these refugee groups wanted to establish an independent country based on the fact that they didn't mix with the local population and lost their original one to the turks earlier, and new countries were formed on those lands after the fall of the turk empire..... the only nationality that had a country was actually the rumanian, and only in small percentage in transylvania, but they wished to join back to romania, and the romanian government wanted to establish an expansion to the west as one of the winning powers. none the less the resources of transylvania were part of the base of power for the austro-hungarian monarchy, and as that had to be taken off of it, to make sure that there is gonna be no second war against the loosing powers of the first one. so romania's request for the territory of transylvania killed two birds with one stone....—Precedingunsigned comment added by83.71.183.206 (talk)14:54, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
