Hello everyone! Patient Zero here. After over 12 years of being a Wikipedia editor, it is with a heavy heart that I announce my semi-retirement from the project. I am still around in a social context of sorts, and do contribute occasionally, so please don't hesitate to drop me a message, either on mytalk page or viaemail.
Just to reassure you all - I'm happy. Not particularlywell - my ongoing health issues have certainly caused me a great deal of stress just over this past year alone. Having to face a chronic, currently undiagnosed medical condition and constant hospital visits at just 26 years of age has not been pleasant to say the least, but I am happy, nonetheless. I started my placement as astudent teacher in October 2025, which is keeping me very busy - indeed, much too busy for Wikipedia. I've always believed in the right to free knowledge, and that the one thing nobody can take away from an individual is an education - so I really do feel that me now becoming a teacher feels rather fitting in that respect.
Hopefully, by June next year (2026), I will be qualified (providing I don't have to take any more time off for the ongoing issues, which are causing me a great deal of pain and discomfort), and might even entertain returning over the summer holidays and once I don't have the extra work involved with university studies. But for now, this is (sort of) goodbye. It's been an absolute pleasure to be a part of this project, and it always will be a huge part of me. I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who showed me the ropes and gave me advice over the years, as well as everyone who became a Wikifriend of mine during my 12 years here. It has meant so much. It's just balancing everything that is going on in my personal life means I cannot devote the time to Wikipedia that I used to be able to.
Feel free to call me PZ (or any other nickname you can think of). People often ask me why I chose my username;here is an explanation! I started editing Wikipedia as a teenager; I am now in my twenties, and am proud to say I was a (relatively active!) Wikipedia editor for over a decade prior to my semi-retirement. I'm also British, so you may see me using British English in conversation on talk pages.
I created my Wikipedia account in January 2014, but started editing more between 2015 and 2018. I then took an on-and-off wikibreak between late 2018 to mid-2021 in order to focus on my law degree (hence the gap in my contributions), before returning in 2021. I then decided to semi-retire in late 2025 due to ongoing real-life commitments.
I also used to volunteer withWikimedia UK, and so you may have seen me editing from mytraining account whenever I partook in any outreach work.
I speakseveral languages to varying degrees, and welcome correspondence in French, Spanish, or Welsh over on myfrwiki/eswiki/cywiki talk pages. This will not result in any delay in my response, as I have global notifications enabled.
