Uri Shraga Mayerfeld is aRabbi andposek in Canada. He is the currentRosh Yeshiva (headmaster) ofYeshivas Ner Yisroel of Toronto inToronto,Ontario.

Biography

Rabbi Mayerfeld was born inVineland,New Jersey. His father, Manfred Mayerfeld, was in thepoultry business and was an active member of the Vineland Jewish community.[1]

In his early years, Rabbi Mayerfeld studied inPhiladelphia Yeshiva under the tutelage of RabbiShmuel Kamenetsky and RabbiElya Svei, and inBrisk yeshiva under the tutelage of RabbiBerel Soloveitchik.[2] He also studied under RabbiShneur Kotler and RabbiNosson Wachtfogel, and receivedsmicha (rabbinic ordination) in 1971 from their yeshivaBeth Medrash Govoha ofLakewood, New Jersey.[3]

When Rabbi Mayerfeld joined theNer Yisroel faculty, he was a high schoolrebbi (religious studies teacher). He was promoted to Rosh Yeshiva after the death of the former Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Dov Gavriel Ginsburg.

Currently, Rabbi Mayerfeld is an active leader of the Toronto Jewish community. He leads adaf yomi (Talmud) class for the general public[4] and frequently speaks at public Jewish events.[5][6]
