The as of yet untitled film centered aroundJohn Lennon is an upcomingbiographical musical drama film directed bySam Mendes and written byJez Butterworth ,Peter Straughan , andJack Thorne , based onthe Beatles as part of the seriesThe Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event
Sam Mendes conceived of the idea, and discussed the concept with studio executives in late 2023. It is the first timethe Beatles have granted full life story and musical rights for official scripted biographical films.[ 1] Neal Street Productions partnerPippa Harris andNeal Street 's Julie Pastor. Jeff Jones will executive produce forApple Corps Limited .[ 2]
On May 7, 2025, it was announced thatJez Butterworth ,Peter Straughan andJack Thorne would co-write the screenplays for all four movies.[ 3]
Main actors of the Lennon film of the series: Harris Dickinson (Lennon), and Anna Sawai (Yoko Ono).
In June 2024,Harris Dickinson was in contention to play Lennon.[ 4] Anna Sawai was eyed to portrayYoko Ono in the film, with Dickinson confirmed to play Lennon.[ 5] Paul Mescal asPaul McCartney ,Barry Keoghan asRingo Starr , andJoseph Quinn asGeorge Harrison , was officially announced.[ 6] Saoirse Ronan would playLinda McCartney ,[ 7] Mia McKenna-Bruce asMaureen Starkey Tigrett ,[ 8] Anna Sawai andAimee Lou Wood in talks to portrayYoko Ono andPattie Boyd respectively.[ 9] James Norton later joined the cast asBrian Epstein .[ 10] [ 11] Harry Lloyd joined the cast asGeorge Martin in November.[ 12] David Morrissey ,Leanne Best ,Bobby Schofield , Daniel Hoffman-Gill,Arthur Darvill andAdam Pally were added to the cast.[ 13] Harry Lawtey ,Farhan Akhtar ,Lucy Boynton , andMorfydd Clark joined the cast.[ 14]
Principal photography was scheduled to begin in mid-2025.[ 15] Greig Fraser served as the cinematographer.[ 16]
Filming had begun by November 2025. It was reported that filming was banned from occurring at theAbbey Road location over concerns regarding closing the road.[ 17] [ 14]

At anindustry convention CinemaCon inLas Vegas , in March 2025,Sony Pictures announced that all films in the series will be released simultaneously in April 2028, with director Sam Mendes declaring it to be "the firstbinge-able theatrical experience."[ 18] [ 19]
