TheChinese elmcultivarUlmus parvifolia 'Chessins' is a compact lacebark elm used in landscaping.[1][2]Krüssmann (1976) states that it was raised in Japan.[3]
'Chessins' has been described as "a true miniature" with "spreading, sometimes pendulous branches and tiny dark glossy leaves".[4] Krüssmann describes it as "shrubby" and states that, like'Frosty', introduced from Japan at around the same time, it has white-variegated leaves.[3][5]
The species and its cultivars are highly resistant, but not immune, toDutch elm disease, and unaffected by the elm leaf beetleXanthogaleruca luteola.[6]
