Ulmus parvifolia 'BSNUPF' (selling nameEverclear) is aChinese Elmcultivar, cloned from a chance seedling at Bold Spring Nursery,Bold Spring, Georgia. Patented in 2007,[1] it was raised by John Barbour of Athena Trees,Monroe,Georgia.[2]
Everclear is distinguished by its fastigiate form, growing 10 metres (33 ft) tall by only 2 m (6.6 ft) wide, with leaves larger and darker than the type[2].
The species and its cultivars are highly resistant, but not immune, toDutch elm disease, and completely unaffected by the Elm Leaf BeetleXanthogaleruca luteola.[3] Damage caused by theJapanese Beetle is relatively slight.[4]
Everclear is reputedly fast growing on well-drained soil. The tree has been selected for inclusion in theNational Elm Trial coordinated byColorado State University. An avenue of some twentyEverclear elms stands before Matthews Hall,Purdue University (lining North University Street),West Lafayette, Indiana.[5][6] The cultivar was introduced to theUK by Golden Hill Plants, Morden, Kent, in 2010, but discontinued owing to poor sales.
