The American ElmcultivarUlmus americana 'L'Assomption' was selected from seedlings grown from X-irradiated seed at the eponymous experimental station inQuebec before 1965.[1][2]
'L'Assomption' is a very slow-growing tree.
The tree is highly resistant toDutch elm disease.[1] No other specific information is available, but the species as a whole is highly susceptible toElm Yellows; it is also moderately preferred for feeding and reproduction by the adult Elm Leaf BeetleXanthogaleruca luteola,[3] and highly preferred for feeding by the Japanese BeetlePopillia japonica[4][5] in the United States.U. americana is also the most susceptible of all the elms toverticillium wilt.[6][5]
The tree is not known to be in cultivation beyond Canada.
