

TheUganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWEC), popularly known asEntebbe Zoo, is a conservationeducation center foranimals found inUganda.[1][2][3]
This area opened its doors in 1952 as a reception center forwild animals that were found ascasualties, either injured,orphaned, sick, orconfiscated from theillegal trade.[1]
In the 1960s it changed its role into azoo andnon indigenousspecies likebears andtigers were introduced and kept as an attraction.[4][5]


In 1994, wildlife management was restructured and the zoo turned intoUgandaWildlife Education Center trust. The aim was to develop the zoo with an emphasis on conservation education.[1][6]
The center includes free ranging and caged animals, birds, and severalspecies oftrees andshrubs.[7]

Animals in the park include the rockpython,cheetah,leopard,lion,tortoise,giraffe,chimpanzee,baby elephant andrhino.Birds includeostriches,shoebill stork.[1][8][9]

The center functions as a conservationeducation center,rehabilitation center andrecreation center where people come to see a variety ofwild animals. The center contributes toscientific research and is committed to developingeducation programmes for the general public with emphasis on instilling a conservationethic.[1][10][7]
The center is located on plot 56/57 Lugard Avenue,Entebbe town,Wakiso District on the shores ofLake Victoria.[2]
