Udhaya is an Indian actor who has acted inTamil language films. He is the son of noted producerA. L. Azhagappan and the brother of directorA. L. Vijay.[1]
Udhaya got married in August 2007 to Keerthika.[2]
Udhaya began his acting career in 1998 under his original name of Senthilkumar, by appearing inIni Ellam Sugame (1998) produced by his father.[3] Udhaya then starred inBharathi Kannan'sThirunelveli playing a lead role alongsidePrabhu andKaran and being paired oppositeVindhya. The film won poor reviews, with Udhaya's performance being described as "average".[4] He was next seen oppositeVijayalakshmi inKalakalappu, which also featuredNapoleon andJaya Seal, with a critic noting that "he plays his role well, but has to improve his voice modulation."[5] He also thereafter appeared inShakkalaka Baby, while another film titledPoonguyile, featuring him alongsideVindhya andLivingston, was shelved after several schedules.[6][7][8]
In 2001, his fatherA. L. Azhagappan attempted to launch Udhaya as the main lead in a film titledEnnil Kalanthavalae, but the project did not develop.[9] In 2004, the actor announced a project titledAsamy, and held a grand launch event, but the film failed to progress.[10] During this period, he was also working on two projects which remain unreleased - thePrakash Raj-starrerKaadhal Jaathi andVinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, with the latter being used as the title for an unrelated project in 2010 byGautham Vasudev Menon.[11]Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was later released asUnnai Kann Theduthe in 2009, while in 2011, the actor hit out atKaadhal Jaathi's directorKasthuri Raja, claiming that the director himself was blocking the release of the film.[12][13]
Udhaya's 2011 ventureRaa Raa won positive reviews, but went unnoticed at the box office, while his other releasePoova Thalaiya, alongsideSherin also met with an average response. He later played a supporting role in his brother'sThalaivaa (2013), before working on the low-budget horror filmAavi Kumar.
