USSVermont (SSN-792) is aVirginia-classnuclear poweredattack submarine in theUnited States Navy. She is the 19th boat of the class and thethird vessel of the Navy to be named for theU.S. state ofVermont. ThenSecretary of the Navy,Ray Mabus, announced her name on 18 September 2014.[9]
Vermont was part of a construction contract, worthUS$17.6 billion, awarded toGeneral Dynamics Electric Boat to build tenVirginia-class submarines, the first of the Block IV type.[5]
On 20 October 2018,Vermont waschristened with a bottle of Vermont sparkling apple wine during a ceremony held at the Electric Boat facility inGroton, Connecticut.[10][3] She was delivered to the Navy on 17 April 2020, andcommissioned on 18 April 2020.[11]
On July 27, 2023, Vermont arrived in her new home port of Pearl Harbor, HI. The submarine is assigned underSubmarine Squadron ONE.[12]
In December 2020,Vermont sailed toBrazil to attend the launch ofBrazilian Navy submarineHumaitá and perform an exercise with submarineTupi[13]
