UP Warriorz are an Indian professional franchisewomen's cricket team that compete in theWomen's Premier League (WPL), based inLucknow,Uttar Pradesh. The team is owned by Capri Global. The team is coached byAbhishek Nayar and captained byAlyssa Healy. The side reached the eliminator at theinaugural edition of the WPL, but lost toMumbai Indians.[1]
This side had been led byDeepti Sharma after CaptainAlyssa Healy opted out due to injury for theWPL 2025.
In October 2022, theBCCI announced its intentions to hold a five-team women's franchise cricket tournament in March 2023.[2] The tournament was named theWomen's Premier League in January 2023, with investors buying the rights to franchises through a closed bidding process during the same month.[3] Capri Global bought the rights to one of the franchises, to be based inLucknow,Uttar Pradesh.[3]
In February 2023,Jon Lewis was announced as head coach of the side.[4] The inaugural player auction for the WPL was held on 13 February 2023, with UP Warriorz signing 16 players for their squad.[5] The side went on to finish third in the group stage of theinaugural edition of the WPL, qualifying for the eliminator.[6] However, they lost toMumbai Indians by 72 runs in the eliminator.[1]
