UFC on ESPN: dos Anjos vs. Edwards (also known asUFC on ESPN 4) was amixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship that took place on July 20, 2019 at theAT&T Center inSan Antonio,Texas.[2]
The event marked the promotion's second visit to San Antonio and first sinceUFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens in June 2014.[2]
A welterweight bout between formerUFC Lightweight ChampionRafael dos Anjos andLeon Edwards was the event headliner.[3]
Alexey Oleynik was expected to faceWalt Harris on May 4, 2019 atUFC Fight Night: Iaquinta vs. Cowboy.[4] However, Oleinik was pulled from the pairing with Harris on April 3 and instead facedAlistair Overeem atUFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Oleinik after formerBellator Heavyweight ChampionAlexander Volkov had to withdraw.[5] The pairing was rescheduled for this event.[6]
A lightweight bout betweenAlexander Hernandez andFrancisco Trinaldo has also been rescheduled for the event.[7] The pairing was first expected to take place on January 26, 2019 atUFC 233.[8] However, Hernandez was pulled from that fight in favor of a bout with former lightweight title challengerDonald Cerrone a week earlier atUFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw.[9]
A women's flyweight bout between formerUFC Women's Bantamweight Championship challengerLiz Carmouche and formerUFC Women's Flyweight Championship challengerRoxanne Modafferi was scheduled for the event. However, Carmouche was pulled from that bout in favor of a rematch with current championValentina Shevchenko in August atUFC Fight Night: Shevchenko vs. Carmouche.[10] Modafferi is now expected to face formerInvicta FC Flyweight ChampionJennifer Maia in a rematch of their 2016 bout, which Maia won via split decision to defend the title.[11] At the weigh-ins, Maia weighed in at 129 pounds, 3 pounds over the women's flyweight non-title fight limit of 126. As a result Maia was fined 30 percent of her purse, and the bout proceeded as scheduled at a catchweight.[12]
