This event featured aUFC Bantamweight Championship bout between championDominick Cruz and #1 contenderDemetrious Johnson, which was the first UFC title fight to be aired live at a free televised UFC event sinceUFC 75 in September 2007.
Fabio Maldonado was expected to faceAaron Rosa in a Light Heavyweight bout, but was pulled from the card due to an injury. A replacement was being sought but this fight was scrapped.[3]
Jeff Hougland was expected to faceMike Easton in a Bantamweight bout, but has been injured and replaced by UFC newcomer Byron Bloodworth.[4] Bloodworth failed to make the 135 pound weight limit, thus the match was changed to a Catchweight bout, with Bloodworth being fined for the infraction.[5]
WithFox taking over UFC broadcasting rights in 2012, this was the last UFC andZuffa event to be aired onVersus.
