UFC Fight Night: Thomas vs. Florian[2] (also known asUFC Fight Night 11) was amixed martial arts (MMA) event held by theUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at thePalms Casino Resort inLas Vegas, Nevada. It was broadcast live in theUnited States andCanada onSpike TV as a lead-in to the debut ofThe Ultimate Fighter 6.[3]
The main event was originally expected to be a rematch betweenThe Ultimate Fighter 1 contestantsChris Leben andMike Swick. Leben, however, chose to decline the fight offer (Leben later claimed that his managers turned down the fight without his knowledge on an Ultimate Fighter 1 reunion episode). Swick was to be featured on the main card in a match against Canadian fighterJonathan Goulet, who confirmed the bout on July 18 toThe Fight Network.[4] Reports indicate that veteranUFC fighterChris Lytle was also considered for the bout.[5] However, Swick pulled out of the bout on September 2, 2007 due to a rib injury. Goulet facedDustin Hazelett instead.[6]
The card was rescheduled to feature alightweight main event bout betweenDin Thomas andSpencer Fisher. However, on August 7, Fisher announced via hisMySpace page that he was withdrawing from the event due to astaph infection in his knee.[7] Former title challengerKenny Florian replaced Fisher in the main event.
Chris Leben remained on the fight card; he appeared in amiddleweight match withTerry Martin.Nate Quarry, the first cast member ofThe Ultimate Fighter reality series to challenge for aUFC championship, also returned to theUFC after nearly a two-year layoff following his match againstRich Franklin atUFC 56.
